Hamas, Israel, and the Collapse of the Fiat Global Order

This article was originally published by Tho Bishop at The Mises Institute.

This past weekend, the world witnessed absolute barbarism play out as Hamas agents brutally targeted Israeli civilians. The State of Israel, suffering from a historic failure to protect its residents, has predictably responded with major military operations in the Gaza strip. The result is a growing regional conflict fueled by historic feuds beyond the scale of traditional geopolitical considerations.

Add to this the ongoing war in Ukraine, a less-talked-about conflict between Armenia and Azerbaijan, and the threat of renewed fighting between Kosovo and Serbia, and the world is witnessing the breakdown of a global order established by modern assumptions that are being exposed.

In the later part of his career, Murray Rothbard identified the Whig theory of history as one of the most dangerous intellectual traps in existence. The general belief that society is in a constant march toward progress, that newer ideas reflect a natural upgrade over past wisdom, has been accepted by broad segments of the modern intellectual class. As Hans-Hermann Hoppe has critiqued, this theory underlies a number of modern assumptions about the world.

Whig hubris has resulted in a global order that has sowed the seeds of barbarism. The triumph of fiat money has created an economic system that enriches states and the politically connected at the expense of the rest of society. Technocratic public health initiatives created authoritarian states in the face of a global pandemic. Politically driven climate hysteria has prompted a policy agenda that is gambling away human well-being on utopian promises of a “green energy” revolution.

The deadliest of these false assumptions has been the modern “rules-based international order” guided by post–Cold War US hegemony. The triumph of “liberal democracy” over the Soviet Union fueled the hubris of Washington and its allies—their belief that the world could be shaped to fit into comfortable models, that concerns over ethnicity, religion, and the past could be transformed by the power of economics and intellectual change.

By this thinking, Afghanistan and Iraq could be transformed with just the right mix of warfare and pocket constitutions. Russian ambitions could be blunted with the right mix of regional defense treaties and economic relations. China would adopt Western liberalism with enough global trade.

Underlying these assumptions of US power has been the triumph of the dollar, which has financed the American empire and become the foundation of the global economy. With US debt as the most reliable financial asset in the world, America has enjoyed the privilege of incredible soft power in dealing with major nations, allowing its military focus to be directed at nonstate terrorist groups and “rogue state” allies.

This belief in a global order backed by American economic and military power, limited only by political will, has influenced how other global actors have operated. Foreign lobbies have dedicated vast resources to Washington. While the influence of the Israel lobby is the most visible, with politicians vocally pledging their allegiance to the Jewish state, since 2016 nations like Qatar, Saudi Arabia, China, Japan, South Korea, and others have also invested hundreds of millions of dollars in influencing American policy.

Assumptions of American support have undoubtedly influenced nations’ strategic decisions about their own security. Ukraine surrendered Soviet nuclear weapons in exchange for Western security promises, which for a long time may have served as a potent deterrent to a Russian invasion. The government of post–World War II Japan demilitarized in exchange for its own security guarantees from the United States. With rising concerns over China, Washington and Tokyo have pivoted toward rearmament.

Decisions made by the State of Israel have also been guided by false assumptions, such as the belief that militant movements would be easier to delegitimize internationally than other political actors seeking to create a Palestinian state. As the Wall Street Journal reported in 2009:

“Hamas, to my great regret, is Israel’s creation,” says Mr. Cohen, a Tunisian-born Jew who worked in Gaza for more than two decades. Responsible for religious affairs in the region until 1994, Mr. Cohen watched the Islamist movement take shape, muscle aside secular Palestinian rivals and then morph into what is today Hamas, a militant group that is sworn to Israel’s destruction.

Instead of trying to curb Gaza’s Islamists from the outset, says Mr. Cohen, Israel for years tolerated and, in some cases, encouraged them as a counterweight to the secular nationalists of the Palestine Liberation Organization and its dominant faction, Yasser Arafat’s Fatah.

A look at Israel’s decades-long dealings with Palestinian radicals—including some little-known attempts to cooperate with the Islamists—reveals a catalog of unintended and often perilous consequences. Time and again, Israel’s efforts to find a pliant Palestinian partner that is both credible with Palestinians and willing to eschew violence, have backfired. Would-be partners have turned into foes or lost the support of their people.

Israel’s experience echoes that of the U.S., which, during the Cold War, looked to Islamists as a useful ally against communism. Anti-Soviet forces backed by America after Moscow’s 1979 invasion of Afghanistan later mutated into al Qaeda.

As Israeli officials have acknowledged, American military support, which became a staple of US foreign-aid military strategy following the Six Days War in 1967, has influenced Israel’s aims for Palestinian relations.

Similarly, as the WSJ article mentions, the belief that nonstate Islamic groups would be easier to control than functional states has been an ongoing and consistent blind spot for Washington. The toppling of Saddam Hussein and Muammar Gaddafi created power vacuums in the Middle East that were filled by the Islamic State and other jihadist groups.

Recognizing these government blunders of the past should not be confused with providing moral cover for the horrific consequences suffered by the citizens of these states. Understanding the cause and effects of state action on innocent people is important in shaping future decisions so as to avoid such disasters in the future.

The unfortunate reality is that the global order—one built on the assumption that American blood and treasure can single-handedly maintain stability and peace—is under severe stress. The poor foundation is beginning to crack. In September 2001, the US debt reached $3.4 trillion. In 2023, it stands at over $34 trillion. The Pentagon’s virtually nonexistent oversight of the American military budget has contributed to gross malinvestment and misallocation of resources. In modern conflict, million-dollar weapons have been destroyed by cheap drones, not a small concern as US aircraft carriers head to the Middle East.

The breakdown of the old order also means that we should expect new behavior from states adapting to the times. Israel, for example, has ended previous campaigns against Hamas following international pressure resulting from civilian casualties, which has shaped how the Islamic group positions its military and arms. Will similar condemnation come following the most recent attack? Will Israel care? What paths exist for deescalation?

Additionally, the hubris created by the presumption of dollar dominance, which has factored in the weaponization of the dollar, has sparked a blowback of its own. The BRICS nations have recently called for alternatives to the dollar for foreign trade, and even the Bank of England has raised concerns about the power and influence the dollar gives Washington. Concerns about China and supply chain disruptions due to both covid and the Ukraine-Russia war have sparked renewed concerns over how close international trade relations should be, which could further impact economic globalization.

Domestically, Western nations are also being stressed by another false assumption of modern states—the deemphasis of a common ethnic, religious, and cultural background as a building block of society relative to immigration policy. Large rallies in support of the “decolonization” of Israel, fueled by social justice ideologies that equate the cause of Hamas with the perceived victimization of other minority groups, have sparked new concerns about social stability and order. How modern nations, whose most shared experience is becoming a common tax collector, will fare in a time of crisis will continue to be a potent political question going forward, as witnessed by the growing populist movements in Europe.

History shows that periods of crisis can radically transform the global order. Following World War II, Ludwig von Mises called for a global embrace of sound money, government restraint, and cultural conservatism. Unfortunately, the West embraced the ideologies of inflationism, interventionism, and cultural leftism instead. Without a correction, Mises warned, assumptions of ever-improving material well-being would be found wanting.

As he wrote in Planning for Freedom, “It is not true that human conditions must always improve, and that a relapse into very unsatisfactory modes of life, penury and barbarism is impossible.”

The recent attacks in Israel are a horrific reminder of how lightly guarded civilization is from savagery.

After Israel Sends Troops Into Gaza, Watch For Hezbollah, Iran, Syria And The U.S. To All Get Involved In The Great Middle East War

“Escalation” will be a word that is used a lot in the coming days.  Once Israel sends troops into Gaza, it is going to trigger a series of events that nobody is going to be able to control.  But there is no turning back now.  When Hamas decided to rape women, behead children and kidnap the elderly, they made any other course of action impossible.  Israel must go into Gaza.  And as I write this article, we are witnessing the largest mobilization of Israelis troops that we have seen since the Yom Kippur War

Tens of thousands of Israeli troops are on the move as the country prepares for a possible ground operation in response to the surprise attack launched by Hamas early Saturday morning.

More than 300,000 troops have been called up, the largest mobilization on short notice in Israel’s history, according to Israel Defense Forces (IDF) spokesperson Lt. Col. Jonathan Conricus. Those in the south are readying ahead of the forthcoming operation in Gaza and defending the border. Jeeps, tanks and other large military vehicles have been seen heading south as well

Along the northern border with Lebanon, the IDF has deployed tens of thousands of troops, including reservists and regular units, Conricus said. Tanks have also been spotted in the area.

