Key Features to Look for in a Manual Firewood Splitter

A good manual firewood splitter should be strong, stable, and safe. Here’s what you should consider before buying:

???? Splitting Mechanism – Hydraulic pump? Slide hammer? Wedge-and-mallet design? Pick one based on your strength and log size needs.

???? Max Log Size – Some splitters handle only small logs for kindling, while others can split thicker, tougher pieces of firewood.

???? Portability – If you need something lightweight for camping or off-grid use, avoid bulky hydraulic models.

???? Durability – Cast iron and hardened steel blades last longer than cheap aluminum or plastic parts.

???? Ease of Use – If your goal is less effort, go for hydraulic splitters or wedge-based designs that don’t require brute force.

How to Use a Manual Firewood Splitter (Without Wrecking Yourself)

Using a manual firewood splitter the right way will keep you safe and make the job much easier. Here’s the step-by-step process:

1. Prep Your Work Area

✔️ Set up on solid, level ground (concrete or packed dirt works best)
✔️ Wear safety gear – gloves, boots, and eye protection (flying wood chips are no joke)
✔️ Stack logs nearby so you don’t have to stop and reload every few minutes

2. Position the Log

✔️ Place the log upright and centered on the splitter
✔️ If using a wedge-style splitter, align it straight over the grain for a clean break

3. Apply Force

✔️ For hydraulic splitters – Pump the handle until the log splits
✔️ For slide hammer splitters – Lift the hammer and slam it down onto the wedge
✔️ For wedge-style splitters – Strike the log with a heavy mallet until it cracks

4. Remove & Repeat

✔️ Clear the split logs away before placing another one
✔️ If a log doesn’t split completely, rotate it and try again

Pro Tip: Don’t rush. Splitting firewood is about technique, not just strength.

Let the tool do the work!

Who Should Get a Manual Firewood Splitter?

A manual firewood splitter isn’t for everyone—but it might be perfect for you if:

You want a safer alternative to an axe – If you’re tired of swinging a maul (or just worried about missing your target), a splitter gives you more control and less risk.

You don’t want to deal with gas-powered machines – Hydraulic and electric splitters are great, but they require maintenance, fuel, or electricity. Manual splitters work anywhere.

You need something portable – If you’re heading to a cabin or off-grid property, a small manual wood splitter is easier to transport than a heavy-duty hydraulic model.

You want to save money – Manual splitters cost a fraction of electric or gas-powered splitters. If you’re only splitting firewood for personal use, a $100–$300 splitter will get the job done without breaking the bank.

❌ However…If you need to split massive logs all winter long, you might want to invest in a powered splitter instead. Manual splitters are fantastic for smaller jobs, but they’ll wear you out if you need to process cords of wood regularly.

Final Thoughts: Should You Get a Manual Firewood Splitter?

So if you love the idea of splitting firewood without gas, electricity, or unnecessary effort, a manual firewood splitter is a smart buy. It’s safer than an axe, cheaper than a power splitter. And far more efficient than splitting logs the old-fashioned way.

???? For small logs and kindling? Go for a wedge-based splitter like the Kindling Cracker.
???? For medium-sized logs? A slide hammer splitter gives you controlled power.
???? For big logs? A hydraulic manual splitter is your best bet.

At the end of the day, the right tool makes all the difference. If you want faster, easier, and safer firewood splitting, a manual wood splitter belongs in your shed.

Now, go forth and split wood like a pro. ????????

The post Manual Wood Splitter: Best Options & How to Use Them appeared first on Skilled Survival.

Only 17 Percent Of Young Adults In The U.S. In The 25 To 34 Age Bracket Have Attained The 5 Major Milestones Of Adulthood

What I am about to share with you is some of the clearest evidence yet that the middle class in America is being systematically destroyed.  Young adults are forming middle class households at an extremely depressed rate, and that is because the American Dream is simply out of reach for most of them in this very harsh economic environment.  If you can’t get a good job that pays an adequate wage, you aren’t going to be able to live a middle class lifestyle.  Sadly, many older Americans simply do not understand how difficult things have become for our young adults in this day and age.

The Census Bureau has produced a paper entitled “Changes in Milestones of Adulthood” that absolutely blew me away.

According to the Census Bureau, the 5 major milestones of adulthood are living away from your parents, completing your education, getting a job, marrying, and living with a child.  Since 1975, the success that our young people have had in attaining these milestones has declined dramatically

According to the working paper, “Changes in Milestones of Adulthood,” almost half of all young adults in 1975 had reached four milestones associated with adulthood: moving out of one’s parents’ home, getting a job, getting married and having a child.

Five decades on, that progression has changed dramatically. The share of young adults that have followed the traditional pathway to adulthood has dropped to less than a quarter, according to the paper.

After reading that CBS News article, I had to go find the original paper.

I found it on the official Census Bureau website, and it says that in 2023 only 17 percent of young adults had attained the 5 major milestones of adulthood…

In 2005, the most common combination was young adults who had all five milestones (about 26% experienced all five milestones). By 2023, however, the proportion of young adults who experienced all five markers of adulthood declined to about 17%, and young adults who reported only experiencing the three economic milestones of living away from parents, completing education, and participating in the labor force was the modal combination. Finally, the residual category in Figure 2 representing the proportion of young adults who experienced any other combination of milestones declined from 36% to 30%, suggesting that the experiences of young adults have become more homogeneous for contemporary cohorts.

17 percent!

Just think about that.

If our society was in good shape, most of our young adults would be in a position to achieve all 5 milestones by the age of 25.

But our society is not in good shape.  According to the Census Bureau paper, the primary reason why young adults are not achieving these milestones is because they are “facing economic barriers”

The reason for this, according to the paper, is that more young adults between the ages of 25 and 34 are facing economic barriers compared with previous generations. Changing societal attitudes around family formation are also contributing to the sharp decline in the share of young people reaching what the U.S. Census Bureau considers to be “key milestones.”

If I keep hitting people with more evidence day after day, maybe the skeptics will finally start getting it.

Our young adults are not entering the middle class fast enough to replace the older middle class adults that are dying off.

