The Government’s Kill Switch for Your Car, Your Freedoms and Your Life

This article was originally published by John W. Whitehead and Nisha Whitehead at the Rutherford Institute.

“A psychotic world we live in. The madmen are in power.”—Philip K. Dick, The Man in the High Castle

If we haven’t learned by now, we should beware of anything the government insists is for our own good.

Take the Biden Administration’s Infrastructure Investment and Jobs Act.

Given the deteriorating state of the nation’s infrastructure (aging highways and bridges, outdated railways and airports, etc.), which have been neglected for years in order to fund America’s endless wars abroad, it would seem like an obvious and long overdue fix.

Yet there’s a catch.

There’s always a catch.

Tucked into the whopping $1 trillion bipartisan spending bill is a provision requiring automakers to prescribe a “federal motor vehicle safety standard for advanced drunk and impaired driving prevention technology, and for other purposes.”

As Jason Torchinksky writes for Jalopnik:

It’s pretty clear that the goals of this section of the law are to reduce drunk driving fatalities and crashes via still-undetermined technological tools that somehow are able to “passively monitor the performance of a driver of a motor vehicle to accurately identify whether that driver may be impaired,” and/or “passively and accurately detect whether the blood alcohol concentration of a driver of a motor vehicle is equal to or greater than the blood alcohol concentration described in section 163(a) of title 23, United States Code,” and if either or both of these conditions are proven to be positive — if the car thinks you’re drunk, then it may “prevent or limit motor vehicle operation.

As expected, the details are disconcertingly vague, which leaves the government with a wide berth to sow the seeds of mischief and mayhem. For instance, nowhere does the legislation indicate how such a so-called “kill switch” would work, what constitutes a driver who is “impaired,” and what “other purposes” might warrant the government using such a backdoor kill switch.

As former Rep. Bob Barr explains:

Everything about this mandatory measure should set off red flares. First, use of the word “passively” suggests the system will always be on and constantly monitoring the vehicle. Secondly, the system must connect to the vehicle’s operational controls, so as to disable the vehicle either before driving or during, when impairment is detected. Thirdly, it will be an “open” system, or at least one with a backdoor, meaning authorized (or unauthorized) third-parties can remotely access the system’s data at any time.

This is a privacy disaster in the making, and the fact that the provision made it through the Congress reveals — yet again — how little its members care about the privacy of their constituents… The lack of ultimate control over one’s vehicle presents numerous and extremely serious safety issues… If that is not reason enough for concern, there are serious legal issues with this mandate. Other vehicle-related enforcement methods used by the Nanny State, such as traffic cameras and license plate readers, have long presented constitutional problems; notably with the 5th Amendment’s right to not self-incriminate, and the 6th Amendment’s right to face one’s accuser.

Once again, the burden of proof is reversed, and “we the people” find ourselves no longer presumed innocent until proven guilty but suspects in a suspect society.

These “vehicle kill switches” may be sold to the public as a safety measure aimed at keeping drunk drivers off the roads, but they will quickly become a convenient tool in the hands of government agents to put the government in the driver’s seat while rendering null and void the Constitution’s requirements of privacy and its prohibitions against unreasonable searches and seizures.

Indeed, when you think about it, these vehicle kill switches are a perfect metaphor for the government’s efforts to not only take control of our cars but also our freedoms and our lives.

For too long, we have been captive passengers in a driverless car controlled by the government, losing more and more of our privacy and autonomy the further down the road we go.

Just think of all the ways in which the government has been empowered to dictate what we say, do and think; where we go; with whom we associate; how we raise our families; how we live our lives; what we consume; how we spend our money; how we protect ourselves and our loved ones; and to what extent our rights as individuals can be displaced for the sake of the so-called greater good.

In this way, we have arrived, way ahead of schedule, into the dystopian future dreamed up by such science fiction writers as George Orwell, Aldous Huxley, Margaret Atwood, and Philip K. Dick.

In keeping with Dick’s darkly prophetic vision of a dystopian police state—which became the basis for Steven Spielberg’s futuristic thriller Minority Report, which was released 20 years ago—we have been imprisoned in a world in which the government is all-seeing, all-knowing, and all-powerful, and if you dare to step out of line, dark-clad police SWAT teams and pre-crime units will crack a few skulls to bring the populace under control.

Minority Report is set in the year 2054, but it could just as well have taken place in 2022.

Incredibly, as the various nascent technologies employed and shared by the government and corporations alike—facial recognition, iris scanners, massive databases, behavior prediction software, and so on—are incorporated into a complex, interwoven cyber network aimed at tracking our movements, predicting our thoughts and controlling our behavior, Spielberg’s unnerving vision of the future is fast becoming our reality.

Both worlds—our present-day reality and Minority Report’s celluloid vision of the future—are characterized by widespread surveillance, behavior prediction technologies, data mining, fusion centers, driverless cars, voice-controlled homes, facial recognition systems, cybugs and drones, and predictive policing (pre-crime) aimed at capturing would-be criminals before they can do any damage.

Surveillance cameras are everywhere. Government agents listen in on our telephone calls and read our emails. Political correctness—a philosophy that discourages diversity—has become a guiding principle of modern society.

The courts have shredded the Fourth Amendment’s protections against unreasonable searches and seizures. In fact, SWAT teams battering down doors without search warrants and FBI agents acting as secret police that investigate dissenting citizens are common occurrences in contemporary America.