Once Israeli troops enter Gaza, the Great Middle East War will have begun.

Even now, Israeli aircraft are “razing entire districts” inside Gaza in preparation for the coming invasion…

Israeli air strikes hammered Gaza on Tuesday, razing entire districts and filling morgues with dead Palestinians as Israel took revenge for the Hamas assaults that have triggered some of the worst blood-letting in 75 years of conflict.

Across the barrier wall enclosing the coastal enclave, Israeli soldiers collected the last of Israel’s dead four days after Hamas gunmen rampaged through towns, killing hundreds of people in the deadliest Palestinian militant attack in Israel’s history.

In the past, Israel has tried to hit Hamas really hard in order to deter future attacks.

But now the mission is to utterly destroy Hamas.

At this point, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu is characterizing this fight as a battle between the civilized world and barbarism

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has announced his intent to wage an unprecedented military offensive against Hamas in Gaza, a war that he has characterized as a civilizational clash.

“And just as the forces of civilization united to defeat ISIS, the forces of civilization must support Israel in defeating Hamas,” Netanyahu said on Monday. “In fighting Hamas, Israel is not only fighting for its own people. It is fighting for every country that stands against barbarism. Israel will win this war, and when Israel wins, the entire civilized world wins.”

There is no way that Israel can “win this war” without going into Gaza.

And that is precisely what is about to happen.

In fact, it is being reported that the Israeli government has already informed the Egyptian government that it is gearing up for “a months-long ground campaign in Gaza”

Israel is readying for a months-long ground campaign in Gaza, an Egyptian official tells The Times of Israel, saying that this message has been passed along from Jerusalem to Cairo.

The Egyptian official says Israel has thus far dismissed Cairo’s efforts to mediate any sort of de-escalation, indicating that it wants to deal a knock-out blow to Hamas before entertaining the idea of a ceasefire.

So when Israel is systematically destroying Hamas, do you think that there is any chance that Hezbollah will just sit on the sidelines and watch it happen?

No way.

In fact, a Hamas official has stated that Hezbollah “will join the battle” if Gaza is invaded…

A senior Hamas official warned Israel on Tuesday that Iran and Lebanese Hezbollah “will join the battle if Gaza is subjected to a war of annihilation,” according to the Associated Press.

That is why the Israelis are sending so many military resources to the northern border.

They know that this will be a two front war

On the third day of war between Hamas and Israel, residents of northern Israel were rushing to evacuate towns near the Lebanese border and buying essentials in preparation for a possible escalation.

As in much of the country, an eerie silence prevailed throughout the north, broken only by the rain showers periodically breaking over the area.

Driving up from central Israel, there was relatively little traffic on what is usually one of Israel’s busiest highways, Highway 6. On both sides of the road, tanks and military bulldozers on carriers headed to the southern and northern border.

But it won’t end there.

As I mentioned yesterday, Israel has reportedly warned Hezbollah that Damascus will be destroyed if Hezbollah tries to send troops into Israel…

Israel gives clear warning to Hezbollah:

If Hezbollah joins the war, the IDF will completely destroy Damascus and will directly target the Iran-backed Syrian dictator Bashar al-Assad. Moreover, US warships will support Israel in this war. This message was delivered by Israel via France.

So that would bring Syria into the war.

And I think that it is a very ominous sign that Israel and Syria are already exchanging artillery fire

The IDF said it was responding to shells fired from Syria into Israel on Tuesday night.

Some of the shells most likely landed in open fields in Israel’s Golan Heights, the military added.

The IDF responded with artillery and mortar fire toward the source of the Syrian shelling.

If Israel ends up fighting Hamas, Hezbollah and Syria all at the same time, do you think that Iran will be able to stay out of the war?

The Iranians seem to fear direct military conflict, but it seems unlikely that they would refuse to fight if all of their allies in the region were getting pummeled by the Israelis.

And leaders from the two nations have already been exchanging some very harsh words

“A senior Israeli government source said Monday that Israel has indications that Iran pushed Hamas into carrying out its massive infiltration and deadly assault, and that Iran was also pushing Hezbollah to be ready for conflict with Israel,” the Times of Israel reported.

Khamenei predicted that Israeli military operations would backfire. “The calculation of the illegitimate regime and its supporters in this regard is also wrong,” he said. “The rulers and decision-makers of the Zionist regime and their supporters should know that these actions will bring a greater disaster upon them, and the Palestinian people, with a firmer determination, will slap their hideous faces harder in response to these crimes.”

Of course the moment that Iran launches missiles at Israel, the U.S. will enter the conflict.

On Tuesday, Joe Biden made it very clear that the U.S. is standing with Israel in this fight…

President Joe Biden said the U.S. stands with Israel after Hamas’ brutal massacre in Israel, condemning the attack as “pure, unadulterated evil” and pledging to support Israel with military aid as war erupts in the Middle East.

“At this moment, we must be crystal clear: We stand with Israel,” Biden said Tuesday in remarks from the White House State Dining Room. “We will make sure Israel has what it needs to take care of its citizens, defend itself and respond to this attack. There’s no justification for terrorism. There’s no excuse.”

And Biden also confirmed that some of the hostages that are being held by Hamas are U.S. citizens

Biden said Israel has a “right to respond and indeed has a duty to respond” four days after Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu declared war on Hamas.

“There are moments in this life − I mean this literally − when pure unadulterated evil is unleashed in this world,” Biden said. “The people of Israel lived through one such moment this weekend.”

An estimated 100 to 150 people in Israel were kidnapped by Hamas militants and are being held captive in Gaza. That includes some Americans, Biden confirmed for the first time.

Hamas made a huge strategic mistake when it decided to take U.S. citizens hostage.

If they were smart, they would return those U.S. citizens immediately.

But they aren’t going to do that.

So now Joe Biden will have some decisions to make.

Will the U.S. also get involved in the conflict?

One retired general seems to think so

The US is likely to directly intervene with air and naval strikes if Israel’s existence is threatened, Ret. Gen. Barry McCaffrey said.

Speaking on Sunday on MSNBC’s “Weekends with Alex Witt,” the four-star US Army general described how such an escalation likely would only occur if Israel’s Middle Eastern neighbors became heavily involved.

“The other shoe we’re waiting to see if it drops is, will Hezbollah intervene out of Lebanon with their 100,000 some odd rockets? Will the West Bank ignite? And what will the Syrians and the Egyptians do?” McCaffrey said.

“I would suggest to you our support of Israel will be absolute, and if we see Syrian military intervention, active Iranian military intervention, we’ll go to war,” McCaffrey added.

For a long time, I have been warning that a great war would be coming to the Middle East.

But it has arrived a bit sooner than I thought.

Once Israeli troops move into Gaza, global events will start to move at a pace that will be absolutely breathtaking.

And at this moment it appears that the beginning of a ground operation could potentially be just hours away.

When Hamas Decided To Kill And Abuse Women, Children And The Elderly, They Made Peace Impossible

Hamas has crossed lines that can never be uncrossed, and they have nobody to blame but themselves for what is about to happen.  Throughout human history, it has always been acceptable for soldiers to attack other soldiers.  But when they launched their surprise attack against Israel, Hamas showed no restraint whatsoever.  Even though they knew that the whole world would be watching, they mercilessly killed and abused women, children and the elderly.  And now footage has been released of them beheading captives.  From this point forward, Hamas will be considered the moral equivalent of ISIS, and that is because they have behaved just like ISIS did.

There is a code of honor that all combatants are supposed to abide by everywhere in the world.

When a battle is raging, women and children are supposed to be left out of it.

But Hamas had no interest in following such rules.  In fact, it is being reported that Israeli women were “raped next to the dead bodies of their friends”

A survivor of the rave massacre – in which over 260 young revellers at a party near the Gaza Strip were gunned down by Hamas terrorists – has said that women were “raped next to the dead bodies of their friends”.

Speaking to US website Tablet, the survivor said that several of the rape victims appeared to have been executed later, while others were taken to Gaza.

Another survivor returned to the scene later in the day to look for his friends spoke, of seeing cold and mutilated bodies, mainly of young women. He said he saw scantily clad corpses, many of whom appeared to have been shot at point-blank.

Over the past few days, countless videos of the atrocities that they committed have been shared all over social media.

Did they not understand how the rest of the world would respond to their behavior?

Maybe they are scoring points with their radical Muslim friends, but everyone else is absolutely sickened by what they have seen.

