A couple decades ago, the U.S. military was an unparalleled fighting machine. Both Russia and China seemed hopelessly behind, and nobody dared to challenge America’s military superiority. Everyone else was battling for second place in the pecking order, and they knew it. But since that time, Russia and China have engaged in extremely aggressive modernization programs, while the U.S. military has chosen to focus on becoming more “diverse” and “inclusive”. As a result, the balance of power has changed dramatically.
In this article, I would like to focus on a few examples that demonstrate the shift that has taken place.
For instance, the Russians are extremely excited about their new ultra-quiet Borei-class submarines that can rain death and destruction down upon their enemies from thousands of miles away…
Each of the submarine’s sixteen R-30 Bulava (“Mace”) missiles typically carries six 150-kiloton nuclear warheads designed to split apart to hit separate targets. This means one Borei can rain seventy-two nuclear warheads ten times more destructive than the bomb dropped on Hiroshima on cities and military bases over 5,800 miles away.
The Borei is the most advanced SSBN in the Russian Navy, and is designed to replace its seven Soviet-era Delta-class SSBNs.
In China, scientists have been feverishly working to develop fearsome biologically-enhanced “super soldiers” that could potentially be far superior to standard western soldiers in a future war…
U.S. intelligence shows that China has conducted “human testing” on members of the People’s Liberation Army in hope of developing soldiers with “biologically enhanced capabilities,” the top U.S. intelligence official said Friday.
John Ratcliffe, the director of national intelligence, included the explosive claim in a long Wall Street Journal op-ed in which he made the case that China poses the pre-eminent national security threat to the U.S.
Meanwhile, Joe Biden says that the U.S. military is “making good progress” on feminist issues. Some of the current priorities include “creating maternity flight suits” and loosening hairstyle requirements…
You know, some of — some of it is relatively straightforward work where we’re making good progress designing body armor that fits women properly; tailoring combat uniforms for women; creating maternity flight suits; updating — updating requirements for their hairstyles.
Of course any of the old-timers that dare to object to the new “woke military” are being purged, and so soon their won’t be any dissenting voices standing in the way of the social justice reforms that the Biden administration wishes to implement.
Over in Russia, “diversity” is not a military priority. Instead, they are getting ready to introduce the new Sarmat intercontinental nuclear missiles into service. These new missiles can travel at speeds of up to 15,000 mph, and a single missile has enough firepower to “wipe out Texas”…
RUSSIA is poised to test an “unstoppable” 15,000 mph nuclear missile it boasts can beat any defense and wipe out Texas.
The RS-28 Sarmat doomsday rocket is now primed to replace the much-feared R-36 – once dubbed the “Satan” nuke by Nato.
The Kremlin brags it has a range of around 6,200 miles, can carry 16 warheads and is able to dodge any missile defense system.
At the same time, the Chinese are rapidly developing highly advanced missile delivery systems that look just like “standard international shipping containers”…
This missile would be a land-attack variant of an advanced anti-ship missile that would be deployed in launchers appearing to be standard international shipping containers from the outside. Such containers are being used all around the world for moving millions of tons of goods, and are often placed on the deck of large freighters.
The YJ-18C is China’s version of the Club-K cruise missile built by Russia that also uses a launcher disguised as a shipping container. Israel also is working on a container-launched missile called the Lora. Rick Fisher, a China military affairs expert, said he is not surprised China is copying the Russian Club container-launched missile. “It fits with China’s penchant for seeking asymmetric advantages against its enemies,” he said.
Of course the U.S. military is modernizing as well.
In fact, it has been reported that U.S. strategic nuclear forces are no longer using 8-inch floppy disks from the 1970s…
In 2014, “60 Minutes” made famous the 8-inch floppy disks used by one antiquated Air Force computer system that, in a crisis, could receive an order from the president to launch nuclear missiles from silos across the United States.