We are increasingly ruled by multi-corporations wedded to the police state. Much of the population is either hooked on illegal drugs or ones prescribed by doctors. And bodily privacy and integrity has been utterly eviscerated by a prevailing view that Americans have no rights over what happens to their bodies during an encounter with government officials, who are allowed to search, seize, strip, scan, spy on, probe, pat down, taser, and arrest any individual at any time and for the slightest provocation.

We’re on the losing end of a technological revolution that has already taken hostage our computers, our phones, our finances, our entertainment, our shopping, our appliances, and now, our cars. As if the government wasn’t already able to track our movements on the nation’s highways and byways by way of satellites, GPS devices, and real-time traffic cameras, performance data recorders, black box recorders, and vehicle-to-vehicle (V2V) communications will monitor our vehicle’s speed, direction, location, gear selection, brake force, the number of miles traveled and seatbelts use and transmit this data to other drivers, including the police.

In this Brave New World, there is no communication not spied upon, no movement untracked, no thought unheard. In other words, there is nowhere to run and nowhere to hide.

Herded along by drones, smartphones, GPS devices, smart TVs, social media, smart meters, surveillance cameras, facial recognition software, online banking, license plate readers, and driverless cars, we are quickly approaching a point of singularity with the interconnected technological metaverse that is life in the American police state.

Every new piece of technologically-enabled gadget we acquire and technologically-booby-trapped legislation that Congress enacts pulls us that much deeper into the sticky snare.

These vehicle kill switches are yet another Trojan Horse: sold to us as safety measures for the sake of the greater good, all the while poised to wreak havoc on what little shreds of autonomy we have left.

As I make clear in my book Battlefield America: The War on the American People and in its fictional counterpart The Erik Blair Diaries, we’re hurtling down a one-way road at mind-boggling speeds to a destination not of our choosing, the terrain is getting more treacherous by the minute, and we’ve passed all the exit ramps.

From this point forward, there is no turning back, and the signpost ahead reads “Danger.”

Time to buckle up your seatbelts, folks. We’re in for a bumpy ride.

How an Avalanche Airbag Could Save Your Life | Top 5 Best Airbags for 2022

Extreme sports like skiing and winter climbing often come with risks like avalanches that can cost you more than a few broken bones. However, wearing a backpack with an incorporated avalanche airbag has been proven to be effective in saving lives by preventing burial.

From the more modern battery-powered systems to the classic canister designs, here are some of the best avalanche airbags on the market and what you need to know about them.

What Is an Avalanche Airbag?

Ski amazing view swiss famous mountains | Avalanche airbag

An avalanche airbag is a powerful, life-saving piece of equipment that will help ensure that you do not get buried in case of an avalanche.

In an avalanche, smaller objects sink to the bottom while larger objects tend to rise to the surface. With that said, avalanche airbags are often incorporated into backpacks. In case of an emergency, the wearer pulls a cord that inflates the airbag into a large balloon.

This makes the person wearing it larger, which, in turn, allows him or her to naturally rise to the snow’s surface. The airbag prevents the wearer from getting buried in snow and suffocating from it. This is key in surviving avalanches.

In fact, experts believe that skiers and mountain climbers who are wearing an avalanche airbag have an 89 percent chance of surviving the disaster. This is 50 percent more than those who are not equipped with it.

Of course, it is also important that the wearer actually sets the system up correctly, knows exactly how to use it, and pulls the trigger when needed. Practice is essential when it comes to operating this piece of emergency equipment so that pulling the trigger becomes second nature in case of an emergency.

Before you start practicing, however, keep in mind that most airbags’ balloons can only be deployed once before their gas cylinder requires replacing. On the other hand, newer models equipped with battery-powered electric blowers, while slightly more expensive, can make realistic practice easier.

You also have to familiarize yourself with the airbag’s inflation process to avoid mechanical failures when it is time to actually use it. Before hitting the slopes, make sure that your airbag system has been tested for any problems that may arise.

Avalanche Airbags

Make sure to consider these factors before choosing which of the avalanche airbags listed below are perfect for you.

1. Black Diamond JetForce Pro Pack 25L

Of all the avalanche airbags on this list, the Black Diamond JetForce Pro Pack 25L is one of the most well-rounded. Over the years, the brand’s JetForce series has gone through numerous iterations, but the Pro is the best one yet.

It has a lightweight battery-powered fan and modular design that raises the standards when it comes to the weight of electric designs. It also offers multiple deployments with just one charge.

This avalanche airbag is equipped with Bluetooth connectivity, allowing you to quickly update it and personalize its settings.

The backpack itself is also well-designed. It has a secure fit that gives the wearer easy access to his or her gear and is equipped with other valuable features like a hipbelt stash pocket, a helmet holder, and a diagonal ski carry.

The Black Diamond JetForce Pro also has a modular design. This essentially means that you can swap out your Boosters that come in 10, 25, and 35L sizes. This new feature gives the user maximum versatility for all kinds of snow missions.

2. Ortovox Ascent 22 Avabag Kit

The Ortovox Ascent 22 Avabag Kit is one of the best canister-powered airbag packs out there. While electric fan airbags seem to be the future, a lot of people still prefer classic and reliable canister-powered designs. This is where Ortovox’s Ascent Avabag comes into play.

The brand is known for being a leader in capacity, features, and performance. What makes it truly stand out is that it can be used for practice deployment without having to churn through multiple canisters.

It also has a 5.5-pound weight, which is competitive for canister-powered airbags. Its proprietary airbag is also removable and compatible with all the other packs on their lineup.

3. Backcountry Access Float 32 Avalanche Airbag 2.0

Most avalanche airbags clock in at over $900, but if you are on a budget, then the Backcountry Access Float 32 Avalanche Airbag 2.0 is perfect for you. This canister-powered Avabag is one of the most time-tested Avabags out there.