As a result, the middle class is steadily shrinking.

To be a part of the middle class, you have to be able to get a middle class job.

And right now the competition for middle class jobs among our young people is extremely fierce.

If you doubt this, just consider what a 23-year-old college graduate recently admitted to NBC News

“Every guy I know that is without a job right now wants to work, but they just can’t get it,” said Eli McCullick, who has been looking for a job for more than a year after he graduated with a degree in sociology from the University of Colorado Boulder. “It’s demoralizing for guys who really want to get ahead and it’s just not happening.”

McCullick, 23, said he hasn’t even been able to get an hourly job at a restaurant or doing cleaning work at a hotel in the Boulder area, where he’s living at a property his father owns. The only way he has been able to earn money to cover his food and daily expenses has been to do odd jobs for friends and relatives, like shoveling horse manure, mowing lawns and helping an older woman prepare for a yard sale.

There is no way that I would want to be a fresh college graduate looking for a job right now.

It is terrible out there.

Another recent college graduate told NBC News that nearly all of his friends are unemployed and living with their parents…

Sean Breen, who graduated this spring with a communications degree from California State University, Long Beach, said he and nearly all of his high school friends, both men and women, are back home living with their parents and unemployed. He said even those who went to top-ranked colleges and got seemingly in-demand degrees are unable to find work.

“It is like a high school reunion,” Breen said. “We’re all, we are back in Marin County this summer, all unemployed, all trying to find a barista job, a part-time something, because we haven’t found anything.”

After having applied to hundreds of jobs, he said, Breen now plans to go to graduate school in the fall at Trinity College in Ireland, where tuition is significantly lower and, he hopes, jobs will be more plentiful.

This is the reality of what is really going on out there.

Those that keep insisting that “everything is fine” just need to stop.

The job market is freezing up and layoffs have absolutely skyrocketed compared to last year…

Layoffs have risen 140 percent from a year ago, a new report reveals.

Companies have already announced more than 800,000 job cuts this year alone, the highest since the pandemic upended the economy in 2020.

US-based employers cut 62,075 jobs in July compared to 25,885 in the same month last year.

Those numbers are staggering.

Unfortunately, 62 percent of U.S. consumers believe that unemployment will continue to get even worse during the months ahead…

  • About 62% of consumers believe unemployment will worsen in the year ahead, according to the University of Michigan’s latest monthly survey.
  • That’s bounced around a little in the last few months, but consistently hung around levels not seen since the Great Recession.

Do you remember how difficult it was to get a good job during the Great Recession?

Well, now we are entering a similar time.

That may help to explain why “job hugging” has become a thing in 2025…

Job hugging is the act of holding onto a job “for dear life,” consultants at Korn Ferry, an organizational consulting firm, wrote last week.

The rate at which workers are voluntarily leaving their jobs — known as the quits rate — has hovered around 2% since the start of the year, according to data from the U.S. Labor Department’s Job Openings and Labor Turnover Survey. Outside of the initial days of the Covid-19 pandemic, levels haven’t been that consistently low since early 2016.

The quits rate is a barometer of workers’ perceptions of the broader labor market, said Laura Ullrich, director of economic research in North America at the Indeed Hiring Lab. In this case, they may be nervous about getting another job or aren’t enthusiastic about their ability to find one, she said.

If you have a job that you highly value, don’t let go.

Hold on to it as tightly as you can, because if you lose it you may not find work again for a long time.

A lot of people are shocked by what is happening, but the truth is that nobody should be surprised.

There was no way that we were going to be able to defy the laws of economics forever.

The inexorable march of time cannot be stopped, and our future is going to look a whole lot different than most people anticipated.

There Is Debate About Whether The Red Heifer Sacrifice That Took Place In Israel On July 1st Was The Real Thing Or Not

A number of people have asked me about the red heifer sacrifice that took place in Israel on July 1st, and so I decided to look into it.  I had heard that it was just a “practice run”, and so I didn’t understand why some people were making such a big deal about it.  Well, it turns out that those that actually conducted the red heifer sacrifice did not consider it to be a “practice run”.  That definitely shocked me.  Meanwhile, the Temple Institute is insisting that the ceremony on July 1st used “a disqualified heifer” and therefore could not be the real thing.  So there is a debate about the legitimacy of the ceremony, but everyone agrees that a lot of emotions are being stirred up because of what just took place.

Byron Stinson helped bring five red heifers from Texas to Israel in 2022, and he organized the sacrifice of one of those red heifers on a remote hilltop in northern Israel on July 1st at 6 PM

Stinson told RNS about the details of the practice ritual, which was held at 6 p.m. local time July 1, and released photos and video of the ceremony. That video shows a flaming pyre on a remote hilltop with what looks like the animal carcass engulfed in flames. A rabbi led the ceremony after the heifer was driven there from Shiloh in the West Bank, where the selected red heifers have been kept.

Plans for the ritual have been years in the making. Stinson, who has a home in Israel and lives there part of the year, funded a search to find heifers that would fit the exacting requirements found in the biblical text. Those requirements include having no flaws or blemishes, even from the ear tags commonly used by ranchers in the United States.

I mentioned this “practice run” in a previous article.

But to Stinson, it wasn’t a “practice run”.

On Facebook, Stinson claimed that “it was real and the first in 2000 years”

This is the burning from July 1. It was not on the Mount of Olives and some Jewish leaders feel it does not pass all requirements they support. But it was real and the first in 2000 years. Some will say all you need is to follow the Torah. We did that. Others have a higher standard under the Oral Torah. Many will never agree. But the world is changing fast. And I believe this ceremony changed something in the world. So it should be recognized as the first in over 2000 years. Will there be more?

Yes.

Will everyone agree that those will be the “right” one.

No.

Many will continue to question and fight against the ceremony. I just think the world needs to know. The ceremony went perfect. With a perfect Priest. In a place outside of the camp. And, in the opinion of those I respect, we used a perfect red heifer.

According to Stinson, all of the requirements for a red heifer sacrifice that we actually find in the Bible were met.

But not all of the Jewish traditions about a red heifer sacrifice were satisfied.