But no more. At long last, that system, the Strategic Automated Command and Control System or SACCS, has dumped the floppy disk, moving to a “highly secure solid state digital storage solution” this past June, said Lt. Col. Jason Rossi, commander of the Air Force’s 595th Strategic Communications Squadron.
That is exciting news.
What is next? Will they finally get rid of all of their old rotary phones?
Meanwhile, President Biden is making it exceedingly clear that the U.S. military will have a culture of “inclusiveness” from this point forward…
That’s why we moved so quickly to overturn the discriminary — discriminatory ban on transgender service, and why General Austin’s first memo was a directive to take sexual assault in the military seriously.
Every single person, no matter their gender identity, sexual orientation, race, or religious background, deserves to feel safe in the ranks and to have their contributions valued.
I could go on and on with more examples, but I think that most of you get the point.
The U.S. military is being transformed into an institution of social change, and at the same time Russia and China are tightly focused on trying to figure out how to fight and win World War III.
When it comes time to fight a real war, do you think that we will actually win?
Just because the U.S. military was overwhelmingly dominant at one time, that does not mean that it is still that way today or that it will be that way in the future.
One of the only things that is constant about our world is change, and right now the U.S. military is definitely changing in the wrong direction.

At this hour, more Russian military forces are massed near Ukraine’s borders than we have ever seen before. Western military leaders say that they are concerned that the troop movements that we have witnessed in recent days may be leading up to an invasion, and if an invasion does happen it will greatly test the resolve of the Biden administration, EU leaders, and NATO brass.
In particular, the hawks in the Biden administration would almost certainly not be willing to just sit back and let the Russians conquer all of Ukraine. There would likely be a major response by the United States, and that could set off a chain reaction that could ultimately spark World War 3.
So what made the Russians suddenly move a massive invasion force toward Ukraine?
Well, it turns out that Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky essentially signed a declaration of war against Russia on March 24th. The document that he signed is known as Decree No. 117/2021, and you won’t read anything about it in the corporate media.
I really had to dig to find Decree No. 117/2021, but eventually, I found it. I took several of the paragraphs at the beginning of the document and I ran them through Google translate…
In accordance with Article 107 of the Constitution of Ukraine, I decree:
1. To put into effect the decision of the National Security and Defense Council of Ukraine of March 11, 2021 “On the Strategy of deoccupation and reintegration of the temporarily occupied territory of the Autonomous Republic of Crimea and the city of Sevastopol” (attached).
2. To approve the Strategy of deoccupation and reintegration of the temporarily occupied territory of the Autonomous Republic of Crimea and the city of Sevastopol (attached).
3. Control over the implementation of the decision of the National Security and Defense Council of Ukraine, enacted by this Decree, shall be vested in the Secretary of the National Security and Defense Council of Ukraine.
4. This Decree shall enter into force on the day of its publication.

Basically, this decree makes it the official policy of the government of Ukraine to retake Crimea from Russia.
Of course, the Russians will never hand over Crimea willingly because they consider it to be Russian territory, and so Ukraine would have to take it by force.
This is essentially a declaration of war against Russia, and Zelensky would have never signed such a document without the approval of the Biden administration.
Following the signing of Decree No. 117/2021, we started to see Russian forces pour into Crimea and into separatist-held areas of eastern Ukraine at a staggering rate.

In addition, it is being reported that the 56th Guards Air Assault Brigade is on the move, and that is not a good sign at all.

The Russians are taking Zelensky’s declaration of war very seriously, but the corporate media in the western world is blaming “Russian aggression” for the increase in tensions in the region.
But the truth is that the Russians never would have made any of these moves if warmongers in the Biden administration had not given Zelensky the green light to sign Decree No. 117/2021.
And what most people in the western world don’t know is that fighting has already begun in Ukraine. The ceasefire that was agreed to in July 2020 has been violated hundreds of times over the past week…
The OSCE’s civilian Special Monitoring Mission to Ukraine has reported hundreds of cease-fire violations in recent days. On March 26, four Ukrainian soldiers were killed and two others injured in the eastern part of the country.