Both affordable and reliable, the Backcountry Access Float 2.0 has a simple mechanical system and a well-designed build that features straps for ski and snowboard carry, hipbelt pockets, hydration compatibility, a dedicated avy tool pocket, and a plush molded back panel. For more adjustability, features, and support, you can always bump up to its 42-liter version.

With the Backcountry Access avalanche airbag, however, what you get more than any other company’s airbags is convenience. BCA’s canisters are easy to use because they have over 300 authorized refill locations scattered around the world.

4. Black Diamond Pilot 11 JetForce Avalanche Airbag Pack

Being one of the users’ favorites for its “rideability” or how well the pack moved with the wearer on the down, the Black Diamond Pilot 11 JetForce Avalanche Airbag Pack is the brand’s heli and cat-oriented avalanche airbag pack.

The pack is large enough to carry food, gear, a layer, and an additional pair of gloves. Because it has a battery-powered fan that inflates its airbag, refilling it while traveling is also hassle-free.

Black Diamond’s Pilot 11 JetForce Avalanche Airbag is great for skiing and boarding. It has a small size that makes moving and riding with it easier for the wearer. For touring, however, its uses may be limited, so keep that in mind before purchasing this bag.

5. Mammut Avalanche Airbag Backpack Ultralight 3.0

At a weight of only 3 pounds, the Mammut Avalanche Airbag Backpack Ultralight 3.0 is one of the most lightweight avalanche airbags on the market. The backpack is designed specifically for the “light is right” crowd, as it weighs around 2 and a half pounds lighter than most avalanche airbags.

It has a removable, canister-powered airbag that gives you the option to save some serious weight. This makes it perfect for low-angle meadow skipping or for wearing around the resort.

The Mammut Avalanche Airbag Backpack also has a minimalist design. Despite this, it still has features like its diagonal ski carry straps, hydration-compatible sleeves, and ice axe loops.

Skyrocketing Fertilizer Prices Could Spark Widespread Global Famines Unlike Anything We Have Seen In Modern History

I am going to try to make as much noise about this crisis as I can, because we have never faced anything like this in modern times.  Global fertilizer prices have tripled, and we are being warned that this is going to have a catastrophic impact on food production all over the world.  On Monday, an article that I wrote about this went viral all over the Internet.  On Zero Hedge alone, my article has been viewed more than a quarter of a million times.  The reason why the article is so popular is because the corporate media in the United States is largely ignoring this story.  But it should be front page news all over the country, because this is going to affect every man, woman and child on the entire planet.

Some experts did warn us about this in advance.  For example, a European CEO told the media the following all the way back in November

“I want to say this loud and clear right now, that we risk a very low crop in the next harvest,” said Svein Tore Holsether, the CEO and president of the Oslo-based company. “I’m afraid we’re going to have a food crisis.”

Holsether says that a food crisis is coming because the cost to produce a ton of ammonia has gotten nearly ten times higher

In Europe, the natural-gas benchmark hit an all-time high in September, with the price more than tripling from June to October alone. Yara is a major producer of ammonia, a key ingredient in synthetic fertilizer, which increases crop yields. The process of creating ammonia currently relies on hydropower or natural gas.

“To produce a ton of ammonia last summer was $110,” said Holsether. “And now it’s $1,000. So it’s just incredible.”

In order to fix this, we need to solve the global energy crisis.

Unfortunately, as I have been repeatedly warning my readers, the global energy crisis is only going to get worse.

So we have a really, really big mess on our hands.

In Africa, many farmers are not going to be able to afford fertilizer at all this year, and it is being projected that this will reduce production by enough “to feed 100 million people”

With prices tripling over the past 18 months, many farmers are considering whether to forgo purchases of fertilizers this year. That leaves a market long touted for its growth potential set to shrink by almost a third, according to Sebastian Nduva, program manager at researcher group AfricaFertilizer.Org.

That could potentially curb cereals output by 30 million tons, enough to feed 100 million people, he said.

To make sure that their people won’t starve, African governments will need to import massive amounts of food from elsewhere

“We are likely to see a scenario where yields are depressed and this will mean that either the government will have to readjust their budgets and import food or there will be food shortages,” Nduva said.

But agricultural production is going to be way down all over the globe.

So almost everyone is going to be looking to import food, and there won’t be a lot of exporters.

Many of you may not realize this, but the food crisis has already become quite severe in some parts of Africa

Food scarcity is already reaching desperate levels in many regions. On Wednesday, Frédérica Andriamanantena, the World Food Program’s Madagascar program manager, appeared on a COP26 panel to describe the severity of the country’s drought and resulting famine. Andriamanantena, who is from Madagascar, said drought had this year reduced the harvest to one-third of the average of the past five years. Where families had once had comfortable meals, children are now subsisting on foraged plants and cactus leaves.

How would you feel if your own children were eating plants and leaves just to survive?

Of course this is just the beginning.  As I have warned for a very long time, we will soon get to a point where there is not nearly enough food for everybody.

What are we going to do then?

And if Russia and Ukraine go to war, that will take this crisis to a completely different level very rapidly

A major casualty could be even higher food prices. Ukraine and Russia together are heavyweights in global wheat, corn and sunflower oil trade, leaving buyers from Asia to Africa and the Middle East vulnerable to more expensive bread and meat if supplies are disrupted. That would add to food-commodity costs that are already the highest in a decade.

