This is the moment when humanity will choose between peace and global war. Sadly, it appears that our window of opportunity to choose peace is rapidly closing. Negotiations with Iran have not made much progress, and the Trump administration is warning that it is ready to “walk away” from negotiations to end the war in Ukraine if the Russians and the Ukrainians do not agree to the seven point deal that is now being proposed. We really have reached one of the most critical turning points in human history, but most people living in the western world do not seem to understand the importance of the drama that is playing out right in front of our eyes.
“We’ve issued a very explicit proposal to both the Russians and the Ukrainians, and it’s time for them to either say yes, or for the United States to walk away from this process,” Vance told reporters in India, where he is on a four-day visit.
Vance spoke as envoys from Washington, Kyiv and European nations gathered for talks in the U.K. amid a new U.S. push to end Russia’s war in Ukraine.
“It’s now time, I think, to take, if not the final step, one of the final steps, which is, at a broad level, the party saying we’re going to stop the killing, we’re going to freeze the territorial lines at some level close to where they are today,” Vance added. “Now, of course, that means the Ukrainians and the Russians are both going to have to give up some of the territory they currently own.”
This ultimatum is very similar to an ultimatum that was issued by U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio last week.
It is obvious that the Trump administration is quickly losing patience with the Russians and the Ukrainians, but U.S. officials are willing to take one last shot at a peace agreement.
According to Axios, the following are five things that Russia would get from President Trump’s seven point peace plan…
“De jure” U.S. recognition of Russian control in Crimea.
“De-facto recognition” of the Russia’s occupation of nearly all of Luhansk oblast and the occupied portions of Donetsk, Kherson and Zaporizhzhia.
A promise that Ukraine will not become a member of NATO. The text notes that Ukraine could become part of the European Union.
The lifting of sanctions imposed since 2014.
Enhanced economic cooperation with the U.S., particularly in the energy and industrial sectors.
And the following are four things that Ukraine would get from President Trump’s seven point peace plan…
“A robust security guarantee” involving an ad hoc group of European countries and potentially also like-minded non-European countries. The document is vague in terms of how this peacekeeping operation would function and does not mention any U.S. participation.
The return of the small part of Kharkiv oblast Russia has occupied.
Unimpeded passage of the Dnieper River, which runs along the front line in parts of southern Ukraine.
Compensation and assistance for rebuilding, though the document does not say where the funding will come from.
The plan that the Trump administration is proposing is reasonable.
I would highly encourage both sides to agree to the deal.
Ukraine will not legally recognize Russia’s occupation of Crimea under any circumstances, President Volodymyr Zelensky said during a briefing in Kyiv on April 22.
“There is nothing to talk about. This violates our Constitution. This is our territory, the territory of the people of Ukraine,” Zelensky told reporters.
The statement comes amid reports that the recognition of Crimea as Russian territory is being considered as part of a U.S.-backed proposal to end the war in Ukraine.
What in the world is he thinking?
Ukraine is losing the war.
If the war continues, Ukraine will steadily lose even more territory.
I can definitely understand why President Trump is fed up with this guy. After learning of these comments, this is what President Trump posted on his Truth Social account…
Ukrainian President, Volodymyr Zelenskyy, is boasting on the front page of The Wall Street Journal that, “Ukraine will not legally recognize the occupation of Crimea. There’s nothing to talk about here.” This statement is very harmful to the Peace Negotiations with Russia in that Crimea was lost years ago under the auspices of President Barack Hussein Obama, and is not even a point of discussion. Nobody is asking Zelenskyy to recognize Crimea as Russian Territory but, if he wants Crimea, why didn’t they fight for it eleven years ago when it was handed over to Russia without a shot being fired? The area also houses, for many years before “the Obama handover,” major Russian submarine bases. It’s inflammatory statements like Zelenskyy’s that makes it so difficult to settle this War. He has nothing to boast about! The situation for Ukraine is dire — He can have Peace or, he can fight for another three years before losing the whole Country. I have nothing to do with Russia, but have much to do with wanting to save, on average, five thousand Russian and Ukrainian soldiers a week, who are dying for no reason whatsoever. The statement made by Zelenskyy today will do nothing but prolong the “killing field,” and nobody wants that! We are very close to a Deal, but the man with “no cards to play” should now, finally, GET IT DONE. I look forward to being able to help Ukraine, and Russia, get out of this Complete and Total MESS, that would have never started if I were President!
The Ukrainians clearly do not want to end the war.
But spokesperson Dmitry Peskov on Tuesday said Russia was not aware of the plan’s terms, responding to a report by The Post about early details of a proposed arrangement.
“The issue of the [Ukrainian] settlement is extremely complex, of course, so it is hardly possible to set some hard deadlines and try to rush the resolution of the conflict into a shortened timeframe,” he told Russian outlet VGTRK. “This would be an exercise in futility.”
If the Trump administration decides to “walk away” from negotiations, any chance at peace with Russia is probably dead.
So what would happen then?
Would we just let the Russians take as much of Ukraine as they want, or would we escalate matters?