And to make matters worse, Hamas has decided to actually start beheading soldiers that they captured…

In a statement, Mossad said: “Hamas has released footage of them beheading captured soldiers. We will not share it, but the world needs to know their depravity exceeds that of ISIS. And we have been telling you all for years. May the precious souls of our men and women be in our hearts forever.”

When I first read that, I was hoping that it wasn’t true.

But it is.

The beheadings have been confirmed and the videos are all over social media.

I would not suggest watching any of them.

On Monday, Hamas announced that from now on an Israeli civilian will be executed every time the IDF conducts another bombing in Gaza without any pre-warning…

Hamas’ armed wing said on Monday it will begin executing an Israeli civilian captive in return for any new Israeli bombing of civilian houses without pre-warning.

Abu Obaida, spokesperson for Hamas’ armed wing, the IQB, said they have been acting in accordance with Islamic instructions by keeping Israeli captives safe.

He blamed the intended move on Israel’s stepped-up bombing and killing of civilians inside their homes in air strikes without warning them.

I am sure that Hamas would like for the bombing to stop.

At this point, the IDF is literally bombing the living daylights out of Gaza.

But there is no going back now.

The Israelis are absolutely livid, and they have decided to impose a very strict siege on Gaza for the foreseeable future

Now, Israeli Defence Minister Yoav Gallant said authorities will cut electricity to the Gaza Strip and block the entry of food and fuel, declaring his troops are ‘fighting barbaric [terrorists] and will respond accordingly’.

The measures will essentially enact siege-like conditions that will see the millions of Palestinians living in the tiny, fenced-in region begin to starve as they are attacked from the skies.

Of course this is just in preparation for the ground invasion that is coming.

So many people are going to die in the days ahead.

It would be hard to overstate the anger that we are witnessing in Israel right now.

The Israeli population is absolutely furious, and that fury is being reflected in the public statements of their leaders.

For example, here is how Israeli President Isaac Herzog has responded to the Hamas attack

Israeli President Isaac Herzog condemned the horrifying reality of the Hamas terror attack, writing on X, “Not since the Holocaust have so many Jews been killed on one day.

“And not since the Holocaust have we witnessed scenes of Jewish women and children, grandparents, even Holocaust survivors being herded into trucks and taken into captivity. Hamas has imported, adopted and replicated the savagery of ISIS. Entering civilian homes on a holy day and murdering in cold blood whole families, young and old, violating and burning bodies, beating and torturing their innocent victims.”

And Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu is pledging that what the Israeli military is about to do “will echo for generations”

He said: “We have not seen such atrocities from ISIS. Children were executed and entire families were exterminated by Arab Terrorists.

“There were atrocities that I will not describe here. Hamas is ISIS and we will destroy it as the world defeated ISIS.

“At the end of the war, all our enemies will know it was a terrible mistake to attack Israel.

“What we will do to our enemy over the next few days will echo for generations. Any place from which Hamas operates will turn into rubble.”

Needless to say, it isn’t just the Israelis that are seething with anger.

Here in the United States, there are many that want to see Hamas get absolutely destroyed.  In his most recent article, Victor Davis Hanson expressed what he is feeling at this moment…

Apparently, the Palestinians in their now ISIS role also thought their descent into even greater barbarity, rarely witnessed in even the most savage parts of the world, would shock Israelis into assuming some sort of collective fetal position, with hands over their ears screaming, “make all these demons just go away.”

If so, Hamas sorely miscalculated.

The sheer horror of their methods, and the cowardice shown by focusing on teen-aged girls and children rather than the IDF, will have the exact opposite effect, both in Israel and worldwide.

Israel now knows there is no living with a precivilizational Hamas. It must destroy it, permanently block off Gaza from itself, and adopt a strategy of chronic disproportionate response from now on out.

In such a change of strategy, Israel will have the backing of most of the civilized world and its own people, since there is no other choice once Hamas has adopted its campaign of death. We will likely see things in the next month that no one has anticipated, and yet the Israeli response will be in the eyes of most of the world long overdue.

Of course what Hamas has done has also emboldened radical Muslims that are living in major cities all over the western world.

There have been lots of very large pro-Hamas rallies, and the rhetoric that is being spewed at some of them is absolutely frightening.  The following is what one Muslim speaker had to say to a crowd that had assembled in New York City

In New York City, a Muslim man made a threat to all non-believers.

“We’re done being tortured and hurt and judged. This is the correct religion. This is the religion that all of humanity needs to be — Islam.”

“We will not stop until it enters every home. So I want you to repeat after me. I want to hear it in every single district. It should tremble Brooklyn should hear it. The Bronx should hear it. Queens should hear it. Say it — There is no God worthy of worship except Allah. The God of Jesus, the God of Moses, the God of Abraham, and the God of the last and final prophet, Muhammed…”

Thanks to the very foolish policies of our leaders, there are vast numbers of radical Muslims now living in our communities.

And if this conflict between Hamas and Israel does evolve into the great Middle East war that many of us have been anticipating, there will be violence in cities all over the planet.

October 7th, 2023 was a day when everything changed.

From this point forward our world will be a much different place, and we will soon see death and destruction on a scale that most people can’t even imagine right now.

The Luth-AR MCA-22 Chassis: Righteous Rimfire Ruger 10/22

@media (max-width:576px) { .read-more-content { height: 530em; } }

Randy Luth put the first rail on an AR-15 rifle. He also showed the planet how to hunt with a Modern Sporting Rifle. Randy is one of the most quietly influential people in the modern gun world. In addition to being a gun-bodging savant, he is also a really nice guy. Not to mention, his company, Luth-AR, regularly delivers excellent products, like the MCA-22 chassis for the Ruger 10/22.

The Luth-AR MCA-22 Chassis

Luth-AR offers a bewildering range of gun parts and accessories. His custom barrels, receivers, fire controls, forearms, and sundry widgets reliably make good guns better. With the introduction of the new Modular Chassis Assembly-22 (MCA-22), Randy’s company is delving into the rimfire world.

The holy melding of the Ruger 10/22 and the Luth-AR MCA-22 chassis creates something greater than the sum of its parts.

Practical Tactical

The chiseled CAG operator settled in behind his customized precision sniper rig as the rest of the world faded away. Pervasive bugs, Helmand’s legendary penetrating heat, and the discomfort of a thousand annoying little things disappeared in the face of impeccable personal discipline and a zillion hours behind the gun. Through his refined tactical glass, the man saw the face of evil incarnate.

Abdul Muhammad Abdus Salam absentmindedly straightened his bejeweled eye patch. Three gorgeous Sports Illustrated swimsuit models wept openly in the background. Chained as they were to the bumper of Abdus Salam’s jingle truck, the trio of smoking hot women rightly believed all hope was lost.

The operator was fuzzy on how exactly three voluptuous American girls had fallen into the nefarious clutches of the planet’s most bloodthirsty ISIS terrorist. Regardless, he settled his reticle on the fat man’s greasy chest. Measured his breathing. And took up the slack in his trigger.

Soon, he and the grateful coeds would be winging it back to safety in the belly of an MH47G Chinook. It was just another day in the life of a genuine American hero.

Who am I kidding? In all of human history, only one other guy and I have ever claimed to have rescued gorgeous girls from the clutches of an evil supervillain. And we’re both pathological liars.

Sadly, that very seldom happens out here in the real world. Particularly to 56-year-old gun writers who haven’t been in really good shape since the Clinton administration. However, if ever you need to practice your girl-saving sniper skills without breaking the bank in the process, the Luth-AR MCA-22 is your go-to iron.

Foundations

The Ruger 10/22 is the most popular rimfire rifle in the world. Developed in 1964 by Bill Ruger and Harry Sefried, the 10/22 hit the coveted sweet spot. Simple, reliable, versatile, and cool. The 10/22 started many a shooter down the path toward competition, recreation, hunting or military service. As of 2015, there had already been seven million copies produced.

One of the reasons for the 10/22’s popularity is its price. Bill and Harry designed the weapon for manufacturability. Ruger churns these things out in such quantity that consumers can take advantage of an economy of scale.

The first copies cost $54.50 in 1965. That would be about $523 in today’s money. Nowadays, however, innovative mass production techniques mean the MSRP for the base model rifle is only $369.

The mystical combination of reasonable price, accuracy, and availability has placed this nifty little rifle in countless gun safes, bedroom closets, and pickup trucks.