The Ukrainian military said its soldiers were hit by a mortar attack it blamed on Russian troops. Russia denies having a military presence in eastern Ukraine, where it backs separatist forces.
At this point, the ceasefire of July 2020 is completely dead.
In response to the renewed fighting, U.S. European Command “has raised its alert status to the highest level”…
U.S. European Command has raised its alert status to the highest level after fighting resumed between Russian-backed separatists and Ukrainian soldiers in the Donetsk Region of eastern Ukraine, marking the end of a June 2020 ceasefire, and Russian forces began building up military equipment along the border.
And we just learned that the chairman of the joint chiefs actually had a telephone call with his counterpart in Russia on Wednesday to address the escalating situation…
In a statement on Facebook on Wednesday, the Russian Ministry of Defense said that at the initiative of the U.S., chairman of the joint chiefs of staff, Mark Milley, had a telephone conversation with his counterpart. “Issues of mutual interest were discussed,” the statement said.
In the days ahead, the corporate media in the western world is going to continue talking about “Russian aggression”, and the Russians are going to continue to blame Zelensky and the Biden administration for the rise of tensions in the region.
Ultimately, we could spend countless hours debating who is in the right and who is in the wrong.
But what really matters is keeping this from escalating into a global conflict. Because if someone does something really stupid and the Russians feel a need to send their invasion force into Ukraine, there will be no going back ever.
I have been warning about a future conflict between the United States and Russia for a very long time, and we have never been closer than we are right now.
With Trump in the White House, relations with Russia were relatively stable, but now Joe Biden is in charge.
Biden is a hothead that is showing signs of advanced cognitive decline, and he is surrounded by a team of warmongers that are determined to put Russian President Vladimir Putin in his place.
The inmates are running the asylum, and it won’t take much of a mistake at all for things to go horribly, horribly wrong.

The horrific drought that has much of the western half of the United States in a death grip has already surpassed what many scientists thought was possible. Some areas of the Southwest went more than 200 straight days without any measurable rain last year, vegetation is disappearing at a frightening pace, and giant dust storms are becoming increasingly common. For years, we have been warned that the droughts in the Southwest were getting worse. For years, we have been warned that Dust Bowl conditions would return. Now a nightmare scenario is upon us, and authorities are using the term “megadrought” to describe what is taking place…
The western U.S. continues to endure dry conditions, and now scientists are using the term “megadrought” to describe the problem — which has existed for decades — with no end in sight.
“A megadrought is typically a drought event that has a long duration,” Brian Fuchs, with the National Drought Mitigation Center, said to FOX Television Stations Tuesday.
The latest U.S. Drought Monitor map that has been released has such bad news that it is hard to believe. More than 265,000 square miles of territory is currently experiencing “exceptional drought conditions”…
The scope of the western drought is chilling. All of Nevada, Utah and New Mexico are in drought, according to the US Drought Monitor. Close behind are Arizona at 98.9% and Colorado at 98.6%.
More disturbing is the size of what’s called the “exceptional drought” area, according to the US Drought Monitor. Parts of Arizona, Nevada, Utah, New Mexico, Colorado, California and Texas classified as exceptional drought, total 265,200 square miles. For comparison, that is nearly equivalent to the size of Texas.
It would be difficult to overstate the severity of this crisis. In fact, the Wall Street Journal says that this drought is already “one of the most severe on record in the Southwest”.
Approximately 40 million people depend on the water that flows through this area. With so little snowpack this year, authorities really don’t have any idea how they are going to make it through the summer.
In February, Los Angeles, Phoenix and Yuma did not have any measurable rainfall at all.
Las Vegas had just 0.01 inch of rain for the month.
As winter ends, we will move into a part of the year when many cities may not see any precipitation at all for months on end. Just consider what happened last year…
Las Vegas had a streak of 240 days from April to December 2020 without measurable rain — a trace or less — smashing the previous record of 150 consecutive days in 1959.