Of course if both sides choose to escalate matters, we know what will eventually happen.
Russian President Vladimir Putin has signed a law ratifying a strategic partnership treaty with Iran, Russian state news agency RIA reported on Monday.
The agreement is expected to strengthen military and diplomatic ties between Moscow and Tehran.
As part of the agreement, the two countries agreed not to provide military assistance to any third party with which the other is in hot conflict, according to the Kyiv Independent.
This is a very troubling development, because the U.S. could be at war with Iran very soon.
President Trump has repeatedly warned that if Iran does not make a deal there will be military action against Iran’s nuclear facilities.
On Wednesday, Marco Rubio said that the Iranians would be allowed to have “a civilian nuclear program” but they will not be allowed to continue to enrich uranium under any circumstances…
US Secretary of State Marco Rubio said Wednesday that US President Donald Trump is determined to prevent Iran from attaining a nuclear weapon, and would prefer to do that by negotiations as opposed to military means. However, he said the US would be willing to see Tehran have a civilian nuclear program as long as they were not enriching uranium.
“We do not want a war,” Rubio told Bari Weiss on her Honestly podcast.
“We do not want to see war. This is not a president that campaigned on starting wars. And as he said very clearly, Iran is not going to have a nuclear weapon, and he reserves every right to prevent that from happening, but he would prefer it not happen. He would prefer that there not be a need to resort to military force, either by us or anybody else. He would prefer that it’d be something that we can negotiate.”
The Iranians should take the deal that is being offered to them.
But the Iranians have already clearly stated that enriching uranium is a red line for them. There is no way that they are going to stop doing it, and so that means that war is coming.
Once the attacks on Iran’s underground nuclear facilities start, the Iranians will respond with tremendous force, and the Middle East will erupt in flames.
The Iranians have some “surprises” up their sleeves, but so do the Israelis.
If cooler heads do not prevail, we are going to see tremendous death and destruction in the Middle East.
And if we cannot find a way to achieve peace with the Russians, it is just a matter of time before a worst case scenario unfolds.
This is our last best chance at peace, and we must not blow it.
India and Pakistan both have nuclear weapons, and now they are on the verge of war. It is being reported that India is considering a military response to a horrifying terror attack that occurred in Kashmir earlier this week, and Pakistani forces are already being mobilized in case that happens. If a full-blown war erupts, it will be a really big deal. 247 million people live in Pakistan, and 1.4 billion people live in India. So we are talking about a substantial chunk of the global population, and if nuclear weapons are used the death toll in a war between India and Pakistan would be off the charts.
This latest crisis started on Tuesday when terrorists associated with “The Resistance Front” killed 26 tourists in Kashmir…
Suspected rebels killed at least 26 people on Tuesday in the picturesque tourist resort of Pahalgam in the deadliest such attack in a quarter-century in Indian-administered Kashmir. A statement issued in the name of The Resistance Front (TRF), which is believed to be an offshoot of the Pakistani-based Lashkar-e-Taiba armed group, claimed responsibility for the attack.
Armed police and soldiers searched homes and forests for militants in Indian Kashmir on Friday and India’s army chief reviewed security there after the killing of 26 men at a tourist site – the worst attack on civilians in nearly two decades.
The attack triggered outrage and grief in India, along with calls for action against neighbour Pakistan, whom New Delhi accuses of funding and encouraging terrorism in Kashmir, a region both nations claim and have fought two wars over.
We have seen tensions between these two great nations reach a boiling point before, but never anything quite like this.
On Wednesday, India suspended a water treaty governing the water flows of the Indus River and revoked the visas of Pakistani nationals within its borders. It also closed one of the only land border crossings between the two countries. Pakistan has responded by closing off its airspace to Indian planes and issuing a barrage of reciprocal visa revocations.
Millions of people in Pakistan are extremely dependent on water from the Indus River.
So it would create a major humanitarian crisis if India restricted or cut off the flow of water, but apparently that is what India has decided to do…
The government has decided to stop the flow of Indus River water to Pakistan following the termination of the 1960 Indus Waters Treaty, in response to the deadly terror attack in Pahalgam carried out by Pakistan-based terrorists, sources said.
Yesterday, the Pakistani government warned that messing with the flow of water would be an “act of war”…
Pakistan warned India on Thursday that it was committing an “act of war” by suspending a landmark water-sharing treaty in response to a deadly terror attack in Indian-controlled Kashmir.
The threat from Pakistan Prime Minister’s Office followed a number of diplomatic measures imposed by New Dehli on Islamabad as tensions flare between the neighboring nuclear powers.
We really need a third party to step in and mediate this crisis, because it could spiral out of control very quickly.
Indian officials have confirmed Friday that Indian and Pakistani soldiers briefly exchanged fire along their highly militarized frontier in the disputed Himalayan region of Kashmir, according to The Associated Press.