The 10/22 is a cool rifle, but out of the box, it is really just a plinker. It features a basic walnut stock that is one size fits most, and the feature set is fairly pedestrian. The stock version of the 10/22 is the Ford Fiesta of guns. However, the humble 10/22 is capable of so much more.

Why The MCA-22?

In the past, the artisans at Luth-AR have used the centerfire AR rifle as their artistic medium. I’ve built up a couple of black rifles using Luth-AR parts and found them to be well above your standard fare. The ergonomics are well-reasoned, and the engineering sublime. They took this same compulsion for perfection and poured it into the MCA-22.

The Luth-AR MCA-22 chassis is a seamless fit for any standard Ruger 10/22 action. It accommodates both standard and heavy barrel profiles.

The MCA-22 was developed in concert with Roth Performance. Mark Roth made his name designing accessories and aftermarket upgrades for shotguns. There is a lot of common mechanical DNA between these two broad efforts.

The MCA-22 is a drop-in fit for standard Ruger 10/22 actions and compatible clones. Likewise, the stock includes a removable polymer insert to accommodate standard barrels. With the insert removed, the stock will rock heavy bull barrels or integrally-suppressed units so long as the overall diameter is 0.92 inches or less.

The Ruger 10/22 action is a modular, adaptable foundation for a wide variety of capable rimfire platforms.

The forearm insert pops out easily as needed, and the stock is formed from high-strength, glass-filled nylon. In addition, the ancillary bits are 6061 aluminum or steel. The stock alone weighs 2.09 pounds and optimally interfaces with the human form.

Fitting the MCA-22 to You

The goose-neck pistol grip includes bilateral palm swells for use by either hand. The cheekpiece is readily adjustable for comb height and includes serrations so you can keep track of its precise location. Correspondingly, the stock and pistol grip are nicely checkered.

The cheekpiece offers .75 inches worth of travel fore and aft and another 2 inches up and down. Similarly, the butt pad will adjust an inch vertically. The length of pull runs from 11.25 to 15.75 inches. All adjustments are positive and incremental. Everything is held in place via generous thumbscrews, so no tools are required for a perfect fit.

The buttstock is easily adjustable without any tools and can be done in the field.

Accessory slots are M-Lok standard. There are five underneath for a grip or bipod and one on each side for lights or lasers. The front of the forearm comes pre-drilled with a dome sling stud locator hole should you wish to finish drilling and thread it.

Assembly is a piece of cake. It took me maybe five minutes to seat my action.

Accessorizing the 10/22 and MCA-22 Chassis

The Ruger 10/22 comes from the factory threaded for an included scope mount. I already had my favorite stainless steel 10/22 outfitted with an inexpensive but functional Bushnell scope.

The Luth-AR MCA-22 chassis is a classy piece of kit. Fiber-reinforced polymer maximizes strength and minimizes weight.

This rig has accounted for quite a few tree rats and water moccasins around my rural homestead already. To complete the package, I needed a folding bipod and proper muzzle snuffer.

The bipod came from Magpul. An M-Lok mount makes it easy to mount and remove. Legs readily adjust for command height. There are 50 degrees of tilt and 40 degrees of pan. The whole shebang is built from rugged reinforced polymer, 6061 T-6 anodized aluminum, and stainless steel.

The can is a SilencerCo Switchback 22. Rated for full-auto fire from .22 Short up to 5.7x28mm centerfire, the Switchback 22 is one of the most versatile small-caliber cans ever contrived.

The SilencerCo Switchback 22 is arguably the most versatile rimfire can in the world. It can be optimized for a variety of host weapons.

By mixing and matching end caps and tubes, the operator can configure the Switchback 22 in three different lengths. Flipping the distal bit optimizes the can for either rifles or pistols. Nobody does it better.

Trigger Time On the Luth-AR MCA-22

With the MCA-22 installed and running, the resulting rimfire rifle is the plinker that thinks it’s a sniper rig. Once properly configured, the furniture fits your anatomy like your favorite set of broken-in boxers (you know, the ones that your wife won’t let you wear around the house because of all the sagging elastic and gaping holes).

Stretching out on an old Army sleeping mat behind it is the perfect way to kill a lazy Saturday afternoon.

The Luth-AR MCA-22 chassis lets you custom-fit your rifle to your particular body habitus.

The gun is obviously only as accurate as the host action, trigger, and cartridge. It still remains a .22 rimfire at heart. However, it still shoots delightfully straight, and it’s just so darn comfortable.

So, what’s it actually good for? Fully accessorized, the Luth-AR MCA-22 Chassis is suitable for Steel Challenge competition, Practical Rimfire matches, casual recreational shooting, and light hunting.

The rifle is light enough to pack yet sufficiently stable to shoot straight. Settling in behind this rascal to ventilate empty Coke cans will remind you of just what attracted you to this quirky little sport in the first place.

Fully accessorized, the rifle is suitable for steel challenge competition, practical rimfire matches, casual recreational shooting and light hunting.

The Luth-AR MCA-22 chassis will set you back $190. That’s pretty reasonable for the top-flight design, engineering, and materials science that goes into it. Admittedly, once you spring for the action, drop a c-note on the bipod, fit up some glass, and thread a Switchback 22 on the muzzle, you’ve dumped a not-insubstantial chunk of change on this project.

However, doing so incrementally spreads out the pain, and the end result is just about the coolest homebuilt precision .22 platform money can buy. Pulling this thing tight and sending a few downrange will indeed let your imagination get the best of you.

Americans Are Rapidly Losing “Spending Power”

In the face of inflation and and a skyrocketing national debt, the average everyday American is rapidly watching their spending power evaporate. The mainstream media is reporting that the number of Americans with declining incomes is increasing.

A much higher cost of living is taking its toll on the average American just trying to get by. But even those with six-figure incomes are starting to feel the pinch of inflation and the devaluation of the U.S. dollar.

BRICS Continues Plans To Ditch The U.S. Dollar

Government Spending Continues To Fuel Inflation

The number of United States adults with declining incomes has soared in recent weeks in a sign of a weakening labor market, Bloomberg reported on Wednesday. U.S. inflation-adjusted household income fell in 2022 by the most in over a decade, highlighting the toll of a higher cost of living and the expiration of pandemic-era programs. Additionally, the share of households facing a drop in their incomes rose from 10.7% in August to 11.8% last month, the outlet said, citing a survey of the U.S. labor market by data intelligence company Morning Consult.

About 20% of adults polled, who earn $100,000 or more annually, reported that they expected their incomes to drop in the next four weeks.

The share of employees who reported working over 35 hours fell to 46.7%, representing a 12% drop from September 2022. The decline marked the lowest level since the spring of 2021, signaling a slowdown in US business activity, the survey revealed. The most cited reason by respondents was soft business conditions.

According to a report by RT, the income and poverty data released by the U.S. Census last month showed how deeply the country’s economic conditions were affected by the COVID-19 crisis and the government’s response to it. The measure of child poverty more than doubled following the expiry of pandemic-era child tax credits last year amid the worst inflation in 40 years, which has undermined household spending power.

The rulers are coming for every bit of wealth the slave class generates.

We Are Witnessing One Of The Greatest Financial Market Crashes In History Right Now

History is starting to repeat itself.  In 2008, bond prices crashed before stock prices did.  Here in 2023, bond prices are crashing again.  In fact, we are currently witnessing one of the greatest financial crashes in U.S. history at this moment.  Of course most Americans have absolutely no idea that this is happening.  Most Americans don’t know anything about the bond crash that is causing a tremendous amount of fear in the financial community right now, and that is because the big news networks aren’t talking about it too much.  But it is serious.  Since the peak of the market, 10 year bonds are down 46 percent and 30 year bonds are down 53 percent

Losses on longer-dated Treasuries are beginning to rival some of the most notorious market meltdowns in US history.

Bonds maturing in 10 years or more have slumped 46% since peaking in March 2020, according to data compiled by Bloomberg. That’s just shy of the 49% plunge in US stocks in the aftermath of the dot-com bust at the turn of the century. The rout in 30-year bonds has been even worse, tumbling 53%, nearing the 57% slump in equities during the depths of the financial crisis.

We haven’t seen anything like this in many years.

As bond yields go up, bond prices go down.

And the last time the yield on 10 year bonds rose to this level was “just before the 2008 financial crisis”

At the center of the storm is the 10-year Treasury yield, one of the most influential numbers in finance. The yield, which represents borrowing costs for issuers of bonds, has climbed steadily in recent weeks and reached 4.8% on Tuesday, a level last seen just before the 2008 financial crisis.