So the Temple Institute and other Jewish authorities are never going to recognize the sacrifice that occurred on July 1st.

However, there are some Jewish voices that are embracing what just happened.  For example, Adam King had a sample of the ashes of the red heifer that was just sacrificed sent to him, and he showed that sample off on Tim Pool’s podcast.  King is claiming that people that have been sprinkled with the ashes of this red heifer have actually been healed

I don’t know what to make of that.

Apparently the recent sacrifice produced 10 and a half gallons of red heifer ashes, and samples have supposedly been sent all over the world.

So nobody will ever be able to track all of the ashes down.

But the Temple Institute, which will actually be overseeing the future Temple in Jerusalem, says that all of the red heifers that had been brought to Israel ended up being disqualified and thus the ceremony that took place on July 1st was just a “test run”.  In a lengthy Facebook post, the Temple Institute detailed precisely what they believe will be necessary for a legitimate red heifer sacrifice…

Our longtime supporters are certainly aware that the Institute’s efforts to raise or discover a red heifer suitable for the purpose of achieving the ashes of the red heifer go back more than two decades. We have forged deep connections with cattle growers in the United States, both professionally and personally. We have worked with cattle growers in Israel. We have raised red heifer candidates here in Israel and flown over red heifer candidates from Texas. The halachot concerning the eligibility of a potential red heifer are very strict and unfortunately all our efforts so far have been frustrated by the appearance of more than one non-red hair on all our potential candidates. Nevertheless, our efforts continue.

Attaining a suitable red heifer, however, is only one aspect of the work of achieving the longed for purifying ashes. Once a viable red heifer has been achieved it needs to be slaughtered and burned into ashes. Simply to create a fire that will burn at a temperature capable of converting the heifer into ashes is a task that has required much research and experimentation.

Kohanim who are free of the impurity of tamei met must be located, for only kohanim enjoying such a status can be involved in creating the ashes. This requires kohanim who were home-birthed and have never stepped inside a hospital or cemetery, where the impurity of tamei met is a given. The Institute has successfully located and brought on board eligible kohanim.

Pure waters from the Shiloach spring located at the foot of the City of David must be collected and cedar wood, hyssop and wool dyed red with the tola’at shani insect must also be acquired and added to the ashes. Fortunately all these elements are readily attainable.
The actual burning of the heifer must take place on the Mount of Olives at a vantage point from which the kohen performing the ceremony can see into the great entrance of the Temple Sanctuary, (or, at least where it stood).

All throughout the Institute’s continuing efforts, tremendous research has formed the basis for every step forward we have taken. Rabbi Azarya arial of the Temple Institute has devoted years of his life researching and overseeing all these aspects.

Recently a groundbreaking test run was taken using a disqualified heifer. The experience better prepares us for the ultimate performance of the ceremony with a kosher heifer.

I am sure that there will be a lot of debate about the ceremony that took place on July 1st for a long time to come.

And I am sure that the Temple Institute will eventually conduct their own sacrifice when they feel that they have found a suitable candidate.

But that is not what I am focusing on.

Personally, I am focusing on all of the very clear signs of the end times that are literally being fulfilled right in front of our eyes.

God has told us history in advance, and the Bible has a tremendous amount to say about the days that we are currently living in.

Tariffs Won’t Spawn Good Trade Deals

This article was originally published by Vincent Cook at Natural News.

In previous “Tariffs Won’t . . .” articles, I pointed out that President Trump’s tariffs won’t reverse the decline of America’s industries, save the US dollar, or optimize the well-being of productive Americans. The White House summary of the US-Japan Strategic Trade and Investment Agreement, the first deal of Trump’s “Golden Age” negotiated with a major trading partner, provides disturbing confirmation of just how perverse and outlandish the economic fallacies driving Trump’s policies have become.

The major trade provisions are that American importers will generally have to pay 15 percent “reciprocal tariffs” to the American government for the Japanese goods they buy, though for certain sectors the tariff rate will be much higher, 50 percent tariffs in the case of steel and aluminum products, for example. Specific American exporters will benefit from reductions in Japanese regulatory or quota barriers and from Japanese government purchases of their products, like a pledge to buy 100 commercial aircraft from Boeing.

There are, however, another important set of provisions dealing with what is euphemistically labeled “strategic investments” of $550 billion by the Japanese government in particular American industries—specifically loans and loan guarantees for LNG production, production of advanced fuels, and grid modernization; for semiconductor manufacturing and research; for the mining, processing, and refining of rare earth minerals; for pharmaceutical and medical device production; and for commercial and defense shipbuilding.

The curious thing about these supposedly Japanese investments in America is that the US government will retain 90 percent of the profits—in other words, only $55 billion will function like a genuine loan providing an investment return to Japan in the form of interest payments. The other $495 billion is effectively tribute being extorted from the Japanese government by the American government. Trump will control how the $550 billion is invested, giving him his own vast slush fund to play with. Trump is stepping into the role of a socialist central planner, taking a majority ownership stake in the means of production of various businesses in what almost amounts to a Leonine partnership with the Japanese government.

One important detail that is missing from the White House summary is what happens in the event that an investment generates losses instead of profits, which seems almost inevitable in the case of things like shipyards. Since the loan is being made to a fund controlled by Trump, it seems likely that the Trump administration would come up with even more costly interventions or subsidies to boost purchases of overpriced “strategic” goods rather than tamely accept the failure of one of its “strategic” investments and perhaps saddle the Japanese with partial defaults. One costly market-warping, chaos-inducing intervention naturally begets another.

Another important missing detail is how the Japanese government is supposed to come up with $550 billion dollars. While it can create unlimited quantities of yen out of thin air, yen are of little use to anyone outside Japan except to purchase Japanese exports or to invest in Japan, both of which would defeat the stated goals of the American protectionists. Another possibility is that a large portion the Bank of Japan’s existing reserves of US Treasury securities could be dumped onto American bond markets to obtain the required dollars (which would probably have to be newly created out of thin air by the Federal Reserve), but Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent seems to have ruled that out by stating that the sum represents “all new capital.” Either way, the plan seems to be to finance the loan by reducing the reserve cover for the yen while inflating the supply of dollars.