Markets may be remembering what happened in 2014, when Russia annexed Crimea and wheat prices jumped even though shipments weren’t substantially affected. Russia and Ukraine’s share of world exports has increased since, with nations like Egypt and Turkey reliant on the Black Sea breadbasket.

But even without war, global food prices just keep going higher and higher and higher.

In fact, global grain prices have risen approximately 70 percent just since the middle of 2020

Food inflation in the OECD hit 5.5% in November, the highest reading since 2009, data published by the Paris-based organization show.

Grain prices have jumped roughly 70% since mid-2020 as bad weather curbed harvests, China scooped up supplies and a fertilizer crunch added to farmers’ costs.

Sadly, most people don’t even realize that this is happening, because the mainstream media is not really talking about it.

Eventually, however, everyone will be talking about this crisis because it is going to be a really, really big deal.

There is no way out, and global food supplies are going to get tighter and tighter.

I would act on this information while you still can.  Unfortunately, the vast majority of the population is going to be absolutely blindsided by what is coming.

Putin And Biden Are Playing A Very Dangerous Game Of Chicken. So What Happens If Neither One Backs Down?

The United States and Russia are on a collision course.  Unfortunately, the guys running the show in both countries are not exactly sane, and they deeply, deeply distrust one another.  So what happens when a bunch of lunatics decide to play a game of chicken with the fate of the entire world at stake?  Unfortunately, it appears that we are about to find out.

When Donald Trump was still in the White House, both the United States and Russia pretty much respected the status quo.  But once Joe Biden took power, things changed dramatically.  Over the past year, the Biden administration has provoked the Russians over and over again, and it became clear that there would be a major effort to add Ukraine to NATO.

The Biden administration assumed that they could push the Russians around without any consequences.

But instead, the Russians sent more than 100,000 troops to the border with Ukraine.  It is the largest Russian military mobilization since World War II, and it is clearly meant as a threat.

The Russians are most definitely threatening to invade Ukraine, and they are assuming that this will motivate the Biden administration and other western leaders to negotiate.

But Biden and other western leaders are not blinking.  They are absolutely determined not to give the Russians anything that they want, even if the requests are reasonable.

What this means is that Biden and other western leaders have decided to call Vladimir Putin’s bluff.

Okay, so what happens if Putin is not bluffing?

On Monday, we witnessed a very angry exchange between the U.S. and Russia during a UN Security Council meeting

Russia accused the West on Monday of “whipping up tensions” over Ukraine and said the U.S. had brought “pure Nazis” to power in Kyiv as the U.N. Security Council held a stormy and bellicose debate on Moscow’s troop buildup near its southern neighbor.

U.S. Ambassador Linda Thomas-Greenfield shot back that Russia’s growing military force of more than 100,000 troops along Ukraine’s borders was “the largest mobilization” in Europe in decades, adding that there has been a spike in cyberattacks and Russian disinformation.

And then on Tuesday, Putin publicly warned that Russian security concerns are being completely ignored

‘We are carefully analyzing the written responses received from the United States and NATO,’ Putin said Tuesday during a press conference with Hungary Prime Minister Viktor Orban.

‘But it is already clear that fundamental Russian concerns ended up being ignored,’ he lamented. ‘We did not see adequate consideration of our three key demands regarding the prevention of NATO expansion, the refusal to deploy strike facilities near Russia’s borders, and the return of the bloc’s military infrastructure in Europe to the state in 1997.’

This crisis could be over tomorrow if Biden and other western leaders agreed not to put western missiles in Ukraine and to not admit Ukraine as a member of NATO.

Just like we didn’t want Russian missiles in Cuba in the 1960s, the Russians don’t want NATO missiles in Ukraine now.

Unfortunately, Biden’s foreign policy team has decided that it simply cannot give Russia anything that it wants, and so there will be no deal.

And White House Press Secretary Jen Psaki just compared Putin to a “fox” on top of a henhouse

White House Press Secretary Jen Psaki slammed Russia for trying to turn the rhetoric around and express they’re worried about a threat coming from Ukraine – especially if it were to join NATO.

‘When the fox is screaming from the top of the henhouse that he’s scared of the chickens, which is essentially what they’re doing, that fear isn’t recorded as a statement of fact,’ Psaki said during her daily briefing Tuesday.

The Biden administration is not taking the Russians seriously.

But they should.

We are now closer to war with Russia than we have been since the Cuban missile crisis of the 1960s, and at this point even a small error could cause a horrifying global conflict to erupt.

With each passing day, even more Russian forces move into the border zone.  For example, we just learned that two more battalions of Spetsnaz soldiers “are being moved to the Belarus-Ukraine border”

Two battalions of crack Russian Spetsnaz soldiers are being moved to the Belarus-Ukraine border, stoking fears of an imminent invasion on the orders of President Vladimir Putin.

Those commandos will be joining 5,000 Spetsnaz troops that are already there

They will join another another 5,000 Spetsnaz commandos already in position, according to Western military experts, who warn they could form the spearhead of a much larger force estimated at around 80,000 soldiers, including Russian and Belarus regulars.

Unlike the “woke” special forces in the United States, Spetsnaz forces are incredibly good at what they do.

Not too many that have gotten into a firefight with them have lived to tell about it.

We have also learned that Russia and Belarus will be conducting “major war games” in the border region in the middle of this month…

Major war games will then be conducted from February 10 and will see Russian and Belarusian units engage in a 10-day simulation of the ‘interception and suppression of foreign military aggression and counter-terrorism operations’ in what Shoygu dubbed ‘The Allied Resolve of 2022’.