We are witnessing the exact same pattern that we witnessed in 2008 and during other financial panics.

Bonds crash first, and then stocks crash later.

I have warned over and over again that high interest rates were going to have an absolutely devastating impact on our system, and now it is staring to happen.

Our banks are going to be in so much trouble.  They were already sitting on hundreds of billons of dollars in unrealized losses, and the spike in bond yields in recent weeks has pushed that number even higher.

Meanwhile, mortgage rates continue to soar

Freddie Mac’s latest Primary Mortgage Market Survey released Thursday shows the average rate for the benchmark 30-year fixed-rate mortgage jumped to 7.49%, up from 7.31% last week and from 6.66% a year ago.

The rate for a 15-year mortgage also climbed, averaging 6.78% after coming in last week at 6.72%. One year ago, the rate on a 15-year fixed note averaged 5.9%.

These high rates are absolutely paralyzing the housing market.

Millions of potential buyers have been forced to the sidelines, because high rates have made housing “unaffordable” in 99 percent of all U.S. counties

Housing prices are growing more unaffordable even with the astronomical rise in mortgage rates, putting ownership out of reach for millions of Americans.

That’s according to a new report published by real estate data provider ATTOM, which examined 572 U.S. counties and determined that median home prices in 99% of those areas are out of reach for the average income earner, who makes about $71,214 annually.

“The latest trend continues a two-year pattern of homeownership getting more and more difficult for average U.S. wage earners,” the report said.

The home prices that we are seeing today are absolutely insane.

Recently, a 565 square foot house in West Hollywood “sold for a whopping $1.1 million”

A miniature home in Los Angeles’ West Hollywood neighborhood recently sold for a whopping $1.1 million despite only offering 565 square feet inside.

The 1924 Craftsman-bungalow – settled on a 2.240 square foot lot – is tucked away behind a row of hedges and located just across the street from a fire station.

I couldn’t imagine paying that much for a glorified closet.

But apparently someone out there had money to burn.

Of course most homes are not selling at this point.

In fact, sales of existing homes have fallen by about a third over the past year.

So something has got to give.

Either the Federal Reserve has got to dramatically reduce interest rates or home prices have got to fall.

And the Federal Reserve is not planning to reduce interest rates any time soon.

Unfortunately, Fed officials keep talking about the possibility of raising them even higher.

So a lot more pain is coming, and the American people are getting restless.

If you can believe it, a recent Rasmussen survey discovered that more than half of all U.S. adults believe that we will experience “another Great Depression” within the next few years…

Despite claims by President Joe Biden about the strength of America’s economy, most Americans still think we’re headed toward another Great Depression.

The latest Rasmussen Reports national telephone and online survey finds that 52% of American Adults believe it is likely that, over the next few years, the United States will enter a 1930s-like depression, including 21% who say a major depression is Very Likely. Thirty-six percent (36%) don’t think another Great Depression is likely over the next few years, including 11% who say it’s Not At All Likely. Another 11% are not sure.

Even though they may not understand the specifics, most Americans can feel that something has gone horribly wrong.

But things didn’t have to turn out this way.

You see, the truth is that we didn’t learn our lessons from the last financial crisis.

Instead of fixing the system, we created bubbles that were even bigger.

Now that bonds have crashed, it is just a matter of time before stocks crash too.

And we are headed for an economic meltdown of epic proportions.

The months and years ahead are going to be incredibly challenging.

So I hope that you have been preparing for difficult times, because the nightmare that many of us have been warning about has already begun.

Exactly How Much Extra Food Should I Be Stockpiling?

Jack holding up a bin full of freezed dried food while looking straight into the cameraToday, I’m going to give you the definite answer to a critical question.

You see, I’ve been helping people prepare since 2013…

And THIS is one of the biggest questions I get asked…

How Much Food Should I Be Stockpiling?

So, let’s roll up our sleeves and figure this out once and for all!

How Much Emergency Food Do You Currently Have?

Calculating How Long Your Food Stockpile Will Last

To get the total number of days your stockpile will last, you need to take the:

Total calories in your stockpile ÷ Calories your family needs per day

Let’s start with the top half of the equation.

Calculating How Many Calories You Have

Ideally, your pantry is well organized, making the process much faster.

But if it’s not…perhaps this will allow you to do so…?!?

Because you’re about to take inventory. Yup. Just like ALL successful retail businesses do regularly.

Now you may ask, “Should I count EVERYTHING” on my shelves? If it’s shelf stable and you replace it regularly, then YES, count it.

Sure, some items will fluctuate as you use them up and then buy more.

But a snapshot of the shelf-stable calories in your pantry is “close enough” …

Obviously count all freeze-dried foods, MREs, canned meats, and #10 Cans.

Also, don’t count ANY calories in your refrigerator or freezer.

The only exception is if you have a robust backup energy plan or you are already living off the grid.

A robust backup energy plan means having a Power station (or a generator with a few weeks of fuel).

Otherwise, I DON’T count your refrigerated and frozen goods.

I used a simple spreadsheet for this to help make the calculations easy. Plus, I can sort and filter as needed later with a spreadsheet.

Jacks' Food Stockpile Spreadsheet Image

Start by making a few columns titled:

  1. Food – Brand
  2. Number of items (pouches, bags, containers)
  3. Servings Per Container
  4. Calories per Serving
  5. Total Calories

Once you fill out an entire row with that info, multiply the “number of items” by the “servings per container” by the “calories per serving.”

This will give you the number of calories you have in your inventory for THAT specific food item.

Now, you need to be careful here. I added the Brand to the first column because not ALL brands use the same servings/calorie info.

For example, separate Brands of canned beans may seem identical but often are not.

The difference can add up, especially if you have a lot of green beans…

Now, IF the foods are the same, AND the info per serving is the same, you can put them in the same line.

Otherwise, if any of those numbers are different, add a new line item.

Now keep going and inventory everything that makes sense for you.

Once done, you should add up all the calories.

And now you know exactly how much non-perishable food you currently have.

This calorie number may seem massive if you’ve got a decent-sized stockpile.

Perhaps even a few hundred thousand calories, like 358,753 or something like that.

WOW. Massive, right? Not so fast…

Having your total calories may seem like an important number to know, but it’s not all that helpful…yet.

Why? Because it’s relative to the size of your family, right?

For example, 358,753 calories is a stellar emergency food stockpile for a retired couple of 2.

But what about a growing family of 5? Not so much.

That’s why we need to figure out how many calories YOUR family consumes each day…

How Many Calories Does Your Family Need Per Day?

At first, this may seem like a difficult task, but with the proper tools, it’s easy.

You must figure out how many replacement calories each family member needs daily.

  1. And this is NOT the same for males and females.
  2. It’s also NOT the same for babies, kids, young adults, adults, or mature adults.
  3. And it’s NOT the same for those who live an active or sedentary lifestyle.

You need to consider ALL 3 of these variables to make an educated guess.

The good news is I created a simple chart to do just THAT.

You can use this chart to determine your sex, age, and activity level for each family member.

Then add up each number.

The TOTAL is how many calories you’re family needs per day.

Now, THIS is a very good number to know!

This is the number you need to figure out how long your food stockpile will last.

Your Final Calculation

Take your total calories and divide by your family’s daily calorie requirement.

Viola! THAT new number is a very good approximation of How Long Your Current Food Stockpile Will Last.

Perhaps your number is 58.63 days?

That means you’re very close to having 2 months’ worth of food in your emergency stockpile.

Now, of course, you may be able to ration those calories a bit in a longer-term emergency.

But I don’t recommend “rationing” your calculation.

Why? Because I’d rather underestimate the duration of my stockpile by a few days and NOT the other way around.

Said another way, I’d rather be pleasantly surprised…

You now know how long you have before starvation begins after the grocery store shelves go bare.

We can now finally circle back around to the original question:

How Much Emergency Food Should I Have?

Ok, are you ready for YOUR answer? Do you have a pen and paper ready?

A minimum of 2 weeks and a maximum of 1 year…

I can hear you booing at me already…You were probably hoping for something a bit more specific, weren’t you…

Like most things, everyone’s situation, risk tolerance, and resources vary.

I can hardly give a more specific answer for everyone.

But I CAN do better than THAT.

So let’s break things down into a few different categories. Only then can we zero in on something more meaningful.