While some tariff advocates have claimed that “reciprocal” tariffs are meant only to provide negotiating leverage to pry open closed foreign markets for American exporters, what we observe with this deal is that such leverage is also being used to pick winners and losers among American companies and to erode the stability of the global financial system. The US-Japan trade deal represents an unholy brew combining taxes, central planning, and further inflationary destruction of fiat monies.

Of course, the Trump administration and pro-Trump pundits don’t characterize the deal this way. They are instead touting it as rebuilding and expanding America’s “core industries” and as an important component of a “once in a century industrial revival” and are particularly thrilled about what Japanese-subsidized capital expenditures will supposedly do for American industries as they try to exploit newly-protected domestic markets and newly-opened foreign markets. So how can Trump go wrong with over half a trillion dollars’ worth of capital expenditures at his discretion?

The fallacy that increased capital expenditures necessarily equals increased formation of useful capital goods leaves out of account changes in the price of capital goods and the possibility of mispricing such goods by misjudging their usefulness and the timeliness of their outputs. When people restrain their present consumption—that is, when they engage in acts of thrift—it becomes possible to divert some labor and natural resource inputs away from the production of immediate consumption goods towards the production of capital goods used in earlier stages of production. Thrift makes higher input productivity possible by furnishing additional time for the transformation of inputs into outputs. Thrift is a necessary element of all capital formation for this reason, though the returns on that capital also have to be high enough to justify the time spent waiting for them—that is, prospective returns must exceed an investor’s rate of time preference.

Without thrift providing more of the inputs physically needed to produce investment goods as well as providing the financing (as in this deal), additional capital expenditures (which then have to be financed by money creation instead) merely bid up the prices of capital goods without adding to their supply. Such asset bubbles cause costly boom-and-bust cycles that waste inputs due to mispricing of capital goods, fooling entrepreneurs into thinking that more time is available for completing production projects than is actually the case. The more time-intensive boom goods become unprofitable and have to be written off as wasted malinvestments of whatever inputs were consumed to create them. Malinvestments (in this case due to inflation-driven boom/bust cycles) are a strategic liability.

Likewise, simply increasing the physical supply of capital goods is not an end in itself; the price paid for them has to be justified by the timing and consumer valuation of their outputs. Private capitalists choose among prospective investments based on their expectations of profits or losses, using market price information to calculate which of the possible configurations of production will likely be the most profitable. As the results of their chosen production plans are realized, they then account for whatever profits and losses arise from these plans in order to help detect and correct errors in their plans.

On the other hand, governments that abolish market pricing of producer goods or otherwise defy profit-and-loss incentives when they interfere with production decisions necessarily generate non-cyclical malinvestment losses. Government planners, unconstrained by profits and losses and lacking market exchanges for whatever assets they monopolize, can’t calculate or do proper accounting and thus can’t correctly price capital goods. Rational cost-benefit calculations are impossible for Trump’s slush fund, so its planning will generate strategic liabilities too.

There is no market test to tell us which American companies should or shouldn’t be rewarded with investments from a tribute-financed slush fund, which American companies should or shouldn’t have their sales boosted by Japanese government-subsidized purchases, or which American companies should or shouldn’t join Japanese companies in having privileged access to Japanese consumers. There is no rational economic basis whatsoever for this selection of winners and losers under this agreement; just a cynical political judgment that some potential cronies in the business world will deliver more votes to Republicans and/or more swag to the Trump clan than others.

Once we dispose of these economic fallacies concerning inflation-financed capital expenditures, we are left with the sobering reality that thrift is something that has been conspicuously diminished in both the US and Japan over the past half-century, and that neither country is on a path towards an industrial revival. Policies like high tariff rates designed to curtail America’s current account deficits must curtail America’s access to foreign savings in equal measure, since net imports are what pay for foreign lending to America and for foreign direct investments in America. The US can’t look to protectionist trade deals to rescue it from the dire consequences of its own capital-consuming welfarism.

Indeed, Japan is a prime example of how protectionism fails to preserve industrial strength when profligate politicians discourage thrift and consume savings over the course of several lost decades. Japan is a country whose population is aging and shrinking at an alarming rate, and whose industries (apart from large conglomerates that have moved most of their production overseas already) are in even worse shape than America’s. Honda and Nissan recently shut down their flagship automobile plants near Tokyo. Is this the example Trump supporters want to emulate?

Manual Wood Splitter: Best Options & How to Use Them

A Complete Guide On Finding The Best Manual Wood Splitter For YOU

Splitting firewood by hand is a time-honored tradition—great for staying warm, building muscle, and working up a proper appreciation for modern tools.

Note: These are the only 2 I recommend. Everything else has too many compromises to be considered a top option.

120 Million Square Feet: Store Closings In The United States Are On Pace To Set A New Record High In 2025

This article was originally published by Michael Snyder at The Economic Collapse Blog.

If everything is going to be just fine, why are thousands of stores closing all over the country?  So far this year, the total amount of retail space that has been permanently closed has surpassed 120 million square feet.  We have never seen anything like this before.  Store closings spiked during the early days of the pandemic, but in 2025, stores are being permanently shuttered at an even faster pace.  In fact, during the first six months of this year, 5,822 store closures were recorded…

Store closures across the U.S. continue to rise, and remain on track to far significantly surpass both new openings and the figures seen in 2024.

According to a new report from research and advisory firm Coresight Research, cited by CoStar News, 5,822 store closures were recorded as of June 27, compared to 3,496 closures announced during the same period of 2024.

If stores continue to close at this rate, we will break the old record that was established during the pandemic by a wide margin.

We are also being told that the total amount of retail space that has been permanently shuttered in 2025 has reached a staggering 120 million square feet

In June, store closings by Plano, Texas-based home goods seller At Home and Philadelphia-based pharmacy chain Rite Aid, which have both filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy protection, “pushed the total amount of retail space to close in the U.S. this year to over 120 million square feet,” Coresight said. The real estate churn is happening “as cyclical impacts confront structural shifts,” according to one executive at the research firm.

Wow.