Small arms were used by both sides in the gunfight, and no casualties have as of yet been reported, a briefing by an Indian official indicated, in the first such live-fire incident since 2021. It also violates a pledge from the same year for the two nations to observe a ceasefire along the disputed Line of Control between Indian and Pakistani controlled areas of Kashmir.
The shooting has stopped for now, but social media is full of videos that show military equipment being moved toward the border.
And it is also an ominous sign that India has moved an aircraft carrier into the Arabian Sea…
In addition, Pakistan “has issued a NOTAM (Notice to Airmen/Mariners) for the Arabian Sea and initiated a naval live fire exercise, while putting its military on full alert in anticipation of a possible military response by India in the wake of the Pahalgam terror attack,” The Print, an Indian news outlet, reported.
India, meanwhile, has the aircraft carrier Vikrant in the Arabian Sea. While the vessel deployed before the Kashmir attack, it is now doing loops in the area as a possible contingency, posited Damien Symon, a geo-intelligence researcher for The Intel Lab intelligence consultancy.
We don’t know for certain whether India will conduct airstrikes or not.
“There are a variety of military options, short of a full-blown war, on the table,” the Times of India (TOI) reported, citing a senior military official. “It’s for the political leadership to take the final call. If there is a go-ahead, then the retaliatory strikes will be at a time and place of our choosing.”
India and Pakistan are not equally matched.
If India really starts pummeling Pakistan, would the Pakistanis feel a need to use their nukes?
Let’s hope that we never find out.
Meanwhile, President Trump continues to warn the world about what will happen if the Iranians do not give up their nuclear enrichment program…
During an interview with Time magazine, Trump was asked whether he was “worried” Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu would drag the U.S. into a war.
“No,” said the president, who continued his answer after the questioner attempted to change topics.
“[H]e may go into a war. But we’re not getting dragged in.”
Did that mean the U.S. will stay out if Israel goes into Iran?
“No, I didn’t say that,” Trump said. “You asked if he’d [Netanyahu] drag me in, like I’d go in unwillingly. No, I may go in very willingly if we can’t get a deal. If we don’t make a deal, I’ll be leading the pack.”
There will be yet another round of negotiations this weekend.
Let us hope that they go well.
Lastly, I wanted to mention the fact that a top Russian general was just assassinated not too far from Moscow…
Russian Major General Yaroslav Moskalik was killed in an IED bomb blast in the Moscow region on Friday.
This coincided with the planned peace talks between US Special Envoy Steve Witkoff and Vladimir Putin in the Kremlin.
According to Russia Today Moskalik was the Deputy Chief of Main Operations Directorate of General Staff of Russian Armed Forces.
Every time we take a step toward peace, something like this happens.
Ultimately, I don’t think that there is going to be peace in Ukraine.
The Russians and the Ukrainians are not even in the same universe when it comes to what a suitable peace agreement would look like, and neither side seems too keen on making significant compromises at this stage.
The United States imported 438 billion dollars worth of goods from China in 2024. All of a sudden, most of that trade is being cut off. Tariffs on Chinese goods are now so high that it no longer makes economic sense for Chinese companies to export products to us, and it no longer makes economic sense for U.S. companies to import products from China. As a result, container bookings are absolutely plummeting, and retail CEOs are warning that store shelves all over America will “soon be empty”. Yes, retailers will attempt to find replacement items from other sources when it is possible to do so. But in many cases, things that are made in China are not made anywhere else. As retailers run through existing inventory levels, shortages will begin to emerge.
I do not believe that we should have ever started trading with China.
And I would love to see a day in the future when we no longer trade with China.
But at this moment we are deeply, deeply dependent on China.
Nobody can deny this.
Our economy literally cannot function normally without Chinese imports, and now most of those imports will no longer be coming across the ocean.
Container shipping between China and the United States faces unprecedented disruption following the implementation of new Trump administration tariffs on U.S. imports from China, with industry leaders warning of potential widespread supply chain impacts and economic consequences that could rival the pandemic.
According to Ryan Peterson, Founder and CEO of Flexport, ocean container bookings from China to the United States have plummeted by over 60% in just three weeks since the new tariffs took effect. The dramatic decline follows the introduction of reciprocal tariffs that went into effect on April 9, setting rates at 145% for China and 10% for all other origin points.

The White House has put itself and the country in a bad situation but doesn’t realize it yet.
Around April 10th China to USA trade shut down.
It takes ~30 days for containers to go from China to LA.
45 to Houston by sea, 45 to Chicago by train.
55 to New York by sea.
That means that there are no economic effects of what was done on April 10th until about May 10th.
Around that time (it’s already started to happen) trucking work is going to dry up. Warehouses will start doing layoffs because no labor is needed to unload containers and some products will be out of stock, reducing the need for shipping labor.
All this will start in the Los Angeles area.
After about 2 weeks, it’ll start hitting Chicago and Houston.
Let’s say the White House, after 3 weeks, changes its mind, on May 31st.
“This isn’t working out like we thought it would. Tariffs back to 0.”
Let’s say China says “bygones be bygones, we’ll go back to how things were”.