Yuma, Arizona had a dry streak of 242 days last year, their third longest streak, while Phoenix was dry a consecutive 110 days. Bishop and Needles, California, also had record dry streaks of over 200 days without measurable rainfall.
Read that first sentence again.
Las Vegas broke their old record by a whopping 90 days last year.
We are in unprecedented territory, and the drought just keeps getting worse.
According to climatologist Brian Fuchs, the epicenter of this drought is in the Four Corners area…
“The Four Corners [Arizona, New Mexico, Colorado and Utah] is the epicenter of this drought,” said Brian Fuchs, climatologist at the National Drought Mitigation Center at the University of Nebraska. “When droughts like this happened long ago, the people living there just had to move.”
As existing supplies of water become more strained than ever before, could we potentially get to a point where large numbers of people will be forced to migrate once again?
It could happen.
This endless drought is also creating ideal conditions for giant dust storms. Just the other day, an enormous dust storm caused a horrifying multi-vehicle crash in Arizona…
The multi-vehicle crash happened late Wednesday afternoon on eastbound I-10 near the intersection of State Route 87.
The dust made things tough for crews from the Eloy Fire District, who were trying to help multiple people. As the firefighters and paramedics worked, they had to deal with zero-visibility dust storm conditions. Photos provided by the department showed thick dust blowing in the area, and crew members trying to shield their faces.
Sadly, such dust storms are becoming a regular occurrence in the western half of the nation. In fact, a few months ago there was a dust storm that was so large that it could be seen from space…
Earlier this month, a storm front swept across the Great Plains of the United States, plowing up a wall of dust that could be seen from space, stretching from eastern Colorado into Nebraska and Kansas. It was a scene straight from the Dust Bowl of the 1930s, when farmers regularly saw soil stripped from their fields and whipped up into choking blizzards of dust.
Better get used to it. According to a new study, dust storms on the Great Plains have become more common and more intense in the past 20 years, because of more frequent droughts in the region and an expansion of croplands. “Our results suggest a tipping point is approaching, where the conditions of the 1930s could return,” says Gannet Haller, an atmospheric scientist at the University of Utah who led the study.
Needless to say, these conditions are making it extremely difficult for farmers to grow anything.
In fact, thousands of farmers in New Mexico have already taken at least some of their acres out of production for 2021…
Gary Esslinger, treasurer-manager of the district in Las Cruces, New Mexico, told WSJ that his area’s conditions are absolutely “horrific.” He said at least 33% of the 6,500 farmers in his region had taken offline 90,640 irrigable acres out of production from previous drought years.
New Mexico State Engineer John D’Antonio Jr. has requested farmers not to plant this year due to dangerously low levels at the state’s reservoirs.
Other farmers are going to try to operate normally, but they know that the outlook is extremely bleak.
New Mexico farmer Travis Harris understands what he is potentially facing, and he says that it is “very scary going into this season”…
Harris is all too familiar with this. He said he didn’t get his full water allotment in 2020. Last fall, he said, his water got shut off a month early. He keeps a close eye on the conditions high in the mountains, too, knowing how deeply they affect him.
“There’s no snowpack. There’s no water in storage up north,” Harris said. “It’s very scary going into this season.”
I have been writing about the drought in the Southwest for years, and this is the worst that I have ever seen it by a wide margin. If conditions continue to deteriorate, that will have very serious implications for all of us.
Unfortunately, experts are expecting 2021 to be another exceedingly dry year.
That means that this crisis isn’t going to go away any time soon, and supplies of water in the region will just continue to get tighter and tighter.

If U.S. Customs and Border Protection personnel are intercepting more than 100,000 migrants a month as they try to illegally cross the southern border, how many more are able to make it through undetected? In recent days, there has been a whole bunch of news stories about the nightmarish border crisis that we are currently facing. Now that President Trump is out of the White House, vast numbers of migrants have been flooding toward our southern border over the past couple of months. They are desperate for a better life, and the perception that Joe Biden is implementing “open border policies” gives them hope that they will be allowed in.