Shoygu did not specify how many troops would take part in the war games, but Thomas-Greenfield said the U.S. believes Russia will post up to 30,000 troops in Belarus by early February.

It appears that the Biden administration is dead set against any sort of a deal with the Russians, and so now Putin has a decision to make.

Will he be the sane one and back down?

Meanwhile, we are being told that Iran is just “weeks” away from having enough fissile material for a nuclear bomb…

In the long list of foreign crises between which President Biden and his administration are bouncing, Iran has not gotten as much play in recent weeks in light of the deteriorating situation in Europe between Russian forces and the people of Ukraine. But according to a senior State Department official, Iran is continuing to move along with its nuclear ambitions and is now “weeks, not months” away from having enough fissile material for a nuclear bomb.

One way or another, a war between Israel and Iran is going to begin.

And once that war erupts, the Middle East will never be the same again.

We are right on the precipice of so many military conflicts that we have been warned about for years.

If global leaders were sane, they would be working as hard as they can to try to prevent World War III from happening.

Unfortunately, sanity is in very short supply among global leaders these days, and every man, woman and child on the entire planet will suffer as a result.

Metal bars for windows are another layer of security for your home. And they’re a great visual deterrent for those who wish to gain unlawful entry.

burglur's gloved hand through a broken window

Why Do You Need Window Security Bars

Unless you live full-time in an underground bunker, you’ve been paying attention to world events.

Countries are in chaos with food shortages, natural disasters, and protests all around.

Extremist groups are smashing and grabbing everything they can get their hands on without recourse. And it’s not going to get better any time soon.

When people are desperate, they do desperate things, and you don’t want to be a victim of a house break-in.

Security bars have one job; to prevent access through your windows.

While this is their purpose, their function covers many situations.

1. Burglary

If someone is coming to your home to steal, they need to gain entry fast.

Windows are typically a weak point, so it’s essential to upgrade your security set up with window bars.

2. Protect Your Business

If you have a business location that’s not at your property, it is vulnerable to break-ins.

During the day, you and your staff are around. But when everyone leaves, gaining access is pretty easy through windows.

You can remedy this by installing burglar bars on windows and doors. This will keep your business protected overnight.

3. Keep Pets Safe

You may need to keep the windows open in hot weather, which could be an escape path for pets.

You don’t want your cat or dog slipping out when you aren’t around.

Keep them safe and secure with window bars.

4. Children

An open window is a dangerous falling hazard for young kids, and you don’t want to be part of the statistic.

When security bars on open windows, kids can see outside and get fresh air without the risk of falling out.

5. Off-Grid Cabin/Bug Out Location

If you’re a survivalist, you probably have a remote bug-out location. A place where you can head to when a major world crisis occurs.

This is a place that you have stockpiled food supplies, weapons, and your survival gear.

Having it secure means staying alive, so you have to install window security bars.

Then when you get to the cabin, everything is ready for you because nobody can access it.

Great Window Security Bar Safety Features

First off, having window bars is a safety feature in itself, but there are extra deterrents you can use.

You should use unique tamper-resistant screws for exterior window bars. Once you drive them in, no one is getting them out without the right tool.

They can either have a slip side when trying to back them off or a head that requires a special tool to fit in and turn them.

Most intruders will not have this tool, so they will give up quickly when they see this.

Some models have quick release functions if you need to get out through the window.

This is important for a family. Why? Because becoming trapped inside your home during an invasion or fire, could be deadly.

You can have bars that include an interior bar that spins in place so they can’t be sawed off.

This is a clever safety feature because it will deter a burglar even if they have cutting tools.

Spear edges are also popular. Because if someone tries to reach in to open a latch, or attempt to squeeze in around the side, they’ll get snagged and cut up.

Where To Install Window Bars

The real question is, where shouldn’t I?

Every window in your home, business, and cabin is susceptible to break-ins.

If money allows, you should get them all done. If you’re concerned about the cost or don’t want your place to look like a prison, start with the most vulnerable ones first.

Basement Windows

They are easy to reach, and an intruder can lay on the ground to access them without much hassle.

Blocked Windows

Any windows or glass doors behind trees and bushes give a burglar time to break in while camouflaged.

Backyard Windows

Once an intruder is in the backyard, they can move around unnoticed.

These back windows are off the street. And usually, there are more windows and sliding glass doors outback.

Child Assessable Windows

If you have lower windows in your home where kids can get to, guard them.

Tragically, too many children have fallen to their deaths through open windows.

Business Glass

Any business entrance that’s made of glass can be smashed without much hassle.

So install bars OR window security film on all glass windows and doors for overnight security.

10 Barter Items That Will Significantly Increase In Value After A Collapse

Cheap Items For Bartering In A CollapseToday, I want to share my 10 favorite barter items to stockpile before a collapse.

Now, I want to make one thing clear out of the gate. None of the items listed today will be Gold, Silver, or any other form of rare metals.

Everyone already understands the value of rare coins in a collapse.

If you can afford those, I suggest you get your hands on some right away. They help diversify your financial portfolios and provide some much-needed inflation protection.

Instead, today, I want to share the 10 barter items ANYONE can grab off the shelf.

Stuff that will be gone in a flash once everyone realizes a collapse is inevitable and will be in high demand.

Owning lots of these barter items means you’ll have leverage to trade your extra’s for other supplies. That’s called bartering.

The following barter items are things that:

  1. are affordable now, today, before a collapse
  2. will likely go up in value after a collapse
  3. are small enough anyone can store them (even if you rent)
  4.  items that all have reasonable expiration dates or better
  5. are items you can easily barter in small portions

Let’s get started.