Here are a few “how much emergency food should I stockpile” categories:

  1. Those ONLY Worry About High-Frequency, Short Term Natural Disasters
  2. Those Who Worry About Medium Term Disasters (natural and/or manmade)
  3. Those Worried About an Extensive Lawless, SHTF Type Event…

Hurricane Damage Street Blocked

1. Those Worried About Shorter-Term Natural Disasters

Some folks are mainly concerned with short-term natural disasters.

US Natural Disaster Map

They don’t accept that the world is becoming less stable and more uncertain by the day.

They deny the risk of major societal upheavals is rising.

That’s NOT me, but hey, perhaps that’s you.

Well, in this case, you need to get 2 weeks’ worth of survival food in place.

That’s the bare minimum, in my opinion. Any less, and you’re not living up to your primary adult responsibilities.

I recommend 2 weeks as the first target for 2 reasons:

  1. It’s meaningful – gives you a basic level of resiliency
  2. It’s achievable – everyone can hit this mark in a short period of time

Sure, some folks will scoff at only 2 weeks of emergency food.

But it’s actually a solid start, good for MOST likely emergencies we’ll all encounter year in and year out.

And it’s way more resilient than MOST people…

53% of Americans admit to having less than 3 days’ worth of nonperishable food and water.

That’s gross negligence!

Sorry but if you have only 2 or 3 days of emergency food, you’re completely fragile.

You’re dependent on handouts in a crisis.

This is unacceptable and irresponsible.

↓ The Surprising Reason People Live A Fragile Life

So, get 2 weeks, and then I’ll stop the name-calling…

And perhaps I can encourage you to shoot for a month.

A month is so much more resilient than 2 weeks.

At a month’s worth, you’ll be able to ride out 99.9% of natural disasters.

And you’ll also have a bit of extra resiliency to civil unrest, chaos, famines, etc.

traffic chaos

2. Those Worried About Medium-Term SHTF Disasters

Ok, this category is for those who don’t feel like 1 month is enough but also think a SHTF-type event way worse than the recent pandemic is zero…

I mean, the more widespread and the longer the emergency crisis, the LESS likely it is to occur, right? It’s simple statistics.

Yet, I believe there’s a greater than zero chance we do have a SHTF event in our lifetimes.

Why? Because the world is getting more vulnerable as:

  1. technology advances at a breakneck pace
  2. the world becomes more and more interconnected.

So, what’s “reasonable” for someone who sits between the two extremes?

I recommend somewhere between 3 and 6 months.

That solid supply of calories will keep you fed for ALL but the most unlikely doomsday events.

Nuclear Attack Bomb Explosion

3. Those Worried About a Worst Case-SHTF Type Event…

Well, here we are…the resilient few.

Those of us who think there’s a non-zero chance of life as we know it coming to an end in our lifetimes.

↓ America’s Biggest Threats In 2023 (and Beyond)

We tend to see our emergency food stockpiles as cheap self-insurance.

A policy you own that lasts up to 25 or 30 years if done right.

So why not go big and sleep really well at night, even as the world continues to crumble?

To enter this realm, you’ll be targeting at least 1’ year’s worth of emergency food…

Now perhaps we’re NOT there yet, but that’s ok; 1 year is an excellent goal.

You can do more if you’d like, heck, 2 years if you’re really dedicated.

But after you hit 1 year, your time and energy are better spent elsewhere.

At that point, I recommend focusing on skills to bring more calories into your storerooms.

I’m talking about:

  • Canning, Gardening & Seed Saving
  • Foraging and Gathering
  • Hunting & Fishing
  • Farming & Raising Farm Animals (chickens, rabbits, goats, etc.)
  • Aquaponics

These more advanced prepping techniques.

Why? Because they not only give you a runway should grocery stores go bare.

They extend your calorie runway into the future.

If all you do is stockpile (without adding any new calories), then your time to starvation is on a countdown clock.

You keep adding calories back into your stockpiles.

This helps to extend that time to starvation even longer into the future.

If you ever get to more calories in than out, you’ll never starve, right?

Final Thoughts

Everyone reading this needs to build a stockpile that will last at least 2 weeks. no excuses!

Once you get there, I recommend you keep building for up to 1 month.

And if you want even more protection, try to get to the 3 – 6 months window.

Or perhaps you want lots of food security.

A nice long runway to give you ample time to let the post-modern world sort itself out – then go with 1 year.

After that, move to advanced skills such as farming, raising animals, aquaponics, etc.

We Have Reached The Terminal Phase Of The Greatest Debt Spiral In The History Of The Human Race

If you are going to go out, you might as well do it with a bang.  At the beginning of June, our national debt was sitting at $31,467,639,287,894.39.  Today, it has risen to $33,442,148,619,617.43.  That means that we have added almost two trillion dollars to the national debt in just three months.  It is the largest single debt in the entire history of our planet, and it will never be paid off.  Our debt spiral has reached a terminal phase, and all we can do now is prolong the agony.  If we keep taking on more debt at an exponential rate, we may be able to extend our seemingly endless party for a little while longer.  As for the bright future that our children and grandchildren were supposed to have, we destroyed that a long time ago, and so it doesn’t really matter what we do now.

What our politicians are doing to us is truly a crime against humanity.

And I am not just talking about the United States.  All over the world, politicians have been on the greatest debt binge in the history of the human race, and for quite a few years it seemed like they were getting away with it.

But now interest rates are rising and there is great turmoil in the bond markets.  The following comes from CNN

A slump in government bonds around the world has pushed up the cost of some nations’ debt to levels not seen in more than a decade. That’s bad news for governments in the red but also for the wallets of millions of mortgage borrowers, stock investors and businesses.

The sell-off has been fueled by expectations among investors that the world’s major central banks will keep interest rates “higher for longer” to bring inflation down to their targets.

It works like this: Governments looking to raise cash for public services and investments issue bonds. A bond provides a way to borrow money from investors for a set length of time, with the obligation to make regular interest payments.

In recent weeks, bond yields have reached very alarming levels.

If this continues, governments all over the world will soon be facing enormous problems

When official interest rates rise, so do investors’ expectations for returns on bonds, known as yields. This creates an incentive for investors to sell the bonds they currently hold and buy newly issued ones that offer higher interest payments. Selling bonds reduces prices. So, in short, when yields rise, bond prices fall.

And yields have most definitely been rising: The yield on 30-year US government bonds, also known as Treasuries, hit 5% on Tuesday for the first time since 2007. In the United Kingdom, the yield on 30-year bonds also reached 5% this week, the highest level in more than two decades.

Yields on German long-dated bonds are back to levels last seen on the eve of the eurozone debt crisis in 2011. Yields on Italy’s 10-year bonds hit 5% on Wednesday, the highest level since 2012, when that crisis was in full swing.

There is no way out of this mess now.

If we would have acted responsibly all along, we would have gotten a much different outcome.

But at this point our fate is pretty much sealed.

Of course our politicians never intended to change course.  In fact, they continue to spend money like drunken sailors.

As Zero Hedge has aptly noted, the U.S. government recently added 275 billion dollars to the national debt in a single day…

The US added – checks notes – $275 billion in debt in, uh, ONE DAY

Total US debt is now $33.442 trillion, hit $33 trillion just 2 weeks ago, and on pace to rise by $1 trillion in 1 month.

What makes all of this even more frustrating is that they aren’t even spending the money efficiently.

And in many instances, it is being wasted on extremely frivolous things

Federal officials have been criticized after splashing $3.3 billion on swanky new office furniture during the pandemic, when almost all staff worked from home.

The egregious spending habits of the US government included almost $250,000 on solar-powered picnic tables for the CDC, and $120,000 on plush Ethan Allen leather chairs.

We are borrowing and spending money at an exponential pace, and we all know how this is going to end.

It is going to end with the U.S. dollar becoming worth little more than toilet paper.

This is a point that author Robert Kiyosaki made very eloquently during a recent interview

Robert Kiyosaki, renowned author of the phenomenal personal finance book “Rich Dad, Poor Dad,” shared a piece of his mind on how to decentralize from the fiat currency in these scary times of a broken banking system. According to him, the dollar has been losing its purchasing power and not long from now, it would just be worth less than “toilet paper.”

During his appearance on the recent episode “Decentralize.TV” hosted by Mike Adams and Todd Pitner, Kiyosaki pointed out how the lack of financial education in the United States blinds the people and even President Joe Biden’s administration in tackling the current economic downturn. “Just recently they raised the debt ceiling again… and because our schools have no financial education, no idea of credit rating, our debt increased by $1.8 trillion. The United States via Fitch Rating services downgraded the U.S. debt from AAA to AA-plus. We are on a collision course for disaster.”

