Natural Disasters – Are You Really Prepared for One?

admin By admin December 23, 2018

Millions of people in the US are affected each year by natural disasters, whether they are hurricanes, earthquakes, tornadoes, etc.

Are YOU and your family prepared? What if there was no electricity or natural gas available and your water pipes could not deliver clean water? That means that no stores would be open for food. You would literally be homeless – hungry, thirsty and no shelter or warmth.

So how about preparing for the worst? What are the absolute emergency survival necessities you would need?

Let's talk about food. There are packaged food supplies available that have a shelf life of up to 25 years. The food is pre-packaged into individual servings. Meat, vegetables, fruit, even eggs and milk are available in individual and family-sized portions. You might think that these items would be very expensive because they are special but you would be wrong. And believe me, this food is nutritional, easy to prepare and is good tasting.

You can buy the food inexpensively and it generally comes packaged in a waterproof box or tub that can easily be transported or transported.

Clean water is also available, generally in tough plastic bags that are difficult to puncture. There is also water purifying kits available which come in bottle size all the way up to gallons of clean water that can be made for your consumption.

As far as shelter and warmth, tents are available which are easy to set up (not like your camping tents that can take forever to get up). Along with these tents, you should also have some woolen blankets for the cold and ponchos for rain. And be sure to have some sort of fire-starters, whether it is water-proof matches or a flint-striker.

Those items I mentioned were just a few things you should have available for easy access in case of some sort of emergency. Obviously there are many other items such as extra medicine, another pair of eyeglasses, flashlights, batteries, sharp knives, etc.

Another emergency survival product that you should always have available is a good first aid kit. I'm not talking about something you can buy at the local store that has a couple of band aids and some topical cream – get a GOOD kit that has the materials you will need if there is no other emergency service available. I also would suggest a good First Aid Book with pictures, even if you are trained in first aid. You can never have enough information.

This was just a short article on the basics of what you need in case of some sort of natural disaster.

In this day and age it is a great idea to prepare for a major problem. I'm not being paranoid, just having a the items you need will take a load off your mind knowing that your family will be taken care of in case of real trouble.