Let’s say every factory in China that got screwed by their orders being cancelled says the same thing “no problem, we’ll make and ship”.
The problem is, even under the most favorable conditions of China and the factories restarting economic ties as though nothing happened, it will be at least another 30 days before economic activity is revived.
And that’s just in LA.
In Chicago/Houston, you’ll need to wait another 45 days.
New York, at that point, will still be getting containers from before April 10th, they will then have 50 days (May 31 minus April 10) of zero economic activity at the ports, in trucking of Chinese goods, in warehousing.
The whole situation is a bit like lockdowns. Once you shut down, it takes a long time to get economic activity back to where it was, if you ever can.
And again, this assumes, that China and its factories, which make things you can’t buy elsewhere, will start right back up again as though nothing happened, which is unlikely.
It’s almost like we’re speeding towards a brick wall but the driver of the car doesn’t see it yet.
By the time he does, it’ll be too late to hit the brakes.
I could not have said it better myself.
When we finally hit that brick wall, millions of people are going to be extremely angry.
Many are suggesting that we should just start making stuff here, and I agree with that.
But the reality of the matter is that it takes a long time to construct new factories.
They originally expected to start production in the second half of 2025.
They are now forecasting 2027.
The biggest toy company in the world needed 6 years to make in America.
We can’t wait for years until new factories are built, because we are going to be in the middle of a full-blown crisis just months from now.
For example, what are you going to do if you need to get your vehicle repaired and the parts that you need have tripled in price or are no longer available at all?…
“From brake pads and batteries to bumpers and sensors, many of the parts used to repair and maintain vehicles are imported,” Cars.com editor-in-chief Jenni Newman told FOX Business. “If those parts are hit with tariffs, suppliers are expected to pass on the extra cost to repair shops and dealership service departments.”
Not only would this drive up repair bills for consumers, but it could also cause longer wait times if parts become harder to get or inventory is scaled back, Newman said.
There are thousands upon thousands of supply chains that will be disrupted by ultra-high tariffs on Chinese imports.
Unless we want to have a full-blown meltdown, we need to reach a deal with China.
Unfortunately, the Chinese just publicly stated that no negotiations with the U.S. are currently happening…
China is not negotiating with the U.S. over tariffs, Beijing declared Thursday, despite President Donald Trump recently suggesting the 145% tax on its imports could be reduced “substantially.”
Ministry of Commerce spokesman He Yadong said, “Any claims about the progress of China-U.S. trade negotiations are groundless as trying to catch the wind and have no factual basis,” according to the Associated Press.
“The unilateral tariff increase measures were initiated by the United States. If the United States really wants to solve the problem, it should face up to the rational voices of the international community and all parties at home, completely cancel all unilateral tariff measures against China, and find ways to resolve differences through equal dialogue,” he continued.
We should have never allowed ourselves to become so dependent on China.
Sometimes I feel like tearing my hair out, because decades of very foolish decisions have put us into this position.
Now we desperately need Chinese imports, but most of them won’t be coming to us for the foreseeable future, and President Trump just told Glenn Beck that he feels like he is holding all the cards and doesn’t need to negotiate…
‘I don’t have to negotiate. I don’t have to negotiate. I’m talking to people out of respect, but I don’t have to,’ Trump told the former Fox News host.
‘So we’re this giant store that people want to come in and buy from, we’re the United States. We have the richest consumers, etcetera, etcetera, right?’ the president continued.
Trump said he was currently negotiating with ’70 different countries.’
‘We’re negotiating, we’re showing great respect, but in the end, we may make deals, but either that or I just set a price and I say “here’s what you’re going to pay for the privilege of servicing the United States of America,”‘ Trump said.
There are some people out there that are insisting that I am overstating the seriousness of the crisis that we are facing.
Okay, let’s see what happens.
If a deal with China can be reached quickly, it is quite likely that the damage will be minimized.
I would be thrilled if that actually happens.
But if a deal with China cannot be reached quickly, we are going to experience a tremendous amount of pain.
Container traffic across the Pacific Ocean has already fallen dramatically, and the clock is ticking…
This is a very difficult time for real estate agents and homeowners that are trying to sell their homes. As I have documented below, sales of previously-owned homes in the United States just fell to the lowest level that we have seen during the month of March since 2009. Needless to say, in March 2009 we were in the middle of the Great Recession. Meanwhile, the number of unsold homes that are currently on the market just continues to pile up. Of course the collapse of U.S. home sales that we are now witnessing did not actually begin during the Trump administration.
In 2024, while Joe Biden was still in the White House, sales of previously-owned homes hit the lowest level in almost three decades…
The final figures for home sales last year are in, and the story is quite grim: 2024 was the slowest year for existing home sales in nearly three decades.
Existing-home sales last year totaled 4.06 million, the lowest on an annual basis since 1995, according to the National Association of REALTORS® on Friday.
A big factor behind the slowdown was elevated mortgage rates, which spent most of the year above 6.5%.
In 1995, 266 million people were living in the United States.
Today, 340 million people are living in the United States.