You may have noticed that there are an increasing number of abandoned buildings in your particular area.

Sadly, this is just the beginning.

Consumers are under more financial stress than we have ever seen, and that has resulted in a substantial decline in store traffic

Many of the retail store closures are a result of declining store traffic as more consumers respond to inflation by reducing spending. There also are more consumers turning to online shopping especially for apparel, accessories and household items. The winner is not merely Amazon but increased competition from Temu and Shein marketplaces and social commerce outlets like TikTok.

Needless to say, more stores are being closed down with each passing day.

After filing for Chapter 11 bankruptcy protection, Claire’s announced that it will be closing 18 more stores

Claire’s, a mall-based teen accessories retailer, has identified several locations across the country it plans to close after filing for Chapter 11 bankruptcy protection.

Claire’s U.S., which operates Claire’s and Icing stores, made the filing in the U.S. Bankruptcy Court in Delaware on Wednesday. It’s the second time since 2018 the company has filed for bankruptcy.

While the company says the majority of its retail stores will remain open while it “continues to explore all strategic alternatives,” Claire’s said it identified 18 stores ahead of the Aug. 6 bankruptcy filing it would close, filings show.

And home goods retailer At Home just announced that it will be closing 6 more stores

The home goods retailer At Home is closing an additional six stores across the country, bringing its total closure tally to more than two dozen as it grapples with high debt and dwindling sales.

The furniture and home decor retailer based in Coppell, Texas, filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy on June 16, pointing to “broader economic and retail-specific market pressures,” in court documents. The bankruptcy filing and store closures follow several other “big box” retailers that have also significantly downsized their brick-and-mortar footprints this year, including Big Lots, Joann Fabrics, Kohl’s, JCPenney, Macy’s, and Party City.

The retailer intially announced 26 store closures in June, before paring that down to 24 when it decided to keep open two stores in New Jersey and Wisconsin. The company added another six stores to the list, according to a statement by retail firm Hilco Consumer-Retail on Aug. 1, bringing the current number of stores it will shutter in the coming months to 30.

We see more stories like this every single day.

So what is going to happen if our economic momentum continues to take us very rapidly in the wrong direction?

Earlier today, we learned that the percentage of student loans entering serious delinquency is absolutely exploding

The total amount of outstanding student loan debt was $1.64 trillion in the second quarter of 2025 after rising by $7 billion in the quarter.

Additionally, the share of student loan debt entering serious delinquency, considered 90 days or more late, jumped to 12.9% at the end of June, up from 8% in March and above pre-pandemic trends that were around 9-10% from 2012 into early 2020, when the moratorium initially took effect.

The American people are drowning in debt, and I expect delinquency rates of all types to continue to rise in the months ahead.

We are going to see more layoffs too, and the fact that continuing claims for unemployment benefits just hit their highest level since 2021 is not a good sign at all…

Recurring applications for unemployment benefits surged to the highest since November 2021, adding to recent signs that the labor market is weakening.

Continuing claims, a proxy for the number of people receiving benefits, rose by 38,000 to 1.97 million in the week ended July 26, according to Labor Department data released Thursday.

On top of everything else, U.S. manufacturing activity is now in contraction territory

From March to July, U.S. manufacturing activity contracted, according to the Institute for Supply Management’s monthly survey. The Manufacturing PMI last registered at 48, below the 50 score that differentiates growth and decline.

The effective average tariff rate on all imported goods now stands at around roughly 18% versus 2.3% last year, the highest levels since the 1930s.

We are in so much trouble.

After evaluating all of the latest economic numbers that have come in, Mark Zandi has come to the conclusion that the “economy is on the precipice of recession”

Mark Zandi, chief economist at Moody’s Analytics, on Monday wrote a post on X that the “economy is on the precipice of recession” – citing the weaker-than-expected jobs report released Friday and the inflation data from the previous day that showed consumer prices rose as indicating the economy’s precarious position.

“Consumer spending has flatlined, construction and manufacturing are contracting, and employment is set to fall. And with inflation on the rise, it is tough for the Fed to come to the rescue,” he wrote.

It is hard to argue with him.

Of course what is eventually coming is going to be so much worse than just a “recession”.

As conditions deteriorate, will store closings slow down or will they speed up?

The answer to that question is obvious.

If there are stores in your local area that you really enjoy, I would visit them now while you still can, because they might not be there next year.

Did World War I, World War II And World War III All Start According To The Same Mathematical Formula?

What I have to share with you today is truly strange.  Is it just a coincidence that the dates when World War I, World War II and World War III all started share a very eerie similarity?  You will see what I am talking about below.  This is something that has been circulating on social media, but I don’t know who originally made this discovery.  But when I learned of it, I knew that I had to share it with all of you.

I asked Google AI to tell me when World War I started, and I was told that it began on 07-28-1914…

World War I officially began on July 28, 1914. This date marks the beginning of Austria-Hungary’s declaration of war on Serbia, following the assassination of Archduke Franz Ferdinand. This event triggered a chain reaction of declarations of war across Europe, escalating into the global conflict known as World War I.

7 + 28 + 19 + 14 = 68

Are you with me so far?

Then I asked Google AI to tell me when World War II started, and I was told that it began on 09-01-1939…

World War II officially began on September 1, 1939, when Germany invaded Poland. This invasion triggered declarations of war by France and the United Kingdom, as they had treaties guaranteeing Poland’s support. However, the war’s roots lie in unresolved tensions from World War I, the rise of fascist and militarist regimes, and aggressive expansionist policies by several nations.

9 + 1 + 19 + 39 = 68

Okay, that is kind of creepy.

Then I asked Google AI to tell me when the Russian invasion of Ukraine began, and I was told that it happened on 02-24-2022…

Russia launched a full-scale invasion of Ukraine on February 24, 2022. This marked a significant escalation of the conflict between the two countries that began in 2014.

2 + 24 + 20 + 22 = 68

I was blown away when I first learned about this.

What are the odds that the dates when World War I, World War II and World War III all started would add up to the exact same number?