But when they try to cross the border, approximately 70 percent of those that are intercepted by CBP are turned away…
Customs and Border Protection officers have encountered over 100,000 migrants at the border in February alone, highlighting how overwhelming the situation has become.
The vast majority of migrants – around 70%, according to one source – are expelled via public health order Title 42 that allows authorities to quickly return migrants to their country of travel.
But of course countless more migrants are making it in through gaps in our porous border security. When the Daily Mail sent a team down to the Rio Grande, they witnessed traffickers bringing migrants across the river over and over again…
As the night drew on, this brief, chaotic encounter was repeated again and again as scores of migrants crossed one of the narrowest sections of the Rio Grande with virtual impunity.
Over a two-hour period we watched in disbelief as the three-man trafficking crew made five drop-offs, cramming as many as ten people into a boat designed for four.
Of the 96 newcomers they dumped onto a slippery riverbank in Roma, an hour’s drive west of McAllen, 13 were unaccompanied children, including sisters aged five and 12.
This sort of thing is happening at various points along the southern border night after night, and yet nothing is done to stop it.
Of course CBP personnel can’t be everywhere, and without a doubt they have their hands full on a constant basis.
Thanks to the “catch and release” policy that has been instituted by the Biden administration, many of those that the CBP is able to detain are processed and then released into the country…
Under Biden’s revisions, single men and women will still be sent back but families with young children will be taken to a Border Patrol facility, processed and released with an I-862 form – a notice to appear before an immigration court at a later date.
Needless to say, only a very small percentage of those migrants ever show up at immigration court.
It is an absolutely disastrous policy, and Biden administration officials know this.
But they just keep doing it anyway.
U.S. Customs and Border Protection is the agency that is tasked with protecting our borders, and their job has become a complete and utter nightmare.
The following are 10 quotes that come directly from the official CBP Twitter account that demonstrate how bad the crisis on the border has now become…
“In February, CBP encountered 100,441 persons attempting entry along the SW border. This is a 28% increase over January.”
“Laredo Sector Border Patrol agents apprehended multiple people attempting to illegally enter the U.S. through the Rio Grande River. Several individuals drifted back to the Mexican side of the river on inner tubes.”
“Border Patrol agents conducting a train check found 16 people inside of a storage container after discovering that the seal from the storage container’s door had been broken. The group was from Guatemala, Honduras and Mexico.”
“#USBP agents assigned to the Laredo North Station apprehended 111 individuals during three separate human smuggling attempts involving commercial trailers north of Laredo, Texas.”
“Within a 12-hour period, the Laredo Sector Border Patrol Horse Patrol Unit apprehended 125 individuals in 3 different human smuggling attempts”
“Over the weekend, @CBPRGV Border Patrol agents assigned to the Rio Grande City Station encountered two large groups crossing into the U.S., leading to the apprehension of 247 individuals from Honduras, El Salvador, Guatemala, Nicaragua and Romania.”
“On Wednesday, CBP officers in Laredo seized 28 containers manifested as acrylic paint, holding a total of 1,234lbs of meth. The estimated street value of the seizure is over $24M.”
“CBP agents and officers have seized more than 75,100lbs of methamphetamine during the first five months of FY21, a 9% increase over the same time last year.”
“CBP agents and officers have seized more than 43,300lbs of cocaine during the first five months of FY21, a 64% increase over the same time last year.”

In January, the number of migrants intercepted by CBP was about twice the level that was reported in January 2020.
And then as you just read about above, the number of migrants intercepted in February was 28 percent higher than January.
What is going to happen if the numbers just keep going up like this?
According to one CBP source, the number of migrants has gone “from a trickle to a torrent” since Biden entered the White House…
But as a well-placed Border Patrol source told us under condition of anonymity: ‘The cartels don’t know or care what the actual policies or politics are.
‘They just tell the migrants that Biden will let them stay and the migrants believe it because that’s the rhetoric he used on the campaign trail.