So on a per capita basis, things were even worse last year than they were in 1995.
And now it appears that our problems are accelerating. The number of previously-owned homes sold in March 2025 was even lower than it was in March 2024. In fact, we haven’t seen a March this bad since 2009…
Higher mortgage rates and concern over the broader economy are making for a weak start to the all-important spring housing market.
Sales of previously owned homes in March fell 5.9% from February to 4.02 million units on a seasonally adjusted annualized basis, according to the National Association of Realtors. That’s the slowest March sales pace since 2009.
The housing market is in a depressed state.
Nobody can deny that.
Sales are falling even though the number of homes being listed for sale has been rising at a very brisk rate…
Sales fell despite a sharp increase in available listings. At the end of March, there were 1.33 million units for sale, an increase of nearly 20% from March 2024.
The number of homes on the market in the Sunshine State rose 23% year over year to a record high in January amid a decrease in homebuying, an influx of newly built homes for sale, intensifying natural disasters, and surging insurance costs and HOA fees.
Florida ended January with 172,209 homes for sale—the highest inventory of any month in records dating back to 2012. That’s up 22.7% from a year earlier.
When supply is very high but demand is very low, that is inevitably going to force prices down.
And we are already starting to see condo prices decline precipitously in some areas of the country…
Condos are often the first and biggest movers in local housing markets. Prices exploded in many of them over the three years between mid-2019 and the peak in mid-2022, by 60% such as in Austin, TX; by 70% such as in Tampa, FL, and Chula Vista, San Diego County, CA; or by 80% such as in Mesa, AZ, and Lakeland, FL.
But this absurdity is now coming unglued, and prices have begun spiraling down. In Austin, which is on the forefront of this movement, prices have already given up nearly two-thirds of the 60% three-year gain. People who bought at the top in mid-2022 are 22% underwater. People who bought in mid-2019 are still sitting on a 20% gain that is shrinking.
Unless the Federal Reserve cuts interest rates, it is likely that home prices will decline significantly.
But of course the truth is that the Federal Reserve may soon be forced to start cutting rates because economic conditions are really starting to deteriorate.
Once rates go down, home prices could start rising again.
In this economic environment, there is just so much uncertainty.
But what we do know is that much of the population is really struggling right now.
In fact, a brand new survey that was just released found that approximately two-fifths of all U.S. adults under the age of 30 are barely getting by financially…
Young Americans are sounding the alarm about their finances, with roughly 2 in 5 people under 30 saying they’re either “struggling to make ends meet” or “getting by with limited security.”
That’s according to a survey of 2,096 adults ages 18 to 29, conducted by Harvard’s Institute of Politics between March 14 and 25, 2025. The survey found that among that age group, financial insecurity most affected women, Hispanics and those without college degrees.
Times are tough.

Jack in the Box said Wednesday it is planning to close between 150 to 200 underperforming restaurants and could sell the Del Taco brand it acquired three years ago.
The San Diego-based chain, which currently operates and franchises 2,200 restaurants across 22 states, primarily on the West coast and Midwest, said it plans to close 80 to 120 locations by the end of 2025, with the “remaining underperforming restaurants closing thereafter based on respective franchise agreement termination dates.”
I wish that I had better news for you.
I really do.
But what we are facing is undeniable.
When the Federal Reserve started to raise interest rates, I warned that it would be absolutely devastating for the housing market.
And that is exactly what has transpired. March 2025 was the worst March for home sales since the Great Recession.
Hopefully the Federal Reserve will cut interest rates. If they choose to do so, I will cheer.
But for now, we have got a real mess on our hands.

“The Elsinore fault is one of the major risks in Southern California,” Jones said.
As I keep warning, it is just a matter of time before a colossal earthquake absolutely devastates the California coast.

#5 In Alaska, a major eruption of Mount Spurr could be coming very soon…
Scientists with the Alaska Volcano Observatory have said that Mount Spurr, a volcano located roughly 80 miles from Anchorage, is likely to erupt in the coming weeks or months based on elevated seismic activity.
In the event of an eruption, scientists said, it’s highly possible ash will make its way to Anchorage, causing issues with air quality and possibly disrupting travel.
While Anchorage lies outside the immediate impact zone of Mount Spurr, previous eruptions in 1953 and 1992 sent ash clouds over the city, coating it in about a quarter inch of ash.
A similar event today could result in widespread ashfall across the region, the AVO warned.
Volcanoes all over the “Ring of Fire” have been roaring back to life. I believe that it is just a matter of time before volcanoes in Washington and Oregon start waking up too.
#6 The New York Times is reporting that President Trump actually blocked an Israeli attack on Iran that was originally planned for May. Apparently, Trump wanted to see if a deal could be negotiated with the Iranians instead. The following is what Zero Hedge had to say about the New York Times report…
President Donald Trump rejected an Israeli plan to attack Iran with US military support, which was pitched with a timeline of as soon as next month, in favor of seeking diplomacy with Tehran, The New York Times reported late Wednesday.