I went back and checked, and on February 24th, 2022 I wrote the following

Hopefully many of you are starting to grasp the gravity of what we are facing.  For years, I have been relentlessly warning that war with Russia was coming, and now it is here.

I tried to warn everyone about what would happen if we stayed on the path that we were on, but now it is too late.

There is nothing more than can be done, because World War III has already started.

Now we are closer to nuclear war than we have ever been before, but there is a glimmer of hope.

According to White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt, there is a very real possibility that President Trump could soon personally meet with Vladimir Putin

“As President Trump said yesterday, the Russians expressed their desire to meet with President Trump, and the President is open to this meeting,” Leavitt said in a statement to ABC News.

“President Trump would like to meet with both President Putin and President Zelensky because he wants this brutal war to end. The White House is working through the details of these potential meetings and details will be provided at the appropriate time,” Leavitt added.

If such a meeting actually takes place, that would be wonderful.

If anything is ever going to get accomplished, Trump and Putin need to sit down and talk.

The bad news is that Trump’s Friday deadline for the Russians to end the war is still set in stone

President Trump was also asked in the Oval Office if his Friday deadline for Putin to agree to a ceasefire or face sanction still stands.

“It’s gonna be up to him,” Trump said. “We’re going to see what he has to say. It’s gonna be up to him. Very disappointed.”

The Russians have already laid out what they want to end the war, and that position has not changed at all.

The two sides are not even in the same universe as far as what a negotiated settlement would look like, and so the war will continue to rage on.

Meanwhile, it appears that Israel plans to take full military control of all of Gaza

Israel’s security cabinet is meeting to decide on a full reoccupation of Gaza, a move that would mark a major escalation of the conflict after nearly two years of war in the territory.

Despite international pressure, opposition from the Israeli military and domestic fears the operation will endanger hostages, Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has pushed for a complete takeover of the besieged enclave.

When he was asked about this by Fox News, Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu explained that eventually control of Gaza will be handed over to a civilian government “that is not Hamas”

In an interview with Fox News shortly before the security cabinet meeting, Netanyahu was asked whether Israel plans to take military control of all of Gaza.

“We intend to,” Netanyahu said. He claimed Israel is aiming to “remove Hamas” in Gaza, before handing the territory to “civilian governance that is not Hamas, and not anyone advocating the destruction of Israel.”

It is my opinion that control of Gaza will ultimately be given to the Palestinian Authority as part of a comprehensive Middle East peace agreement.

But for now the war in the Middle East continues, and we are being warned of the possibility of a “renewed military confrontation” between Israel and Iran…

U.S. threats and Iran’s hardened stance in nuclear negotiations increase the risks for a renewed military confrontation in the region. Iran and European countries are at odds over the soon expiring 2015 nuclear deal and Tehran’s restriction of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) from accessing key nuclear sites.

Iran is vowing a severe response to any renewed attacks by Israel or the U.S. and is demanding guarantees before engaging with Washington, along with financial compensation for damage to key nuclear facilities caused by bombings.

On top of everything else, we will want to keep a very close eye on China.

During the past three years, the Chinese have “conducted numerous military drills and exercises simulating blockades of the island of Taiwan”…

Since 2022, China has conducted numerous military drills and exercises simulating blockades of the island of Taiwan, a democracy of 23 million that sits astride one of the world’s maritime chokepoints. What would happen if China initiated a blockade of Taiwan in the coming years? To understand the military challenges in countering a blockade, CSIS ran 26 wargames using a wide variety of scenarios.

Although China could inflict serious hardships, particularly by targeting Taiwan’s energy sector, this wouldn’t be a low-risk, low-cost option for Beijing. Any blockade creates escalatory pressures that are difficult to contain and could lead to a large-scale war.

The Chinese keep practicing exactly what they plan to do.

According to the Wall Street Journal, China is now “more ready than ever” to initiate a full blockade…

China’s armed forces are more ready than ever to surround the self-ruled island of Taiwan, cut it off from the world and try to squeeze it into submission.

A Chinese blockade of Taiwan would be an act of war that sparks a global crisis.

Most Americans do not realize this, but the moment that China pulls the trigger on a blockade of Taiwan we will be in a state of war with the Chinese.

President Trump would be under tremendous pressure to take strong military action, because Taiwan would run out of natural gas “in about 10 days”

Taiwan would run out of natural gas supplies in about 10 days if Beijing blockaded the island, according to a report published by a Washington-based geopolitical think tank.

When Austria-Hungary declared war on Serbia in 1914, most Americans had no idea that World War I had begun.

And when Germany invaded Poland in 1939, most Americans had no idea that World War II had begun.

Now we are several years into World War III, and the most chaotic chapters of it are still yet to come.

But a lot of people out there are entirely convinced that everything is going to work out just fine somehow.

Let us hope that they are correct, because right now we are standing on the precipice of the unthinkable.

Apocalypse Now: The Increasing Instability Of Our Planet Is On Full Display In 2025

Once dormant volcanoes have been erupting all over the globe, Mt. Rainier has been rattled by more than 1,000 earthquakes this month, one area of Japan has been getting hit by thousands of earthquakes, the largest supervolcano in Europe has been shaking like crazy, and a magnitude 8.8 earthquake just hammered the Kamchatka Peninsula in Russia.  There have only been five earthquakes that have ever been recorded that have been larger than the earthquake that we witnessed on Tuesday.  2025 has been “the year of the disaster”, and we just keep getting hit by one thing after another.  For a long time I have been warning that our planet is becoming increasingly unstable, and finally a lot of people out there are starting to understand.

The shaking that we are experiencing is not normal.

We really are living in apocalyptic times.

And yes, things are going to get a lot worse.

I believe that we should regard the magnitude 8.8 earthquake that just occurred as a warning.  It sent tsunami waves all over the Pacific, but fortunately those tsunami waves did not do that much damage

One of the strongest earthquakes ever recorded struck Russia’s Far East early Wednesday, sending tsunami waves into Japan and Hawaii and across the Pacific. No substantial damage has been reported so far, but authorities warned people away from shorelines and said the risk could last more than a day.