Sneak Peek Of The Prepper’s Checklist Below…

These 2 Clickable Checklists Will Help Get You Prepared FAST!

1. Survival Seeds

Get yourself a bunch of heirloom, open-pollinated, non-GMO, and untreated seeds.

You can either buy them already sealed in mylar bags. Or you can buy Mylar bags and do it yourself. Then make sure to keep them stored in a cool, dry, dark location.

I love survival seeds for four reasons:

  1. Don’t take up much space
  2. Have a reasonable shelf life if stored properly and
  3. Don’t cost much (at least in normal times)
  4. If you learn how to seed save – you’ll never run out of seeds ever again

If grocery stores are bare for ANY length of time, seed demand will explode, and prices will follow. Making seeds my all-time favorite barter items to stock up on now.

2. H20 Filters / Purification Tablets / Bleach

If your local water supply becomes suspect or contaminated, you’ll need to treat it.

If EVERYONE who lives around you must treat it as well (or risk getting severely sick) …. well, the math is simple.

Boiling water works to kill bacteria. But boiling ALL your water before consumption will quickly become tedious. And expensive (depending on the fuel used to boil).

So, get some extra water filters and lots of water purification tablets. Heck, grab several gallons of bleach as well since a few drops of it can be used to purify in a pinch.

These barter items are all affordable, have very long shelf lives, and won’t take up much space.

3. Pain Meds

Our society is not very accustomed to dealing with any pain (short-term or chronic). And why would we? We have plenty of magic pills over-the-counter to shut pain signals off.

It’s terrific IF you have them (and don’t abuse them).

But in a collapse, pain meds will be one of the first items to disappear. People will wipe out the stores, and if there’s no more coming anytime soon, what then?

Well, if you thought ahead, you might be able to pull off an excellent trade.

If someone is suffering, they’re going to be willing to trade an awful lot to reduce that pain.

Now, is this ethical? Probably not.

But I’d rather HAVE the extra pills and decide later how best to distribute them, rather than NOT have them at all.

And even if you decide NOT to price gauge, the people you help will be so thankful I’m sure they’ll pay you back. Perhaps in sharing their resources or efforts.

4. Daily Multivitamins

A balanced nutritional diet will be tough to come by in an all-out long-term collapse.

For example, what happens if your body gets carbs (i.e., calories) but no vitamins? Well, you will slowly get weaker and sicker over time.

That’s why having a large stockpile of some multivitamins makes a lot of sense. That way, even if you have to live off only rice and beans for months, a multivitamin will help keep your body healthy.

This one won’t have much value right away. But over time, when folks realize their bodies are breaking down, the importance of vitamins will become clear.

Or perhaps even better, you can learn how to find and process wild lettuce as natural pain relief.

5. Gas Mask Filters

CBRN GAS MASK FILTER NBC-77Two things to note about buying gas mask filters; first, they’re not “extremely” cheap. Gas mask filters do cost some money.

And second, not every collapse scenario will require a gas mask. However, if a collapse does require a gas mask, having extra filters is a lot like stockpiling Gold.

It’s going to become something that there’s NEVER enough. Gas mask filters are consumables. So they run out over time.

And there’s already a minimal supply of them to start because most people have just 2 or 3 at most. But if you happen to have 30 of them, well, you could trade a few away and get a king’s ransom.

Think of it as a higher risk but a much higher reward barter item.

6. Ammo

Another reasonably priced, small consumable with a super long shelf life is ammunition.

You should already have an excellent supply of ammo for your firearms. But even if you don’t own guns, ammo will be something folks who own guns will need. And eventually, ammo supplies will dwindle.

Because a firearm becomes a paperweight unless you have the proper ammunition for it.

I also like that you can buy a TON of it at a reasonable price. And if you store it properly, with ammo cans, it won’t take up lots of space. Plus, it can last decades, perhaps centuries, when stored properly.

It’s another alternative to rare coins for a total collapse barter item.

7. Ferro Rods / Fire Pistons

Lighters have one massive flaw. They’ll eventually run out of fuel. Then, once they’re empty, those devices are worthless (if you can’t get more fuel).

Matches are even worse. Sure, you may have a large box of them, but day after day, they will get consumed – then what?

Yes, starting a fire with sticks IS possible, but;

  1. It’s more complex than it seems
  2. It’s a major calorie burner.

So it’s not a good option for long-term survival scenarios.

Instead, stock up on extra Ferro rods and fire pistons as wise barter items.

These devices are much easier to use than starting a fire with sticks. And they will last much longer than other fire-starting devices.

Heck, with a fire piston, there is no “fuel” necessary. You use physics (pressure to create heat) using just a tiny wad of tinder.

8. Antibiotics, Hydrogen Peroxide, Neosporin

neosporin tubeBefore the invention of antibiotics, even a small scratch or cut could turn deadly. Historically, infections were hard to beat, especially if they enter your bloodstream.

In a worst-case scenario, emergency rooms and doctors may not be available when you need them most.

Unfortunately, there’s no easy way to load up on a bunch of prescription antibiotics. Doctors and pharmacists control the amount each patient can purchase.

So, the next best thing for stockpiling is to get a variety of fish and bird antibiotics.

Do your own research on which varieties to buy. But I’d rather take animal antibiotics to TRY and fight a deadly infection than to be a helpless soul.

And in a worst-case scenario, your neighbors will likely feel the same way.

But if you’re not comfortable buying animal antibiotics, stock up on hydrogen peroxide instead.