The report indicated Israel was seeking significant American support for preemptive strikes on Iran’s nuclear facilities, with aerial bombings backing up Israeli commando raids to destroy the Iranian sites. The viewpoint from Tel Aviv is that such a massive operation, envisioned to take a week, would not be successful without direct US assistance.
It was during Prime Minister Benjamin Netanayhu’s visit to the White House earlier this month that Trump informed the Israeli leader that instead he would pursue new diplomatic talks with Iran.
This is good news.
But the Iranians do not seem to be in any mood to compromise.
At the moment, they are insisting that they must be allowed to continue to enrich uranium.
That is not going to be acceptable to Israel, and I don’t think that it is going to be acceptable to the Trump administration either.
We shall see how negotiations go this weekend, but it appears that a major conflict with Iran is coming sooner or later.

Why Everyone Should OwnOne
In my opinion, too many survival articles begin by pointing out that water is the number one survival priority, but it’s not.
I’m NOT saying that clean water isn’t essential for survival (it is), but it’s secondary to air.
Access to clean, abundant, breathable air trumps water every single time. Why? Because while it’s well-established, you can only survive 3 days without water (less time in intense heat).
Most of us take clean, breathable air for granted…which can be a deadly mistake. But you might argue that “air won’t just vanish,” and you’d be right. Our entire atmosphere won’t instantly vanish. However, just because air is breathable doesn’t mean it’s not deadly.
It’s possible to breathe highly toxic chemically infused air. The sort of air where even a few small gulps and you’re headed for an early grave.
Of course, this depends on the toxin involved and its intensity. But your ultimate fate will be set in stone for the worst-case scenarios.
What sucks in this situation is knowingly being forced to breathe the toxins in. Because you can only hold your breath for so long. But each breath brings you closer to your premature demise.
In other words, “damned if you do, damned if you don’t.”

How Gas Masks Work
It’s simply a small, portable, personal air-purifying device. It’s an invention with one exceptionally important task – providing detoxified “clean” air.
Similar in concept to a portable water filter that cleans water before drinking.
The key difference being you can avoid drinking water for longer than 3 minutes! And they’ve been around a lot longer than you realize.
The ancient Greeks made the first ones. They were crude versions using sponges. A few centuries later, Iraqi brothers produced a rough prototype of a 19th-century version.
Soldiers have used them, miners, doctors, and civilians. But always to achieve the same end goal: clean air.
But these were very primitive. They didn’t work well, at least not enough to ensure survival. But to be fair, chemical and nuclear warfare was still yet to be invented.
The first practical gas mask was created by a Brit named Edward Harrison in 1916, shortly after the invention of chemical warfare during WWI.
Since then, it has morphed into a symbol of the apocalyptic. But as menacing as they may look, they save lives.
That is why you should add one to your survival gear in your home or your bug-out bag. But they do require research, preparation, and upkeep. And a little bit of know-how to buy the right one.

2 Types Of Gas Masks | Pros & Cons
The first step to purchasing is to determine which style of mask is right for you. And you do this by deciding what level of personal protection you desire.
Let’s start with the style first; you have 2 options:
1. Air Purifying Respirator
You could buy an air-purifying respirator if you want a down-n-dirty, quick-n-easy, cheap solution. But take note; these respirators only cover your nose and your mouth.
While they technically purify the air, they expose your eyes. And yes, eyeballs are extremely vulnerable to chemical damage and biological infection. And to be blunt, you need your eyesight if you want any chance to survive a real chemical attack.
Stumbling around in the dark during an attack is a recipe for failure.
2. Full Face Mask Mask
The second option is a full-face mask.
As you probably already guessed, this version includes eye protection.You normally think of these when someone says “gas mask.” They include a large filter below the mouth area and cover the entire face.
Your eyes are inside this mask, and you can see out of glass or plastic plates.

Important Full-Face Options
The next most important decision is what type of respirator you want with your full-face gas mask. Here we have 2 basic options to choose from:
1. Air Purifying Respirator
The first option is called an “air-purifying respirator.” These are the most affordable and simple full-face options.
The filter canisters on these units are replaceable and screwed directly into the mask. It uses the power of your lungs to pull and push air through the filter. If you can get and keep a good seal, this setup works fairly well.
You see, air pressure always takes the path of least resistance. You are creating air pressure as you pull air in and out with your lungs.
Now, if you have a good seal around the outside, the path of least resistance is the filter itself, which you want. However, if the seal breaks or fails for any reason, the path of least resistance is no longer through the filter; it’s through the breach.
The breach route will have less resistance than the filtered route (hence the “path of least resistance). And that’s the one big disadvantage to this type: any prolonged leak makes it 100% ineffective.
If there is a gap between your chin and the mask, outside air will bypass the filter and enter through the leak. And you may die.
So make sure that seal is airtight, and you’ll be fine.
Notes of caution:
If you have a beard, you’ll have to shave it off because facial hair makes these masks difficult to seal.
Or, you can try what this guy in the video below did with his beard. He uses Vaseline to create a seal without saving off his beard.