    It is true.

We really are on a “collision course” with disaster, but most Americans don’t realize what is happening.

Most Americans seem to believe that there will never be any serious consequences for all the borrowing and spending that we have been doing.

And that is because most Americans don’t understand basic economics.

When your debt rises much faster than your income does for an extended period of time, it is always going to result in pain.

    Every single time.

If you have ever found yourself drowning in debt, you know exactly what I am talking about.

Well, now our entire country is drowning in debt, and our politicians are adding hundreds of billions more to that debt every single month.

This is not going to end well, and that should be obvious to everyone.

For the moment, our politicians are doing their best to keep the debt spiral humming, but the clock is ticking and time is quickly running out…

Government Control: Why World-Wide Tyranny Must Rise

Today I’ve got something alarming to share…

I’m convinced that Governments around the world will continue to strip individual freedoms and extort more control (i.e. Tyranny & The Threat Of Violence) in the coming years…

And it’s NOT necessarily due globalist elites, or a cabal of puppet masters (though they’re happy to help)…

Nope, it’s inevitable due to the Internet.

The Internet is an existential threat to Governments.

If allowed to remain free…the Internet destroys Governments ironfisted control of the narrative.

And such a threat cannot be allowed.

It must be put down like a rabid dog, if control is to be maintained…

Yes, this is a BOLD claim, but we only need to look at history for proof.

This narrative battle HAS happened before…

And we are now seeing it play out again in OUR lifetimes…

    Introduction To Decentralization

The central idea starts with this FACT:

Those who control the Narrative and the Money Supply control the populous.

Absolute monarchies used to hold this power.

    Then along came Nation States.

But now, with the information age, a new struggle to maintain control is here.

The current trend toward more authoritarian government control is due to two main forces:

    1. The Decentralization of Media
    2. The Decentralization of Currencies

These two tidal waves of decentralization threaten governments worldwide.

I believe we’re at a pivotal moment in history similar to the invention of the Gutenberg printing press.

The Internet and Cryptocurrencies are today’s version of the Gutenberg printing press.

These new disruptive technologies are pressuring current “Nation-State” power structure.

And thus, Government control must rise (i.e., Tyranny) if Nation States want to remain in power.

Because if a Nation State allows decentralization (and does nothing to counteract it), it will quickly devolve and become powerless.

These trends explain why global tensions, conflict, and turmoil are rising and will continue to rise.

    The bottom line:

Government control worldwide will worsen in the coming decades…

Note: You can watch the video below or skip over it and continue reading the article; the content is nearly identical.

↓ Why Rising Tyranny Is Inevitable (Like It Or Not) ↓

Credit: The following ideas were inspired by two primary sources:

Brief History Of The Printing Press

If you go back to the invention of the printing press, you’ll see how disruptive THAT new technology was to THAT era’s lock-tight power structure.

The printing press was the spark that broke past “Government control.”

When the printing press came along, it was a brand-new technology.

And it created, over time, a wave of decentralization.

This power shakeup led to massive chaos, pain, suffering, and war.

Of course, back in the 1400s, when the printing press was invented, people didn’t use the word “Government” for the ruling class.

The ruling class in Europe was a combination of the Monarchies and the Church.

    Interpreting The Bible

Before the printing press, the masses relied on Priests to read and interpret the Bible.

    Why? For two reasons:

    1. Without printing technology, Bibles were rare, so they were kept under tight control.
    2. Most people were illiterate anyway. So even if they got a peek at a Bible, they couldn’t read it.

And so, people were forced to rely upon the “keepers of the Bible” to tell them what was in it.

Just think about how much control this gave the Church and Monarchies.

    You’d be 100% dependent on a Priest’s interpretation.

And, of course, with great power corruption follows.

So these bible gatekeepers invented something called an indulgence, which essentially said,

“You must pay favors to the church (and priests) to be forgiven your sins and to avoid the tortures of hell.”

But the printing press disrupted this long-standing power dynamic.

Because over time, with the printing press, more written material was created, so “the masses” found it useful to become literate.

And at some point, there was was no longer a bottleneck to access the Scriptures.

And the masses read and interpreted it for themselves.

Once this happened, the masses realized those in power were manipulating them.

This is why Martin Luther was so upset when he pinned his thesis to the wall.

Martin Luther realized WHAT the Church was saying and WHAT was written were NOT the same.

This was the environment where monarchies and churches (i.e., past Governments) lost control.

The existing narrative (Roman Church) was challenged by a new narrative (Protestant Church).

These two narratives (i.e., truths) became unreconcilable differences.

And ultimately, this narrative and power shift led to Europe’s long, horrific Thirty Years’ War.

Now, over the long term, the printing press invention was positive for humanity.

But the Thirty Years’ War was the horrible result of the decentralization brought about by the printing press.

Every day folks caught in the middle suffered from senseless violence and mass starvation…

↓ Europe’s Apocalypse: The Shocking Human Cost Of The Thirty Years’ War… ↓

So, what’s today’s equivalent of the Gutenberg press? The Internet.

The internet is the next phase of decentralization of information.

How The Modern Nation State Came to Be

Before the printing press, there were no such things as Nation-States.

Instead, the central system of populous control was through The Church and The Monarchies.

Priests and Kings had ALL the power.

Regular folks had no say, voice, or vote.

    Instead, they served a king.

And they fell in line just to keep their family fed.

But once the printing press arrived, it upended the Priest and Monarch’s control over the narrative.

The narrative (or Truth) was no longer in control of a handful of people (kings and priests).

With the democratization of narrative the Monarchy power structure had to go.

But humanity cannot exist in a vacuum.

Society cannot exist in complete social anarchy and chaos.

We require a framework of law and order to live within.

Something we can all live with and support.

After the printing press, humanity generally no longer trusted Monarchies.

So the next best solution was to choose leaders representing their shared interests.

And create laws and rules more in line with the wishes of the collective.

    That was the idea, anyway…

Of course, no Nation-State is the same; they have many differences, from liberal democracies to totalitarian regimes.

But we can all agree very few absolute monarchies survived the invention of the printing press.

    Absolute Monarchies Became Obsolete…

    RED = Remaining Absolute Monarchies

In the map above, only the RED countries are absolute monarchies.

The rest have a constitution or parliament to share their authority.

So most surviving monarchies today are neutered and hold very little actual power.

They are primarily symbolic in nature.

And while Nation-States are more decentralized than Monarchies, they still maintain much of the narrative control (what we call propaganda).

But compared to Monarchies, regular folks had way autonomy and freedom.

So in hindsight, perhaps the Nation-State was the most obvious next step in the social structure evolutions.

But still, large Governments control people and limit many individual freedoms.

Mostly, we follow their rules (whether we agree with them or not) and pay taxes (whether we think it’s a good investment).

    • Yes, it’s way better than having kings and priests decide for you.
    • And power is now more distributed across a bureaucratic representation (in theory).
    • Plus, checks and balances help prevent any single person (or small group) from gaining too much control for long.

But with the invention of the internet, the decentralization of narrative is disrupting todays control and structure.

And this slippage is leading to increasing conflicts.

And I believe this will lead to rising levels of totalitarianism.

The Next Phase of Social Evolution

I believe we’re in the early stages of a new societal transition similar to the years following the printing press.

Back then, after the invention of the printing press, The Church and Monarchies were forced to intact violence on their people.

Why? Because they knew they were losing their grip on power.

A powerful entity in decline will increase its control over its people to survive.

    They do this by:

    • enacting new laws, more regulations, and more bureaucracy
    • less privacy, and more watchkeepers and auditors.

And this is exactly what we’re seeing today, right?

We’re at a time when the current powers, the Nation-States, will do everything in their power to maintain control.

But eventually, when all those regulations and oversight don’t “fix the problem,” they’ll move to outright intimidation and violence.

They’ll demonize, demonetize and “make examples” of anyone who falls out of line.

Unfortunately, we are at the cusp of THAT kind of government control and tyranny.

At this point, I want to introduce you to someone:

Niall Ferguson, MA, D.Phil., is the Milbank Family Senior Fellow at the Hoover Institution, Stanford University, and a senior faculty fellow of the Belfer Center for Science and International Affairs at Harvard.

He was the one who initially brought these concerns to my attention and shares his central idea in the video clip below:

↓ Historian Niall Ferguson on the roots of today’s political polarization

    Decentralization of Media

We’re well into the new phase of media decentralization brought about by The Internet.

And this is critical because, again, whoever controls the narrative defines the truth.