Ports on the Kamchatka Peninsula in Russia near the 8.8 magnitude quake’s epicenter flooded as residents fled inland, and frothy, white waves washed up to the shore in northern Japan. Cars jammed streets and highways in Hawaii’s capital, with standstill traffic even in areas away from the shoreline.

It could have been so much worse.

Once the earthquake struck, people living in Hawaii were scrambling to get to higher ground.

Thankfully, the tsunami waves that hit Hawaii were only a few feet high, and the tsunami waves that hit the west coast were not much of a problem at all

The first tsunami waves hit Hawaii at 8.20pm local time, 2.20am EST. Water levels were above 4 feet in Haleiwa on Oahu’s north shore, reaching 5 feet just minutes later and causing floods.

Oahu Emergency Management warned residents: ‘Tsunami waves are currently impacting Hawaii. Take action NOW!’

In California, the first waves hit the coast at Crescent City near the Oregon border just after midnight local time, while tsunami waves hit Washington state not long after.

But the fact that we were just hit by a magnitude 8.8 earthquake is a really big deal.

It was the largest earthquake anywhere in the world since the magnitude 9.1 earthquake that caused the giant tsunami that absolutely devastated Fukushima back in 2011

Wednesday’s earthquake was the sixth most powerful on record, and the strongest in Kamchatka region since 1952, with aftershocks of up to 7.5 magnitude expected.

It is the largest earthquake globally since 2011, when a 9.1 megaquake hit northeast Japan and left 19,747 people either dead or missing.

Dozens of very large aftershocks shook the Kamchatka Peninsula following the initial magnitude 8.8 earthquake, and the biggest active volcano in the northern hemisphere began spewing lava

The Klyuchevskoy volcano on Russia’s Kamchatka peninsula began erupting on Wednesday following a powerful earthquake off Russia’s far eastern coast.

Lava began flowing from what is the largest active volcano in the northern hemisphere. The Russian Academy of Sciences’ United Geophysical Service said in a post on Telegram: “A descent of burning hot lava is observed on the western slope. Powerful glow above the volcano, explosions.”

According to Volcano Discovery, 41 volcanoes around the world are currently erupting right now.

But don’t worry.

The “experts” are telling us that everything is fine.

You believe them, don’t you?

The magnitude 8.8 earthquake that we just witnessed happened on a “megathrust fault”

The 8.8 magnitude quake off Russia that triggered tsunami warnings across the Pacific occurred on what is known as a “megathrust fault”, where the denser Pacific Plate is sliding underneath the lighter North American Plate, scientists said.

The Pacific Plate has been on the move, making the Kamchatka Peninsula area off Russia’s Far East coast where it struck especially vulnerable to such tremors – and bigger aftershocks cannot be ruled out, they said.

Of course there is a “megathrust fault” just off the west coast of the United States too.

It is called “the Cascadia Subduction Zone”, and it is a ticking time bomb…

The Kamchatka Peninsula earthquake may not have brought the same devastation as previous shocks, but a far more deadly seismic event is looming for the US West Coast.

A major 600-mile-long fault line known as the Cascadia Subduction Zone runs from northern Vancouver Island in Canada to Cape Mendocino in northern California.

It is just a matter of time before a giant earthquake happens along the Cascadia Subduction Zone, and a recent study determined that a large enough quake “could cause coastal land to sink 6.5 feet within minutes”

A study from Virginia Tech in April showed an earthquake of force eight or above could cause coastal land to sink 6.5 feet within minutes, devastating cities such as Seattle and Portland and flooding hundreds of miles of roadway, airports, schools, hospitals and power plants.

Researchers determined that the most severe effects would hit densely populated areas in northern California, southern Washington and northern Oregon.

Not too far from the Cascadia Subduction Zone is the most dangerous volcano in North America.

A full-blown eruption of Mt. Rainier would cause tremendous death and destruction, and this month it has been shaken by more than 1,000 earthquakes

Over 1,000 earthquakes have rocked Washington’s Mount Rainier in the largest ever seismic swarm recorded at this active volcano, waiting to erupt.

Experts from the US Geological Survey (USGS) revealed that this record-breaking earthquake swarm started on July 8 and has continued ever since.

As of July 25, geologists have recorded at least 1,010 small earthquakes around the mountain, which is one of the most dangerous volcanoes in the US.

If you live near Mt. Rainier, these earthquakes are your warning.

It is capable of unleashing enormous tsunamis of super-heated mud that travel at speeds of up to 50 miles per hour, and those that currently live in homes that were constructed directly on top of old deposits of super-heated mud from Mt. Rainier would have very little time to escape.

Meanwhile, scientists are now telling us that there is “something large moving deep beneath New England”

There’s something large moving deep beneath New England.

This is the conclusion of a new paper by researchers from the University of Southampton, England, who have been studying a mysterious patch of unusually hot rock below the Appalachian Mountains.

This region—known as the Northern Appalachian Anomaly (NAA)—is some 200 miles wide and lies around 125 miles beneath the surface.

I never considered New England to be a high risk area.

But apparently researchers have discovered a “huge, slow-moving blob of hot material” directly underneath the region…

Imagine taking a CT scan of the Earth. That’s essentially what geologists did using seismic tomography, a technique that tracks how earthquake waves travel through different layers of the planet. What they found under New Hampshire was a huge, slow-moving blob of hot material.

This kind of anomaly is typically seen near volcanoes or tectonic boundaries—but New England has neither.

So why am I sharing all of this?

I am sharing all of this to warn the world about what is coming.

The shaking that we are experiencing is not normal.

We really are living in apocalyptic times.

And yes, things are going to get a lot worse.

Something REALLY BIG Just Happened At The UN, And It Appears That “The New York Declaration” Could Potentially Change Everything

The mainstream media mostly ignored what occurred at the UN this week, but it is a monster story.  We are literally witnessing the biggest international push for recognition of a Palestinian state that we have ever witnessed.  The “International Conference for the Peaceful Settlement of the Question of Palestine and the Implementation of the Two-State Solution” ended on Wednesday, and it produced a blueprint for peace in the Middle East called “the New York Declaration”.  The following information about “the New York Declaration” comes from the official UN website

The High-level International Conference for the Peaceful Settlement of the Question of Palestine and the Implementation of the Two-State Solution took place in New York from 28 to 30 July.