This liquid helps keep a fresh wound clean PREVENTing infection instead of treating the infection.

And an infection can kill, hydrogen peroxide will become a prized possession.

The only problem is it has a somewhat short shelf life. For example, most labels claim about three years. So, you’ll want to create a First In First Out rotation.

But with that said, I repurchased extra hydrogen peroxide in 2013. The bottle states it should have expired in 2016. Yet, if I pour some out into my sink, it still bubbles.

So, it has yet to expire after nine years! That’s why I think it’s something you should add to your prepping stockpile.

Oh, and I feel the same way about Neosporin, but I have no way to easily “test” its remaining effectiveness…

But in a major collapse scenario, I’d rather use “expired” Neosporin than apply nothing.

It can’t hurt to try, and it might save a life – I’m sure most folks would feel the same way if push came to shove.

9. Soap

Zote Soap Stack Of 4 BarsIn third world countries, lack of cleanliness and hygiene are MAJOR problems. These poor folks don’t have access to soap and clean water to keep up a basic level of hygiene.

Diseases can run rampant when humans are forced to live in filthy conditions for long stretches.

So, if soap becomes limited and you have extra, you’ll be able to trade it with ease. Making it an excellent barter item to stockpile.

Zote soap is one of the best for stockpiling.

10. Skills and Knowledge

You should learn lots of handy skills over time. I’m talking about primary medicine, carpentry, electrical, gardening, sewing, canning, fire-starting, etc.

If you do, you’ll be in good shape in a crisis.

Why? Because you’ll immediately become a valuable member of any survival coalition. Your skillsets make you someone worth keeping around and sharing resources with.

Honestly, I have a few of the resources mentioned above because it’s a wise way to improve my family’s resiliency if the worst were to come true.

But I don’t go all-in on those. Instead, I’ve invested in my survival and preparedness knowledge over the years.

And I think you should too. And the best way I know how to get started on that is to join my 30-day prepper challenge.

Once you’ve completed this challenge, you’ll be more prepared than most of your friends and neighbors.

And until next time: Prepare, Adapt & Overcome,

Authoritarian Madness: The Slippery Slope from Lockdowns to Concentration Camps

This article was originally published by John W. Whitehead and Nisha Whitehead at The Rutherford Institute.

“All the Dachaus must remain standing. The Dachaus, the Belsens, the Buchenwald, the Auschwitzes—all of them. They must remain standing because they are a monument to a moment in time when some men decided to turn the Earth into a graveyard. Into it they shoveled all of their reason, their logic, their knowledge, but worst of all, their conscience. And the moment we forget this, the moment we cease to be haunted by its remembrance, then we become the gravediggers.”— Rod Serling, Deaths-Head Revisited

In the politically charged, polarizing tug-of-war that is the debate over COVID-19, we find ourselves buffeted by fear over a viral pandemic that continues to wreak havoc with lives and the economy, threats of vaccine mandates and financial penalties for noncompliance, and discord over how to legislate the public good without sacrificing individual liberty.

The discord is getting more discordant by the day.

Just recently, for instance, the Salt Lake Tribune Editorial Board suggested that government officials should mandate mass vaccinations and deploy the National Guard “to ensure that people without proof of vaccination would not be allowed, well, anywhere.”

In other words, lock up the unvaccinated and use the military to determine who gets to be “free.”

These tactics have been used before.

This is why significant numbers of people are worried: because this is the slippery slope that starts with well-meaning intentions for the greater good and ends with tyrannical abuses no one should tolerate.

For a glimpse at what the future might look like if such a policy were to be enforced, look beyond America’s borders.

In Italy, the unvaccinated are banned from restaurants, bars, and public transportation, and could face suspensions from work and monthly fines. Similarly, France will ban the unvaccinated from most public venues.

In Austria, anyone who has not complied with the vaccine mandate could face fines up to $4100. Police will be authorized to carry out routine checks and demand proof of vaccination, with penalties of as much as $685 for failure to do so.

In China, which has adopted a zero-tolerance, “zero COVID” strategy, whole cities—some with populations in the tens of millions—are being forced into home lockdowns for weeks on end, resulting in mass shortages of food and household supplies. Reports have surfaced of residents “trading cigarettes for cabbage, dishwashing liquid for apples, and sanitary pads for a small pile of vegetables. One resident traded a Nintendo Switch console for a packet of instant noodles and two steamed buns.”

For those unfortunate enough to contract COVID-19, China has constructed “quarantine camps” throughout the country: massive complexes boasting thousands of small, metal boxes containing little more than a bed and a toilet. Detainees—including children, pregnant women, and the elderly— were reportedly ordered to leave their homes in the middle of the night, transported to the quarantine camps in buses, and held in isolation.

If this last scenario sounds chillingly familiar, it should.

Eighty years ago, another authoritarian regime established more than 44,000 quarantine camps for those perceived as “enemies of the state”: racially inferior, politically unacceptable, or simply non-compliant.

While the majority of those imprisoned in the Nazi concentration camps, forced labor camps, incarceration sites, and ghettos were Jews, there were also Polish nationals, gypsies, Russians, political dissidents, resistance fighters, Jehovah’s Witnesses, and homosexuals.

Culturally, we have become so fixated on the mass murders of Jewish prisoners by the Nazis that we overlook the fact that the purpose of these concentration camps were initially intended to “incarcerate and intimidate the leaders of political, social, and cultural movements that the Nazis perceived to be a threat to the survival of the regime.”