2) Be careful what tasks you perform while in the mask.
You don’t want to accidentally run into anything that could break the air seal. So try not to be clumsy or perform unnecessary acrobatics.
The bottom line is:
Even if you initially establish a good seal, you must diligently KEEP a good seal.
2. SCBA Masks
The second variety of masks is the most effective and the heaviest. It is the type of mask firefighters use to breathe in smoke-filled rooms. It is called the “self-contained breathing apparatus system” (SCBA).
These masks require carrying around a tank full of air (usually strapped to your back). But they provide the highest level of protection and security of any respirators on the market.
The tanks contain air and keep pumping it into the mask constantly.
This design always keeps a positive pressure in the mask, eliminating the need for a perfect seal. Why? Because of physics.
Air moves in one direction only, from high pressure to low pressure.
One simple way to understand this concept is by thinking about a flat tire. An inflated tire contains pressurized air.
Or another way to explain it; it has more pressure in the tire than the surrounding atmosphere.
Hence, when you get a flat tire, the air moves from its higher-pressure environment (in the tire) to the lower-pressure atmosphere (out of the tire), never the other way around.
So a gas mask filled with pressurized air will leak out, never in.
A leak is not dangerous as long as it maintains a relatively higher air pressure than the surrounding atmosphere.
Ok, enough science for one day…
But the SCBA setup is not without its trade-offs: for one, it’s bulky, heavy, and unwieldy in all circumstances.
SCBA equipment is also a challenge to store in small spaces. It takes up serious square footage in a regular-sized closet.
Also, most tanks only contain about 30-60 minutes of fresh oxygen anyway, and you can only refill them using special equipment. So as you can see, there are upsides and downsides to each of your options.
You must determine what kind of chemical or biological threat you plan to face, how much you are willing to spend, and how protected you want to be.
The Bottom line:
Not all setups are equal. Some are glorified surgical masks, while others are only used by serious professionals in dangerous circumstances.
Now, I could cop out and leave it at “Just do your own research.” But that’s why you’re here, looking for advice.
So here’s my advice:
Invest in a full-face air-purifying respirator, practice putting it on, and get a good seal. And if you have a large and gnarly beard and refuse to part ways with it, good luck with that…

How A Gas Mask Filter Works
The common full-face air-purifying respirator uses filter canisters to keep the air you breathe poison and disease-free.
There are three general types of filter designs:
Particle Filtration
Chemical absorption
A chemical reaction to neutralize other chemicals
Particle Filtration
Particle filtration is the most common and the simplest of these three options (and it’s also the oldest).
Like the ancient Greeks who held sponges up to their faces, particle filters block foreign substances from entering your lungs.
Recall when you’ve pulled your shirt over your nose to block a particularly repulsive smell.
You were employing a crude version of particle filtration.
Very fine particulate filters are helpful against biological threats like anthrax. However, these filters have a limited life.
They can only hold so much particulate matter before they clog, so you have to replace them after every 20-24 hours of use (alwaysverify these numbers on any filter you intend to purchase).
If you are trying to prepare for a chemical threat, then you will have to take a different approach. While particle filtration is an effective system, it does little to purify the air of chemical agents.
You will need to use an activated charcoal system for chemical absorption.
Most deadly chemical warfare agents come in the form of gaseous vapors (not particulates) and will slip straight through your particle filtration filter system and kill you.
If you’re looking for a filter for nuclear fallout, read the fine print and make sure the filter specifically lists radioactive particles.
Not if you’re trying not to breathe household chemicals or a neurotoxin, your best bet is activated charcoal.
Certain chemical agents aren’t chemically attracted to carbon and will pass straight through (such assodium and nitrates).
This is to say that activated charcoal absorbs some chemical agents while ignoring others.
Chemicals that could be as equally dangerous.
The final type of filter option uses chemical reactions to neutralize. This is a very effective way of defending against one specific chemical agent.
Still, you must know exactly what you are up against so the respirator is loaded with the right counteractive chemical.
For instance, during chlorine attacks in WWI, soldiers would be fitted with masks containing sodium thiosulfate, which would react with and neutralize the chlorine in the air.
When you buy these filters, they are color-coded to indicate which type of gas or acid they work to diffuse.
Unfortunately, this type of gas mask is ineffective for most people because it’s impossible to predict what kind of chemical will be present in any attack.
Filters Have A Shelf Life
No matter what filter you choose, you must invest time and money to maintain them. No filter lasts forever; most only last about 20-24 hours of use. So every time you use your mask, you will probably have to replace the filter afterward.
They also have a limited shelf life, so you will have to check up on them occasionally and replace them once they expire (even if you did not get the chance to use them yet).
Don’t use any filters that were made during WWII or early. Back then, asbestos was considered the ideal filter medium.
We all know that breathing asbestos is highly dangerous and will lead to asbestosis and lung cancer. You’ve been warned.

Final Thoughts
Here’s the rub: when it comes to any gas mask, a littlelate can be too late.