‘The numbers have exploded since he took office. It went from a trickle to a torrent.’
What is really ironic is that this is about the worst possible time to be moving into the United States, but of course the migrants that are trying to come in illegally don’t realize this.
Most of them truly believe that life will be so much better if they can just get to America, and many of them are willing to go to extreme lengths to get across the border.
Brave CBP officials will continue to do their jobs, but the Biden administration will continue to undermine them at every turn, and that means that the crisis at the border is not going away any time soon.

Today we’ll be focusing on the different types of gunshot wounds. We will look at specific examples and discuss gunshot wound management depending on its severity, location on the body, etc. in the second part.
Let me start with some background on why I chose to write on this subject.
I was driving home and listening to one of my favorite radio talk shows. A caller related a recent event from his life. He accidentally caused a self-inflicted gunshot to the lower leg.
Fortunately, the caller is progressing towards recovery, but it will be a long and painful road. I wish him the very best. The talk show host brought up a very interesting point; how many shooters and gun owners have some trauma training?
How many shooters have a trauma kit available to deal with the massive injuries caused by gunshots? The seed was planted, and my head started to put together this article.
If you read my bio, you will see that I have quite a bit of EMS background. As a shooter, I have an opportunity to combine these subjects and present them here so if this horrifying situation happens in your lives, you will have a better chance of success than most.

So to let you in on a bit of my EMS background, I hold a certification as a coordinator in the following trauma specialties:
If you are not familiar with these certifications, please look them up if you are so inclined. I do not want to spend a bunch of time talking about myself and get onto the subject at hand.
So as I start this series, let me lay out the ground rules I want to stay within to keep on the subject and not get into product reviews.
Bullet Types
Types of Wound Channels
We will cover the three types of wound channels created by the bullet interacting with tissues. These wound channels are:
Everyone that has studied guns has seen the video footage of bullets traveling into and through a ballistic gel. Great visuals to show different types of bullets and cartridges shooting through different media.
So, I am going to assume everyone has seen this. If not, check out the example in the video below.
When the footage shows the impact, the primary tract or “hole” is evident, and missing the gel or in the case of a body, or any sort, missing tissues. After the action video, the secondary tract can easily be seen, and it looks cloudy.
Usually, this gel or tissues would still be present but massively damaged, usually beyond repair. During the action shot, the gel block will warp, wriggle, bulge and represents a massive transfer of energy that is the fluid shock wave.
The host of this action video will measure the primary tract, and show the penetration, and may even recover the bullet to show it is after profile.
The host will almost always discuss the secondary tract and measure the amount of tissue damage to expect from using this type of ammunition.
What is usually not discussed is the fluid shock wave that was such massive energy transfer, it at times will escape the gel block and they will suffer a “blowout.”
Let us take a quick look at this shock wave. I will talk a bit later about the tissues this shock wave will affect most drastically.
But for right now to keep the reader’s interest, let me introduce this – that shock wave can impact solid organs hard enough to rupture them and at times even fracture and split the organ into pieces.
Now, that happens without the bullet ever touching the organ or tissues; it can happen in a separate cavity of the body, depending on the ammo type and caliber, etc.
Another “rule” I want to discuss is I will use moulage (or fake injuries) to make my points on gunshot wounds. Here are the simple justifications for this:
The images we will create will be disturbing to some but remember, no animals were injured making this article.
I have asked my good friends and colleagues to help me with this endeavor. Their company is called “Brothers Grimm, Masters of Disaster.”
They specialize in moulage training for every level of disaster and have adopted me into the Brothers Grimm. I could not be more honored.
We took the accompanying pictures while working with an ARMY unit. I promised to not include any identifying information on the soldiers, so please don’t ask.
Many of the stacks of pictures that we have, should not be used in a publication, for ID reasons, and some are pretty over the top. These guys are very good at what they do.