As the U.S. Holocaust Memorial Museum explains:

“Most prisoners in the early concentration camps were political prisoners—German Communists, Socialists, Social Democrats—as well as Roma (Gypsies), Jehovah’s Witnesses, homosexuals, and persons accused of ‘asocial’ or socially deviant behavior. Many of these sites were called concentration camps. The term concentration camp refers to a camp in which people are detained or confined, usually under harsh conditions and without regard to legal norms of arrest and imprisonment that are acceptable in a constitutional democracy.”

How do you get from there to here, from Auschwitz concentration camps to COVID quarantine centers?

Connect the dots.

You don’t have to be unvaccinated or a conspiracy theorist or even anti-government to be worried about what lies ahead. You just have to recognize the truth in the warning: power corrupts, and absolute power corrupts absolutely.

This is not about COVID-19. Nor is it about politics, populist movements, or any particular country.

This is about what happens when good, generally decent people—distracted by manufactured crises, polarizing politics, and fighting that divides the populace into warring “us vs. them” camps—fail to take note of the looming danger that threatens to wipe freedom from the map and place us all in chains.

It’s about what happens when any government is empowered to adopt a comply-or-suffer-the-consequences mindset that is enforced through mandates, lockdowns, penalties, detention centers, martial law, and a disregard for the rights of the individual.

The slippery slope begins in just this way, with propaganda campaigns about the public good being more important than individual liberty, and it ends with lockdowns and concentration camps.

The danger signs are everywhere.

Claudio Ronco, a 66-year-old Orthodox Jew and a specialist in 18th-century music, recognizes the signs. Because of his decision to remain unvaccinated, Ronco is trapped inside his house, unable to move about in public without a digital vaccination card. He can no longer board a plane, check into a hotel, eat at a restaurant or get a coffee at a bar. He has been ostracized by friends, shut out of public life, and will soon face monthly fines for insisting on his right to bodily integrity and individual freedom.

This is the slippery slope: a government empowered to restrict movements, limit individual liberty, and isolate “undesirables” to prevent the spread of a disease is a government that has the power to lock down a country, label whole segments of the population a danger to national security, and force those undesirables—a.k.a. extremists, dissidents, troublemakers, etc.—into isolation so they don’t contaminate the rest of the populace.

The world has been down this road before, too.

Others have ignored the warning signs. We cannot afford to do so.

As historian Milton Mayer recounts in his seminal book on Hitler’s rise to power, They Thought They Were Free:

“Most of us did not want to think about fundamental things and never had. There was no need to. Nazism gave us some dreadful, fundamental things to think about—we were decent people‑—and kept us so busy with continuous changes and ‘crises’ and so fascinated, yes, fascinated, by the machinations of the ‘national enemies’, without and within, that we had no time to think about these dreadful things that were growing, little by little, all around us.”

The German people chose to ignore the truth and believe the lie.

They were not oblivious to the horrors taking place around them. As historian Robert Gellately points out, “[A]nyone in Nazi Germany who wanted to find out about the Gestapo, the concentration camps, and the campaigns of discrimination and persecutions need only read the newspapers.”

The warning signs were there, blinking incessantly like large neon signs.

“Still,” Gellately writes, “the vast majority voted in favor of Nazism, and in spite of what they could read in the press and hear by word of mouth about the secret police, the concentration camps, official anti-Semitism, and so on. . . . [T]here is no getting away from the fact that at that moment, ‘the vast majority of the German people backed him.’”

Half a century later, the wife of a prominent German historian, neither of whom were members of the Nazi party, opined: “[O]n the whole, everyone felt well. . . . And there were certainly eighty percent who lived productively and positively throughout the time. . . . We also had good years. We had wonderful years.”

In other words, as long as their creature comforts remained undiminished, as long as their bank accounts remained flush, as long as they weren’t being locked up, locked down, discriminated against, persecuted, starved, beaten, shot, stripped, jailed or killed, life was good.

Life is good in America, too, as long as you’re able to keep cocooning yourself in political fantasies that depict a world in which your party is always right and everyone else is wrong while distracting yourself with bread-and-circus entertainment that bears no resemblance to reality.

Indeed, life in America may be good for the privileged few who aren’t being locked up, locked down, discriminated against, persecuted, starved, beaten, shot, stripped, jailed, or killed, but it’s getting worse by the day for the rest of us.

Which brings me back to the present crisis: COVID-19 is not the Holocaust, and those who advocate vaccine mandates, lockdowns, and quarantine camps are not Hitler, but this still has the makings of a slippery slope.

The means do not justify the ends: we must find other ways of fighting a pandemic without resorting to mandates and lockdowns and concentration camps. To do otherwise is to lay the groundwork for another authoritarian monster to rise up and wreak havoc.

If we do not want to repeat the past, then we must learn from past mistakes.

January 27 marks Remembrance Day, the anniversary of the liberation of Auschwitz-Birkenau, a day for remembering those who died at the hands of Hitler’s henchmen and those who survived the horrors of the Nazi concentration camps.

Yet remembering is not enough. We can do better. We must do better.

As I make clear in my book Battlefield America: The War on the American People and in its fictional counterpart The Erik Blair Diaries, the world is teetering on the edge of authoritarian madness.

All it will take is one solid push for tyranny to prevail.

Looking Out A Shattered Window

What Exactly Are Window Security Bars

Window bars are protective metal bars for windows. These devices make entry into your home near impossible.

Their sole purpose is to prevent access through a window. They typically include bolting heavy-duty metal bars over your windows. Thus, leaving room for airflow.

Permanent Bars

You install these window safety bars with the intention of them being permanent.

You will have dedicated security long-term with this type.