Even the most expensive, advanced, top-of-the-line ones won’t save you if you can’t deploy them fast.
If you put your mask on after realizing a life-threatening chemical is in the air, you’re probably already dead. Real life doesn’t happen like in the movies. Every second of respiratory exposure, biological or chemical, is closer to death.
It’s also impossible to tell when or where you’ll need it.
Sure, soldiers and police often get a heads-up. That way, they can deploy their masks quickly. Civilians don’t get such notice. We are at work, in our cars, or often hanging out with friends.
And should word of a chemical/biological attack reach you while you’re away from home, you’re going to wish you’d taken it with you.
The best way to avoid this is to buy several and a set of filters for each. Then store them in various places where you often spend time. Keep one in your car, one at the office, one at the house, one in your get-home bag, and one in your bug-out bag.
If there is a place you spend a lot of time, stash a gas mask nearby.

Three human beings in China, two children and one adult, have been infected with the H9N2 bird flu, also known as the avian influenza. These new cases bring China’s H9N2 total for the year to five. In 2024, the country reported 11 cases.
The University of Minnesota’s CIDRAPstated that one of the patients is a 7-year-old girl from Henan province whose symptoms began on February 11th. Another infection also involved a child, a 5-year-old boy from Guangxi province who became ill on March 3rd.
This version of the bird flu virus is known to circulate in poultry in China and other parts of Asia. Sporadic human infections continue to be reported, mainly from China. Infections are typically reported in children who usually experience mild infections. However, some people can become severely ill.
The bird flu fear-mongering has recently leveled off, and we can only hope that this means the panic never took hold and we can put this outbreak behind us. Or it could mean that the war mongering is going to tick up, too.
While human cases in the U.S. appear to have ended, several outbreaks in domestic cats persist, according to most mainstream media outlets.
Meghan F. Davis, a veterinarian and epidemiologist with Johns Hopkins University, said that cats are very susceptible to the bird flu. “Cats are not part of, for example, the surveillance structures that we have in place for people,” she said, according to a report at STAT News. “We don’t invest nearly as much in veterinary research, whether it’s for clinical or public health benefit, as we do in human, which kind of makes some sense.”

The U.S. dollar hit a three year low against other global currencies last week, and on Wednesday the crash of the dollar resumed. Overall, the U.S. dollar is now down about 9 percent over the past 3 months. The currency that has benefitted the most is the Swiss franc. Signs of growing dissatisfaction with the dollar can be seen in the breakdown of its longstanding correlation with other markets.
Having the primary reserve currency of the world has been a major advantage for us, but there are other currencies that are widely used in global trade.

But in recent weeks we have witnessed a “major sell-off” in bonds at the same time that stocks have been going down…
During the financial crisis of 2008, investors around the world bought more Treasury bonds, confident that despite the crash, this was the safest place in the world for their money. That is how things usually go: The bond market moves in the opposite direction as stocks.
This time, as the stock market took a nosedive, an alarming trend emerged. Investors were dumping their U.S. government bonds. The yield on the 10-year Treasury jumped from 4% to 4.5% in a week, a huge jump for the bond market that indicates a major sell-off. Investors were putting their money into euros, yen, pounds, and gold instead of into dollars.
We haven’t seen a financial crisis like this in a long time.
And we only have a limited amount of time to turn this around before things start getting really messy.
If this new crisis begins to spiral out of control, there will be an immense amount of pain, and we could witness a collapse of confidence in the U.S. dollar.
One expert is warning that the U.S. dollar has now been put on a “watch list”…
“It is too early to call if we are seeing the demise of the dollar, but the dollar has certainly been put on a ‘watch list,’” says Kevin Gallagher, director of the Global Development Policy Center at Boston University. For the rest of the world, “The U.S. is no longer innocent until proven guilty, but the opposite.”
Sadly, most Americans simply do not understand how important the strength of the dollar is.
Our primary export is currency.
For decades, we have been exchanging the world’s dominant currency for goods manufactured in poorer nations all over the planet.
If the U.S. dollar becomes much weaker, our standard of living will go way down.
Unfortunately, it appears that there are those in positions of power that want to see the value of the U.S. dollar drop.
For Miran, tariffs and moving away from a strong dollar could have “the broadest ramifications of any policies in decades, fundamentally reshaping the global trade and financial systems”.
Miran’s essay argues that a strong dollar makes US exports less competitive and imports cheaper, while handicapping American manufacturers as it discourages investing in building factories in the United States.
“The deep unhappiness with the prevailing economic order is rooted in persistent overvaluation of the dollar and asymmetric trade conditions,” Miran wrote.
It is true that if the dollar is substantially devalued our trade deficit will be reduced.
But in the process our standard of living will be greatly diminished.
This would particularly be true for those on the bottom levels of the economic food chain.
And if another global reserve currency ultimately takes the place of the U.S. dollar, that would be absolutely catastrophic for our standard of living.
At this stage in our history, the strength of the United States is dependent upon the strength of our currency to a very large degree.
If the dollar crashes and burns, so will our society as a whole.