Now onto the final “rule.” The audience this article is written for is you, the gun site reader. If we have trauma surgeons reading, and they want to argue minute details, this article is not written for you.
Ammo manufacturer representatives that want to point out this type of super bullet vs. this other one; I apologize that you are not happy with this article, but it is not written for you either.
This article is written for the average shooter to gain two things:
Ok, now onto the “nitty-gritty” parts of this discussion. We need to establish the types of tissues that will be affected by terminal ballistics.
One of the biggest influences I have had in EMS is my good friend and brother, Franco Cerchiari. He is a Critical Care Flight Medic, Dive Medic if it has a medic in the name, he probably has that certification.
He has a saying we use when teaching EMS students: “everything means something.” That is perfect advice for dealing with gunshot wounds. So I will cover everything, to help us learn what to do when we have something happen.
First off, we will discuss hard tissue, generally speaking, bone tissue. Second, we will discuss soft tissues or skin and muscle tissues, we will spend most of our discussion on the muscle tissues, as skin damage is pretty obvious to nearly all shooters.
Next, solid organs. All these will be in the thoracic (chest) and the abdominal cavities. Finally, the hollow organs. Again these are located in the thoracic and abdominal cavities.
When a fast-moving bullet strikes a hard tissue, it will most likely drill a hole right through it. Now that is obvious.
However, a bullet that has encountered tissues and clothing will not be flying in a perfect pattern and will not just cut the hole, it will also split the bone.
Think of this as a large screw splitting a piece of wood that is not pre-drilled when building a shelving unit – or what you choose to build.
When the bullet encounters any resistance, the perfect trajectory is altered, and the bullet will begin to wobble and at times even tumble.
Introducing this alteration will send the energy along with the bone tissue, causing cracking and splitting to occur. To picture this energy transfer imagine a metal pipe hung from a string, and you hit it with a hammer.
When the hammer strikes the pole, it may make a dent, but the energy vibrates along the pipe from the impact area to each end of the pipe making it ring like a bell. When the bullet strikes the bone tissue, the energy will transfer similarly.
If that happens, and a wobble or tumble is generated. It will send much more energy down the bone and cause more of the hard tissues to break away and makes the one tissue less stable.

When a fast-moving bullet strikes the soft tissues, many things happen. The obvious injury is the bullet carving out tissues.
The second will be the explosive effects of that primary tissue rupture sending directed energy into the surrounding tissues and tearing and ripping the nearby tissues. Massive bleeding will occur.
If the wound does not appear to have massive bleeding at first, when that injury moves, the tissue will contract and stretch causing tissues to begin pouring blood out of the wound.
This is called hemorrhage (Heme = blood & rrhage = uncontrolled flow). So here is a good place to discuss the types of bullets that I alluded to earlier.
When solid bullets designed for penetration enter the soft tissues, they will do just that. If the trajectory becomes disrupted, they may tumble, expending all of their energy to the surrounding tissues – a massive wound channel.
If the solid bullet does not tumble, it may have a simple deformation causing a bit larger wound channel. But not much. The solid bullet will, more often than not, pass directly thru the target unless the target is massive.
It will exit, taking some and at the time, half of its energy with it. That is not the greatest way to use the energy available to bullet terminal ballistics if stopping the target is the main goal, for personal protection or hunting game animals.
The way to get the bullet’s terminal ballistics to leave its energy in the target is to have the bullet intentionally deform and deliver all its energy. This is the reason we have expanding ammo.
The ammo industry has taken this one or two steps higher and, instead of just opening to deliver the energy, they have now engineered bullets to open in a deliberate fashion.
These awesome bullets now make an even bigger primary tract, which directly translates to a bigger secondary tract, and as I will discuss in a short while, a massive fluid shock wave.
So let’s relate a bit of common knowledge to this application of soft tissue injury. Everyone has seen a boat speeding thru the water. The massive wake behind the boat, that is the effects of the fluid shock wave.
We will get there soon enough. The other thing we have all seen is the wave from the bow of the ship as it pushes its way thru the water. That is a point we need to look at for bullets and soft tissues.