The United States and Israel did not participate.

France and Saudi Arabia, co-chairs of the conference, called on all UN Member States to support a declaration urging collective action to end the war in Gaza and to achieve a just, peaceful and lasting settlement of the Israeli-Palestinian conflict.

The New York Declaration on the Peaceful Settlement of the Question of Palestine and the Implementation of the Two-State Solution outlines political, humanitarian and security steps to be taken on a timebound and irreversible basis.

The co-chairs urged countries to endorse the declaration by the end of the 79th session of the General Assembly, in early September, should they so wish.

Ending the war in Gaza is just the first step in the plan.

Once that occurs, the goal is to transfer control of Gaza to the Palestinian Authority and then have as many nations as possible officially recognize a Palestinian state.

The following is how a user on X known as “Maranatha777” summarized the plan

????After two intense days, the UN Conference on Palestine produced the “New York Declaration” — a concrete, phased roadmap to establish an independent, demilitarized Palestinian state alongside Israel.

???? WHAT IS THE NEW YORK DECLARATION?

????????A 7-page, action-driven blueprint co-authored by France and Saudi Arabia—the conference hosts—and backed by over 90 nations, including the Arab League, EU, and dozens of other UN member states.

???????? Contains time-bound, enforceable steps to pressure both Israel and Hamas into a final agreement.

???????? Is strategically timed to push through KEY DECISIONS at the 80th UN General Assembly this September (2025).

???? YES—IT’S DESIGNED FOR ACTION, NOT JUST TALK:

???????? 8 implementation groups have been established—focused on security, governance, hostage release, reconstruction of Gaza, and more.

???????? Urges global recognition of a demilitarized Palestinian state by or during the September UNGA session.

This is huge.

For more than a decade, I have been writing about the Palestinian state that is coming.  I wrote about it in my new book, and I wrote about it in many of my other books.  This is literally one of the biggest events that we have been waiting for all these years.

Prior to the conference in New York, on July 25th French President Emmanuel Macron announced that his nation would formally recognize a Palestinian state at the United Nations General Assembly in September

French President Emmanuel Macron announced Thursday that France will recognize Palestine as a state, amid snowballing global anger over people starving in Gaza.

Macron said in a post on X that he will formalize the decision at the United Nations General Assembly in September. “The urgent thing today is that the war in Gaza stops and the civilian population is saved,” he posted.

The French president offered support for Israel after the Oct. 7, 2023, Hamas terrorist attack on Israel and frequently speaks out against antisemitism, but he has grown increasingly frustrated about Israel’s war in Gaza, especially in recent months.

That announcement sent shockwaves all over the globe.

Then on July 29th, British Prime Minister Keir Starmer announced that his nation would also formally recognize a Palestinian state at the United Nations General Assembly in September unless Israel took “substantive steps” to change the situation in Gaza…

The United Kingdom will recognize Palestine as a state in September unless Israel takes “substantive steps” to end the “appalling situation in Gaza,” British Prime Minister Keir Starmer said Tuesday.

Addressing reporters at Downing Street, the prime minister said the U.K. will recognize Palestine as a state at the United Nations General Assembly in September unless Israel takes a number of steps — including the establishment of a ceasefire in Gaza, a commitment to halting the annexation of territory in the West Bank, and a pledge to work toward a peace process involving a two-state solution.

“Meanwhile, our message to the terrorists of Hamas is unchanged and unequivocal. They must immediately release all of the hostages, sign up to a ceasefire, disarm and accept that they will play no part in the government of Gaza,” Starmer added.

Also on July 29th, 15 nations issued a joint statement calling for international recognition of a Palestinian state…

Fifteen countries have joined the growing push to recognize Palestinian statehood. Their calls echo the position of nations such as Russia that already recognize Palestine and view a two-state solution as the only way to end the Gaza war.

In a joint statement issued late Tuesday following a conference in New York, the foreign ministers of Andorra, Australia, Canada, Finland, France, Iceland, Ireland, Luxembourg, Malta, New Zealand, Norway, Portugal, San Marino, Slovenia, and Spain, urged global recognition of Palestine and an immediate ceasefire in Gaza.

“We… have already recognized, have expressed or express the willingness or the positive consideration of our countries to recognize the State of Palestine, as an essential step towards the two-state solution,” the ministers said, while also calling for the release of all hostages held by Hamas.

Subsequently, on July 30th Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney indicated that his nation is ready to formally recognize a Palestinian state at the United Nations General Assembly in September…

Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney said Canada will recognize Palestine as a state in September at the United Nations General Assembly, following similar announcements from the United Kingdom and France.

“The deepening suffering of civilians leaves no room for delay in co-ordinated international action to support peace, security, and the dignity of all human life,” Carney said in a statement Wednesday.

The Trump administration was not pleased by Carney’s announcement at all.

White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt has explained that President Trump believes that international recognition of a Palestinian state before the war has concluded would be “rewarding Hamas”

Press secretary Karoline Leavitt notes, emphatically, that the president disagrees with the leaders of the UK, France, and Canada and their decision to recognise Palestinian statehood if Israel fails to agree to a ceasefire in the coming months.

“He feels as though that’s rewarding Hamas at a time where Hamas is the true impediment to a cease fire into the release of all of the hostages,” she said.

But once the war is over, the Trump administration is very open to making recognition of a Palestinian state part of a comprehensive Middle East peace deal.  President Trump intends to expand the Abraham Accords to include Saudi Arabia, and he knows that Saudi Arabia will not join the Abraham Accords without “a credible path to Palestinian statehood”

Saudi Arabia has made it clear: There will be no expansion of the Abraham Accords and no normalization with Israel without a credible path to Palestinian statehood. Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman, now the most influential voice in the Arab world, has drawn a line.

The rules of the game have changed. Without addressing Palestinian statehood head-on, no serious peace can be achieved.

I realize that I have thrown a ton of information at you in this article.

The bottom line is that a Palestinian state is coming.

And once we get to that point, everything will change.