And whoever defines the truth defines reality.

Nowadays, with the internet, anyone, anywhere, can talk to anyone else in real-time with no limits to the number of people paying attention.

Sure, there are some “media gatekeepers” today, mainly Big Tech platforms.

But these “social” platforms are being targeted by Government control to stop the spread of “misinformation” and “disinformation.”

The US Government is putting extreme pressure on these “gatekeepers” to maintain control of the “narrative.”

However, over the long term, with The Internet, the march towards narrative decentralization is inevitable.

But make no mistake; NO Nation State will go quietly into the night.

They will do EVERYTHING in their power to remain in power – including violence.

    Quote:

The threshold between verbal violence and actual violence is a very fragile fence. – Niall Ferguson

How We Got Where We Are

Nation-states have always had some control over the media.

Before TV and the internet, it was newspapers and pamphlets.

Nation-States never had absolute narrative control, unlike past Monarchies.

But they have had enough “persuasion” and “influence” to keep things within a “reasonable” range.

And since the information was created and distributed by only a handful of companies, influence was relatively easy.

    For example:

In the US era of broadcast television, there were only 3 major networks to worry about.

And these 3 networks had to keep their narrative in a relatively tight range for two reasons:

    1. They had to talk to ALL Americans so that they couldn’t stray too far from the middle without alienating a massive chunk of their audience.
    2. Governments could influence such a small number of media channels with ease.

Then along came Cable News; that’s when controlling the narrative became more complex but still possible to some degree.

Then the internet came along and broke the control of the narrative wide open.

Now influence and control over the narrative is a much more challenging problem.

Perhaps even futile at some point.

Because it takes a whole lot more time and resources even to attempt to shape so many opinions at scale.

    In summary:

Each of these changes in Media creation, distribution, and consumption has led toward more and more decentralization of narrative.

More voices mean less control and influence.

↓ Who Rules America: The Power of The Media | Propaganda

I’m not saying whether decentralization is good or bad long term.

There are pros and cons either way you look at it.

I’m saying this is happening whether we like it or not.

The internet is here; we must learn to live with it.

Ok, so what are the next steps? What’s the future hold?

Next Steps In the Decentralization of Media

I believe blockchain and Web 3.0 are the subsequent phases of decentralization.

I’ll be honest here; I’m NO expert in Web 3.0.

I know just enough to see how it may affect the next phase of decentralization.

Here’s what I think is most important to understand with Web 3.0 from a media control standpoint:

Web 3.0 will allow individuals to control the media they produce.

They no longer have to bow to the current social media gatekeepers (Facebook, Google, YouTube, etc.).

People will be able to support “journalists” directly and anomalously.

We already see some of these ideas with setups like Substack.

But theoretically, Web 3.0 will be even freer from control and influence…

With Web 3.0, there’s no longer a middleman who can “cancel you” if they (or a Nation-State) don’t like or agree with what you’re saying.

Here’s a video worth watching to help better understand the main ideas (and implications) behind Web 3.0:

↓ What is Web 3.0? (Explained with Animations)

If this is true, and Web 3.0 takes off, do you think the government will like that?

    No way.

Web 3.0 means even less government control over “dangerous ideas.”

There’s no way governments will willingly allow complete narrative control to slip through their fingers, right?

    Instead, they’ll be forced to:

    1. Outlaw any new technology that promotes online free speech
    2. Punish any “inconvenient ideas” by labeling dissenters as a terrorist and throwing them in jail.

We already see some of these tactics, right?

Read the entire DHS bulletin for yourself.

And it’s NOT just the decentralization of Media we’re seeing.

But at the same time, we’re also seeing the decentralization of the Monetary Supply.

    Decentralization of Currencies

Ok, this one is even more complicated, so; I’m only going to give you the broad strokes.

Not only are Nation-States in a battle for “narrative control,” but cryptocurrencies are threatening Nation-State currency control.

Bitcoin, Ethereum, Dogecoin, etc., are not nationally approved currencies.

And so far, they are not controlled by Nation-States (especially when you store your coins on a hardware wallet that only you control).

China is the exception, but they are already more tyrannical than Western governments.

Cryptocurrencies are decentralized transactions using digital tokens.

You can trade and spend these crypto tokens (digital currency) without using banks or credit cards.

This is decentralization 101, and it cuts out (i.e. threatens) traditional finance intermediaries.

But for anyone to do that, there must be a reason to trust, right?

A currency of exchange only works if people trust it.

With crypto, transactions are recorded as public records via blockchain technology.

And again, complicated stuff, but in theory, the blockchain is a mistake-proof way to decentralize buying and spending with confidence.

Now, of course, with any new technology, there will be issues and growing pains.

But IF people start shifting from National currencies to cryptocurrencies, the governments will lose monetary control.

They won’t be able to ‘print more’ and inflate their way out of crushing national debt.

They also won’t be as successful at using interest rates to control the economy.

    Decentralized Finance

If cryptocurrencies ever gain mass adoption, government-controlled interest rates won’t control economic activities.

Why? Because people won’t rely on financial gatekeepers like big banks to get loans.

Instead, people can secure loans directly from other “nonbank” groups via crypto and blockchain technology.

Nation-States use these “gatekeepers” to control interest rates to help support or slow down economic activities.

But with cryptocurrencies, Nation-States can no longer use these “levers” to manipulate the value of money.

Plus, cryptocurrencies and encryption may undermine the government’s ability to track and tax.

IF people discover they can avoid (or hide) much of their income or assets from the IRS…this would, in turn, reduce government revenues over time.

    ↓ How Cryptocurrency ACTUALLY Works.

So as you can see, IF cryptocurrencies mature and go mainstream, the government will lose much of its control over finances.

ANY government in its right mind cannot allow this to happen.

They will fight it with everything they’ve got.

Currently, it seems like most governments worldwide are not threatened by crypto…yet.

But let’s say; for argument’s sake, we enter into a period of hyperinflation.

Perhaps, traditional currencies go into massive decline (Russian ruble, Mexican pesos, US dollar). In that case, many people will abandon the “sinking ships” and move to cryptos.

Why? Because anyone facing the wealth destruction of hyperinflation may see crypto as a better option.

Such a dire situation may shift the crypto risk and reward equation.

We already saw this phenomenon in Venezuela.

Again, the loss of monetary control by a Nation-State is a death sentence.

With cryptocurrencies, the next phase of monetary decentralization will have far-reaching implications for EVERYONE globally.

And the world’s governments will be forced to clamp down to maintain control.

    Government Control: What’s Next?

What will that look like if governments are forced to evolve or even devolve?

    I’m not sure.

No one knows precisely what the future holds.

I hope the ride is manageable.

And I pray there will be less corruption, more accountability, and morality when we get to the other side.

But history has proven this transition will be chaotic.

And government control and violence will get worse before it gets better.

    For example:

Today, more than ever, people want to secede from the union.

I’m not saying that WILL happen, but it sure feels more possible now than ever…

But I believe whatever comes will be messy and dangerous.

I think the Nation States rooted in democracy may be forced to model more Authoritarian regimes in the future.

Why? Due to their built-in respect for human rights, it may be necessary for these Governments to trample on “rights” to survive.

Unfortunately, the modern-day Nation State and Individual “rights” may no longer be compatible.

Are we entering the dystopian, Orwellian future written about in the book 1984?

That feels more possible today than ever before.

↓ Is 1984 Becoming a Reality? – George Orwell’s Warning to the World

    The bottom line is:

We’re now in a societal era much like the invention of the Gutenberg printing press.

So, brace yourself because it will be a painful journey to the other side, just like the Thirty Years’ War in Europe.

What YOU Can Do About It

To have hope (and avoid feeling debilitating anxiety about the future), you must shift your focus from what you can’t control to what YOU CAN control.

And the only thing regular folks (like you and me) can fully control is how resilient (or fragile) we are to future chaos.

We know future chaos and turmoil are inevitable.

Even IF the future doesn’t play out as disastrously as I suggest above, the future will NOT be smooth sailing.

At the very least, national disasters and financial crises are on the horizon.

Nobody knows precisely when or how bad, but we know they will come.

    • So why would you live a life fragile to these events?
    • Why wouldn’t you make an effort to plan for the “troubled times” ahead?

That is why I think you should start living a resilient life.

To me, living a resilient life means acquiring some essential supplies just in case, which is a lot like investing in your own mini-insurance policy.

It’s a way to protect what you currently have and smooth out the wild ride ahead.