When the bullet enters the target, it begins to carve out the surrounding tissues. We all understand this. The flatter the front of the bullet, the more tissue it can displace prior to the bullet carving out the “hole” of the primary channel.
The hollow point is designed to use to open the bullet and begin and continue its expansion. The tissue is not being “cut open” it is being “ripped open” like the wave at the bow of the boat.
The boat hull will be like the bullet carving the tissues, and like I have alluded to, the wave behind the boat is the fluid shock wave.
With tissues cut, ripped open, and then blasted apart after the bullet passes, the damage we need to prepare for is much more massive than the largest expansion of the rounds.
Now, let’s talk about this fluid shock wave. When this fluid shock wave travels thru soft tissue, it meets resistance, and in turn, to keep traveling, the energy has to overcome the tissue’s ability to absorb the energy.
“That is great, now what does that mean?” Let me make it simple, if the tissue cannot absorb the energy, it will be blasted apart.
The next tissues to absorb the energy, will either need to absorb the energy, be blasted apart, or ripped apart. If the energy slows as it passed thru the tissue, the energy will rip them.
The tissue will blast and won’t survive if the energy just flat out exceeds the tissue elasticity. Now onto the tissue side of the equation.
Muscle tissue is very tough, capable of doing an immense amount of work, and recovers better than most tissues in the body. Muscle tissue has a giant blood supply.
If these tissues are cut apart, ripped apart, or blasted apart, that injury will hemorrhage. To keep the body from going into shock followed by loss of life, it needs serious and immediate treatment.
Solid organs will suffer the same effects as muscle tissue. For the purposes of this article, let me talk about the unexpected effects of gunshot wounds that do not carve a hole in the organ.
This fluid shock wave I keep talking about is capable of affecting tissues up to 19 inches from the primary channel, again depending on bullet-design and caliber, etc.
So it is possible for a bullet wound in the shoulder to send enough energy into the thoracic cavity to impact the heart. Causing a cardiac contusion or simply put a heart bruise.
When this happens, the heart may go into unhealthy rhythms called dysrhythmia and may lead to the heart coming to a complete stop or cardiac arrest.
On top of the cardiac issue that may come from this, the shock wave may even affect the diaphragm, the trachea, even the bronchi. Massive bad things will come from this.
So a gunshot wound in the shoulder can impact very important internal organs that may compromise the next breath the body tries to take.
Needless to say, a bullet impact in the abdominal cavity can affect the sold organs in the area. Think of the damage that the shock wave will cause if there is a spinal stroke.
Even if the bullet is unable to penetrate the spinal column of bone tissue, the resulting shock wave damage could be massive.
So here is a bit of good news, not much good news about bullet injuries, but some. The hollow organs have the ability to bend and flex.
The destructive energy transfers to the flexible organ tissues and dissipates when this shock wave strikes leaving only the primary and some secondary injury tract.
Now for the bad news, most hollow organs that can take the fluid shock wave are usually filled with horrible poisonous stuff. It leaks out and begins to dissolve us from the inside out.
The exception to this is, of course, the lungs. When the bullet’s path damages the lungs, we have a whole new set of problems with air pressure leaving the lungs. It will begin to fill up the thoracic cavity.
This pressure creates a condition called Tension Pneumothorax. Most folks call this the Sucking Chest Wound. Now, those in the medical fields, I know I have lumped everything into one pile.
The point is to be ready for bad situations, not prep all the readers for tests. We will cover how to treat this later when we discuss what to do about these issues.
Knowing how to treat gunshot wounds is vital when SHTF. Gunshot injuries are extremely traumatic and must be approached the same way as stab or puncture wounds. You need to treat the entry and exit wound as well.
Gunshot victims need immediate attention and treatment because the material and debris can infect the wound.
Reminder: The victim still needs to be taken to a hospital’s emergency room as quickly as possible for proper treatment of gunshot wounds.
